Nothing is known for sure at this stage, that’s the only fact we have.

When you compare all the cameras, they are all different in terms of features.

They’re also all the same size from 6s to 11 Pro in terms of being a 12 mega pixel camera. It’s the other stuff that’s important.

The Pixel camera that is so well liked, also only has a 12 megapixel camera (f1.8), it’s the processing and computational algorithms that make the difference in modern camera tech on smartphones. Lens at this stage isn’t that important which is where to many are thinking the camera on this will just be like the 8. It won’t, Apple have already said its their best single camera on any iPhone.

And no one on Twitter will know any more for certain than anyone else at this stage.

Need to wait for the tear downs really. People are already confused about the camera specs, either way they should be great!

Wrong. The xr camera was larger than the 8. The se camera is the same size as the 8, that’s confirmed on apples site

Link? Regardless, it's going to be as good if not better.

I'm yet to find anything online that can tell me the exact specs of each camera (XR vs 8), and the differences other than the software and chips powering them.

How about you actually post some of this confirmation? Looks like the XR camera to me.

Exactly, he says that the details are on Apple's website. They aren't. Going by the only reference on the Apple site that you posted - it is closer to the XR and in terms of Smart HDR, it's further improved upon.

Next Gen Smart HDR (same as what the 11 has) is THE most important part that a lot are overlooking I think. It's what makes the Pixel cameras as good as they are, their lenses are nothing special it's all software and computer learning.

Probably using the XR sensor (which is better than the 8’s) and the rest comes from better image signal processing and the neural engine that handles the computational photography.

The way I see this... SE camera is a copy of the XR camera, which is a copy of the 8 camera.

They are all the same cameras.

The difference is Apple turned off or has not added portrait mode to the 8 model (which is typical). And, the processing chips on each of the models has a good factor to how the photos are taken.

Do you only compare Mpix and F-stop ?

XR has larger lens and sensor because is thicker.

So you can have SoC A13, ISP from XR and lenses from 8 :D

Interesting that you can’t link to either to back up that claim. I thought it was repeatedly on the media that we are looking at the lens of the 8 with the Computational photography capabilities of the more modern cpu.

Thank you for actually posting evidence of what you are talking about.

Seems it is the iPhone XR Camera then.
Look at the size of the camera not the spec sheet. It’s 100% the iPhone 8 camera there’s no argument.

The physical size of the glass lens in the exterior of the phone protruding from the body means absolutely nothing.

Look at the Pixel lens, it’s massive but look closer... it’s a normal lens, same as others but designed to give the impression of it being larger. The camera has to be in proportion to the body or would just look weird. Design aesthetics also play a part in how a camera may look on the back of any phone.

Agreed. It's going to be great (I expect), but too many people are just thinking it's the 8 camera, therefor will take the same pictures as the 8 did. Which is wrong.

According to Rene Ritchie, and some other Tech Youtubers, it has the iPhone 8 camera lens (which is perfectly fine by the way) with A13 ISP (imagine signal processor) and therefore, features

Hence portrait mode etc, and also why night mode may not be possible the way Apple has implemented it (with focus pixels, not available on the 8 or XR lens...which is the same as the X and XS main lenses respectively...)

What's wrong with the iPhone 8 camera? Its a fantastic smartphone camera, especially for it's size. It's all about software now a days. People forgot how awesome of a main shooter it was because the iPhone 8 was the fourth iteration of a design and in their mind the "same" as the iPhone 6, yet when the iPhone X came around it took these amazing incredible pictures....but they both have the same main camera...

Look at what Google has done with the Pixels...their sensors are solid but nothing special, yet it takes way, way better pictures than all the Androids with crazy sensors due to software

Some of the critics need to take a look at what the iPhone 6s lens could do, it can still take amazing photos and videos. The iPhone 8 lens is the same main camera in the 8 Plus and iPhone X, both of which were two of the best phones well into 2018 for taking pictures

1) the iPhone 8 lens is fine

2) you want a better lens, get an iPhone 11 but be prepared to spend more. Thats just the way it is.

3) appreciate what the ISP brings.
This is really where the improvements are. This is why the new SE will take amazing pictures.

There is only so much you can do at this price point, and Apple packed in as much value as they could. I think for 399USD vs 599USD for the XR, this is much more of a bargain and better value product today.

I’m watching Apple September event and they said that ip11 has two cameras so make a stereoscopic depth and can take portrait of pets or things. So second camera won’t help if SE can take portrait of things. They lied ? Or ip11 can make a better portraits and using data from ultra-wide ?

EDIT : iphone SE won't get potrait mode for things, pets...

Even if it's a mix between the iPhone 8's camera sensor with a few more modern tweaks, it's still a great deal at $400.

iPhone sensor size has been lagging for years. It wasn't until iPhone XR/XS that the pixel sized moved up to 1.4µm. Many Androids have been using large sensors for years, which is why Pixel can enable Night Sight all the way back to first Pixel (2016).

Just a side note since I see a confusion here.

The glass you see on the outside is the lens cover, not the actual lens. The actual lens and sensor beneath the lens cover can differ.
