I'm unlikely to notice Pro-Motion unless I have two phones side-by-side.

I would have upgraded from my 11 to the 16 if it had AOD though (which comes with pro-motion). It didn't - I didn't want to splash out on the 16 Pro - so am keeping my 11 for another year.

Next year ... if the SE has AOD, I'lkl buy it. If it doesn't (which is very likely!) but the base 17 does, then I'll have to do some research and pick one. However, if the SE *and* the base 17 don't have AOD then I'll probably buy the SE. Or the 16 Pro on sale (as currently the 15 Pro and base 16 are both the same price in some shops here).

Promotion sure riles people up! I have a SE 2023 work-issued phone, and moving back and forth from my 16 Pro doesn't bother me in the slightest. I can easily see the refresh difference, but just don't care.

As for AOD on the iPhone...I don't get the interest in that one at all and turned it off on my 16 Pro after a couple weeks. Maybe others use their phone differently...

it starts getting embarrassing when even the flagship base model doesn't have it but very cheap, basic androids have 90+ refresh rates.
Sure they have
refresh rates.

1. They also launch on completely outdated android versions. The fact that new android phones are launching with android 13 or 14 yet 15 is the most current one.

2. They likely won’t ever be updated

3. They have extremely slower procsssors and performance

4. Crap cameras.

If the only con these iPhones has is a lower refresh rate which in the grand scheme of things isn’t a huge deal for most I’ll take it.

I'm my experience, it's a popular corporate phone, so the many of them. It doesn't mean they care, though.
Yeah they were giving out SE at my law firm I was at for those not in the apple ecosystem so we could all be unified under mac and iOS.

I got one even though I had a 14 and I winded up giving it to my brother(se 2)

It's quite rare, but occasionally when travelling I'd like to use my phone as an alarm clock.

Currently, when doing that on my iPhone 11 I have to tap the screen to turn the standby-node display on for 20 seconds or so.

Higher prices do not mean higher margins, margin is based on price and cost, and a $400 device could have a higher margin than a $1000 one. One example of that is from a home party sales model company, where one of the highest margin products was the cheapest, something they did because people would feel obligated to buy at least something and would get the cheapest product, and thus make the highest contribution to margin.
You're right, especially because a margin is often expressed in %.
I meant to say more money in absolute dollar and not in %.

I'm 100% positive the Pro Models bring much more money to the bank than the SE, especially people who upgrade the storage.

Know anything about it? Very few. Would appreciate it even if they don’t realize what it is? More.

I do see your point but even the lowest of low end Android phones have 90Hz displays now.
Who cares outside of a tech forum? LOL!

My Pixel ask for a pardon. Samsung just came out said they are doing 6 years of Android support, even with their galaxy A-line budget phones.

I get you don’t like Android, that’s fine. But at least get some correct information and don’t blanket every Android phone.

This iPhone SE should have come to market years ago. To this point it probably won’t convert any switchers I guess. Because most midrange androids already have better specs for years.

And it will continue to be 60Hz for a long time. This is a budget device, the iPhone 16 doesn’t even have anything better.
Budget device??? Have you ever looked at what other brands are offering for years? Seems like the gap is widening every year and now it’s starting making Apple phones laughable.

I think everyone knows your endless disdain for android, even if it's misplaced but shoveling misinformation isn't productive.

Putting 120 hz on the SE would be a slap in the face to the iPhone 16 buyers who paid alot more 6 months earlier. The 17 would be the better phone tier to bring on 120 hz. Then, the SE 5 will almost certainly get it in 3 years or so.

Screen refresh isn't currently, nor has it ever been, a decision or factor in what device I buy. Same for the few Android users I know.

My wife uses a Pixel 8 and didn't even have high refresh turned on until I showed it to her, six months after she bought it. She doesn't care either way. My work-issued Se is 60, and my personal phone is 120hz... I can't see the difference, and just don't care.

I hear people complaining about 60Hz screens. 60Hz screen refresh rate would not bother me at all, in fact, I prefer it over 120Hz Pro motion. I have compared scrolling on my 15 Plus to other people's Pro phones that are using 120Hz and to me the 60Hz actually looks smoother while scrolling. The 120Hz almost gives me motion sickness and eye strain from how much the screen stutters when scrolling. I have a Macbook Pro that has Pro Motion and it bothered my eyes so much I changed it to 60Hz and everything looks smoother and no more eye strain.

"But but but there are $150 Android phones with 120Hz refresh rates! Come on, Apple!"

I have an Android phone with a 120Hz refresh rate. I never, ever, not once, have thought "gee I wish my iPhone SE looked like this." I bought it because I heard it had a really nice screen, and I wanted to play in the Android ecosystem too. The screen is fine. The OS and the rest of the experience are janky with lots of features but poorly implemented.

I think the vast majority of smartphone shoppers would be more interested in seeing an ad from their carrier that says "It's the latest and least expensive iPhone" than they are "Android phone, 120Hz refresh rate."

Yes of course there are huge markets for both inexpensive Androids and iPhones. Each has tradeoffs and I'm willing to have a phone with a "lesser" feature specification that I don't notice in order to have a phone that's so much better to use, right out of the box.

The reality is this new SE will be plenty enough spec wise for probably 95% of smartphone users.
