I just hope this is a wake up call to Apple that not everyone wants a giant mobile phone, and when the 7 is released they will have 3 sizes available.
For the 7S maybe, but definitely not already for the 7: Apple certainly wouldn't want to anger the buyers of the SE by releasing an even better 4" phone less than six months later.

Today was the launch day in Latvia, so i've got myself a 64gb Space Gray to replace 6

I'm so happy I got mine (SIM-free, gold 64GB) on launch day when my local apple store had a decent selection. The apple rep told me they had all sizes, colors, and carriers available. Now, they only have a limited selection of the 16GB model.

I heard the iPhone 6S/Plus only sold around 600K phones. I don't know how true that is, though. I barely see anyone with iPhones nowadays.

Where are you looking? Your house?

Well the official statements from Apple, a publicly traded company, as well as data from suppliers says different. Just stop.

I think these are the sales numbers for Luxembourg. Every adult bought two iPhones.

I just went to the Verizon Wireless Website to look at the smartphones they are selling. When you see all the phones together the price point of the SE really gets highlighted. There is just nothing out there that is comparable at its price point. You are looking at things like the Galaxy S5 which are on sale for $150 more! You want something in the ballpark on price and you are looking at an LG G4, which is a year old. No comparison to the power of the A9 chip. You could also buy a Droid. But I don't think anyone does that.

Basically, I suspect the iPhone SE is going to pick up the folks who just go to buy a phone when their current phone breaks. Because if you don't care too much about your smartphone and you walk into any store selling phones and start looking around, the sales guy is going to point out this iPhone which is more powerful than anything in the store selling for under $600. That buyer might be buying their first iPhone because it has finally come down to the kind of price they want to pay.

Oh please, Apple is purposely doing this. They do this EVERY year a iPhone comes out. They only sale around 500K every year, but claim they sale millions. Give me a break!

Yeah! They *sale* just 9 iPhone 6S+ total

The only person that's clueless here is you. The SE is hot. Apple wouldn't play those tricks because they need to move ever increasing amount of phones in order to make wall street happy. You can't exactly front or back load the supply due to the fact that it actually takes humans to put it together. They need to sell as many as they can make everyday in order to meet their numbers.
Everyone on this forum is a fricken' financial genius it seems, not to mention knows inside-and-out the inner working of how Apple operates. Armchair millionaires.

Spare me...you don't know anything more than anyone else who is speculating...for all you know, Apple is playing the game of fake shortages. No one knows and no one ever will.

LOL sure it is. Apple's sad attempt to make it look like demand is high after stories ran about it not selling well. And of course it isn't selling well. There aren't enough clueless people in existence to make a 4 inch 400 dollar phone a success.

So I'm clueless for saving myself $250 to upgrade my 5S to an SE with virtually the same spec as the 6S, in a design and size I prefer?

You're going to need to explain how that works...

My anecdotal experience - my nearest store (Birmingham, UK), was showing as Ships to Store most of the time. Had pickups available yesterday morning so went down and got a 64GB SE for £304 after my £135 trade in for my 5S.

While I was there getting set up there was a steady stream (10-12) others all getting an SE. Interestingly at least three of which were coming to the SE from a 6/6S/+.

I don't think Apple expected this to be a hot seller right out of the gate, but more of a slow and steady seller. However, between the people holding out with an older 3.5-4" iPhone, the people who did upgrade to a 6 or 6s but never felt comfortable with the larger size, the largely positive reviews and great price I think Apple may have slightly underestimated the initial demand. I'm sure the supply will catch up with demand within a few weeks though.

I think that all makes a heap of sense. I was probably going to upgrade my 5S in September, but the SE with the spec it has, minimal sacrifices, and lower cost just made it a no brainier for me.

If that is the case, I am totally going for it. Just need to tolerate the 6s for a year and a half.

I recently just sold my iPhone 6+ and bought a gently used iPhone 4S. It was trippy going back down to 3.5" but it does all I need a phone to do. The 4S was and still is my all-time favourite form factor for the iPhone.

I really liked the 4" form factor personally, but I don't mind the 4.7" of the 6/6s. I have zero interest in "plus" size, and wish they'd work on putting more battery and/or more features in the existing form factor than constantly slimming it down. For instance, the dual camera that is rumored for just the 7 plus would be REALLY nice to have in a 7 form factor. But either way I'm probably going for a 7 at some point... My wife and I have tried to be alternating upgrades, but somehow we got it now to the point where both of us are ready to upgrade this year :-(

I'm not sure about some of our esteemed Professors Emeritus of Marketing and Business that have just come out of the closet on the forum here.

Personally, I'm thinking about trading my old 5S and getting an SE as a backup phone, since that 5S is probably going to be losing value pretty quickly in the coming months, and I'm not sure how well it'll work after sitting in a box for so long.

Wow, people said that it wasn't doing well....
shhhhh, stop contradicting the previous story about it not selling!

I am actually shocked this is just now news since it has not been available in most places since launch day.
Lol by your logic Apple could have only produce five iPhone SE phones and the fact that they have limited supply of a five run production is Amazing!!!!1 and something only Apple could do!

LOL you people crack me up

My 64GB Grey one just arrived :)

I ordered 6 hours after pre-orders went live.

I'll wait until lunch to play with it.

Put your tinfoil hat on, and say something something about "Apple supply conspiracy to make demand look better than it is" because obviously the primary business of phone maker is not to move as many phones as it can.

BTW non-official resellers in Singapore are mostly sold out of the SE too.

Yup, sell it ASAP when you can, just like my old Note 3 that has been out of warranty for a year and repair costs rapidly approaches the resale price, and before more people find out the concept that skimping to buy a used much slower 5S for about half the price of brand new SE while the latter is going to hold it's value much longer while also enjoying the much faster speed is a pretty stupid "penny-wise, pound foolish" idea.

Except that it couldn't possibly be that Apple only produced five iPhone SEs.

Apart from that, yeah, it could have been exactly that.

We are going off the idea that maybe they had at least 6 phones made ready to sell to people. The 5 phones wasn't the logic I was really going with.

-> Apple release a new product
-> Apple sells the product as fast as they can physically make and ship them.
-> Global sales are in the gazillions...

- MacRumors readers who like or buy the product: "wow, incredible success. Selling out of stock everywhere"
- MacRumors readers who don't like/want the product: "wow, total failure. Apple faking demand by under-supplying"

-> Apple announce sales figures

- MacRumors readers who like or buy the product: "wow, a gazillion sales.. that's incredible."
- MacRumors readers who don't like/want the product: "wow, total failure. Well below expectation of 2 gazillion sales"

-> Apple enjoy their gazillions of dollars profits.

...and repeat.
