Everyone here is mini mini mini, but the mini didn't sell well.
When people like something they can have a hard to understand/accept many others might not share their viewpoint. Mini phones don’t sell enough, and Apple has tried, so they’ll offer something their research says has broader appeal.
This is along the same lines pertaining to why Apple has dropped the 27in. iMac—Apple doesn’t thinks it’s worthwhile anymore.
Funny, but I have an iPhone 14 base model I picked up in August. It is a bit smaller physically than my previous iPhone 8+ but the 14’s screen is about 5% larger in area. So it fits easier in my pocket and I even gained a bit in screen size.
And that the problem, they want to sell more expensive phone. Of coarse a $429 iPhone mini would sell well, and it would cannibalize higher end sales. At SE price, and without competing against the existing SEs as compact phones, it would likely sell quite well.
You can buy separate lcd or oled panels from various companies and have it shipped super fast. Not sure what you want to do with them, but if it's all you care about. If it suits you Sir 😉 oh Sir, you like this OLED, oh, suits you. 🤪LCD or OLED. That is pretty much all I care about.
The mini didn’t, because of name and price point. But the SE2 outsold even the flagship Samsung Galaxy the year it was released. Even more than the Pro iPhone 11’s, if I remember right it was second only to the flagship iPhone 11 at the time…it sold something like 22 million units that year alone…
People don't blame the Mac mini or iPad mini for its name. Those products certainly survived. Why does iPhone 12/13 mini get to use that excuse?
For price, Apple has always used $100 increments for larger and smaller devices. Again, why does iPhone mini get to use that excuse?
Id much rather have a notch than a floating gap or hole. Its what puts me off current android phones. The holes annoy me way more than a notch.2025?
I suppose an SE4 with a 14 chassis, will look ‘old’ with it’s notch.
I think rumours have the iPhone 16 with a smaller dynamic island.
And the iPhone 17 will lose the dynamic island and have a dot.
For only an extra $100, the much larger screen and “premium” features made it almost a no brainer for most consumers. If it were $200, $250 cheaper than the ‘flagship’, then you have a real decision to weigh. IMO
My hopes so too. But reality is all about business.I wondered if maybe it would use the now-abandoned 13 mini chassis, just because it seemed like it would be cheaper than re-engineering the iPhone 14 design to only have a single camera 🤔
What do you mean? The mini had two cameras too.I wondered if maybe it would use the now-abandoned 13 mini chassis, just because it seemed like it would be cheaper than re-engineering the iPhone 14 design to only have a single camera 🤔
Nope, it didn't sell well compared to their other iPhones. However up for debate is WHY it didn't sell well. Some jump to the conclusion that it is "people just don't want smaller iPhones" when I think it is more of "people didn't want that particular smaller iPhone with those features (not pro, reduced battery life) at that price (only $100 less)". And even that is an over simplification.Everyone here is mini mini mini, but the mini didn't sell well.
Yes, the 4.7" SE used n-1. I think for the SE 4, whatever chip is in volume production at the time to cut costs?Sounds like a great feature mix of what most people want. The 48MP sensor allows for optical 2X. Everyone is comfortable with the 6.1-inch form factor by now.
This should be a good workhorse phone. The only concern would be processor. In the past, SE used A-series based on n-1. Now that regular iPhones use n-1, will the SE4 use n-2? If this launches Spring 2025, it might carry A16.
