Amen to all that. I still use my original SE, and I'm an iOS software developer. I will never use Face ID because it's a cumbersome PITA. I'll enter a security code first.

OG SE is what I use - and I get constant "oh wow, what a cool small phone" comments about it.

BUT OH NOES NOT A BEZEL!!!!! :(

Personally, I think Apple's designers are traumatised by all the Apple blogaratti complaining about LG's thunderbolt display having a large forehead, so they're obsessively making the bezels equal for top & sides, hence the notch on Macbooks.

Same! At least, depending on how cool the commenter is. It's kind of a social test, actually, with dipshìts or ditzes usually saying something ignorant and/or douchey about it.

Even a TSA guy at LAX said "wow, haven't seen one of those phones in a minute!" And that guy sees how many thousands of phones a day or week!

I should pull out my (even-smaller) iPhone 4 and use that for a while, and see how many people freak out over it.

All phones these days look exactly the same. I have walked through the phones section at several different retailers over the past years, and without a label next to each one describing what it is, I couldn't tell any of them apart. Not only is the market beyond saturated, it is incredibly boring. Let someone be brave and install a keyboard on these things, or a giant battery and an awesome CPU that can play real games and not the ****** mobile games we're constantly stuck with - and I mean ON the device, not some fake cloud stuff.

I’ve owned an iPhone since iPhone 3gs. I now own a iPhone SE 2. If these rumors are true, and SE 4 takes the size of iPhone XR, my last iPhone will probably be iPhone 13 mini.

In my mind, phones that needs two hands for operation are the stupidest thing that the tech world has created and sold in mass. Sorry, but it’s just dumb.

The press and others used to make fun of huge phones being bent while carried in the back pocket. Now people can’t get enough of them. Many can’t even get the phones in their front pockets because of huge plastic ad-ons coupled to the back of the gigantic phones just to let them get a safe grip. The phones are themselves are then carried in a bag.

I’ve been a huge fan of Apple since 2005, and iPhones has been my favorite Apple product. The size was chosen because of how it was supposed to be used, with and without a home button (rushed to be used in iPhone 5, because of bigger batteries/phones from the competitors). Now it has been turned into a heavy phablet that doesn’t do a good job of being either.

It was fun as long as it lasted.
Although they are still called "phones" they are rarely used as such anymore. People (especially Zoomers) communicate via video now and the larger screen meets this need.

Most people I see communicating on iPhones are holding them out in front of their faces, flat with the screen pointing directly upwards, and talking towards the bottom or top edge of the phone, like it's a chocolate bar, or whistle they're about to put in their mouth.

because apparently that looks less mad than just walking along using a wired, or bluetooth headset and speaking with the phone in your pocket.

Hahaha, absolutely! This is exactly how I perceive this stupidity: holding the phone in front of themselves like a sandwich and yelling at it. That's how pathetic the human race is now, when people don't even understand how to use a phone. People had this nailed 100 years ago, but today you see this retarded behavior.

I believe it is a fad adopted from celebrities

If samsung re-released the Galaxy Camera from 2012 with 21x optical zoom (optical through the full zoom range), running the latest android with all of their computational photography software, it would be one of the best selling phones. They just need to update the design and profile to look more like the sony cybershot W830.

With a case, my iPhone 15 is bigger and heavier than the cybershot. If i could have a larger sensor with up to 21x mechanical, optical zoom, i would change in a second. I'd even consider switching to android for it.

iPhone SE in the Midnight Edition would be stellar. But I know I’m asking for too much. I think Apple will stick to extremely bright candy colors. They are eye-catching.
I have that version of the SE 3, and love it and its form factor. I’m keeping this phone for as long as possible, because for one thing, I don’t want a big hulking phone to carry around, and another, Face ID, no thank you!
When it comes to cell phones, does size, by which I mean bigger, really matter? To me, not at all. The 5S and original SE were perfectly sized, and since the 3rd generation is the last of its kind, I’m hoping to have it for many years to come!

Yeah the OG SE was a solid phone. Unfortunately, my speakers are not working on mine and the battery does NOT want to be replaced (good ol snapped pull-tape) and it is permanently attached to one of those giant and heavy power cases, so the small and cute stuff is wasted.

Reached a point that I don't care about details. Just get it out here and I'll buy it!! If it doesn't give me headaches I'll get used to anything else. Would like to have no home button and the new gestures somewhere around an 11 size, but at this point I'll take anything that doesn't hurt!!!

I'll have to ask again since I recently purchased an iPhone 13 from BB and i'm in the return window. Based on the rumors, is there any indication that the SE 4 will include a Sim tray?

This thing is hugely upsetting now.

Wife has TINY TINY hands and loves her iPhone 12.
No 15 Mini for her, presumably no 16 Mini.

Was hoping the SE4 might come close, but it's as big as a 14.

I do roll a spare iPHone as a spare but it's not too enticing to be honest 2025 just to get lightning out of the house.
Crazy

I dont think the cycle is 2 yrs with phones breaking a thousand dollars its closer to 5yrs now

New iPhones have been "pricey" for some time. Looking back at the U.S. starting prices of iPhones (excluding SE models, previous year models, carrier incentives tied to plan commitments, etc.) and adjusting for inflation:

iPhone 3G - $855
iPhone 3GS - $875
iPhone 4 - $929
iPhone 4S - $893
iPhone 5 - $880
iPhone 5C - $733
iPhone 6 - $852
iPhone 6S - $851
iPhone 7 - $842
iPhone 8 - $889
iPhone XR - $927
iPhone 11 - $851
iPhone 12 mini - $875
iPhone 13 mini - $832
iPhone 14 - $874
iPhone 15 - Currently available for $829

The iPhone 15 starting price is lower than the inflation adjusted price of other iPhone except for the 5C. Yes, Apple introduced the higher end Pro level line with greater capabilities but no one is forced to go with a Pro model. The starting price of the iPhone 15 Pro ($999) is over $200 less than what the inflation adjusting starting price of the original (iPhone 11) Pro model was in 2019.

Also, a much more active resale/trade-in market (compared to early years) has helped a bit to offset even new Pro level iPhone prices. Carrier plan prices are cheaper than they used to be which also helps to bring down overall smartphone costs.

"Inflation", right. Because wages have also tripled in the last 15 years or something?

Tripled? Where are you getting that from? The U.S. no commitment starting (16GB) retail price of a new iPhone 3GS in 2009 was $599. My inflation adjusted number was $875 which is nowhere near triple $599.

Just saw on the news that Apple introduced a new iPad line to improve slumping sales. What would really reduce slumping sales is introduce an iPhone that didn't give their customers damn headaches!!!

Notch with Face ID will be more costly and I still believe that Apple will integrate Touch ID with Power button like IPad Air! the whole purpose with iPhone SE is to be able to compete with Google pixel and other android phones!

...and with that, Apple condemned the concept of lightweight iPhones to an eternal grave.
I guarantee the SE 4 will weigh over 170 grams, mini 13 will disappear from Apple's site, and Apple will never try small-and-light again, due to poor sales of the delightful iPhone mini series.

I guess I'll just have to get used to having a clunky boat anchor in my pocket.
