My SE arrived on Monday the 4th exactly as promised, amidst terrible weather with five inches of snow, whiteouts, multi-vehicle pileup on the interstate. i had to shovel a 150' path out to the road twice for the UPS guy. My snow plowman long since removed his blade and went back to his summer work (carpentry). Don't think he's framing houses this week, it was 2ºF on Tuesday morning... in April?!?!
Anyway major, major kudos to UPS for not going off the roads while getting here on Monday afternoon. My shoveling a path twice was worth it for both of us, or at least he seemed appreciative: "Compared to what else I walked through today, this was beautiful." So amazing my new SE was in China a couple days before that and showed up here without a hitch in all this weather.
The SE works great with the SIM card from my 5C, all I did was read off the IMEI number to AT&T et voila, functional phone. The 5C still works as WiFi device; it will only whine for awhile about not having a SIM when I upgrade the software.
I don't hear anything rattling when I shake my SE. The display's white is like that of my 5C. Bluetooth works great with a Jambox. I don't have bluetooth in my ancient vehicle, in fact out there i use a 2nd gen iPod nano and an FM transmitter.
The WiFi, lightning connections, sound thru earbuds all work great. The finishing is very fine indeed, it will be a shame to cover it up against my klutz tendencies.
So far since I live in a dead zone, I have no clue if the SE actually works as a phone, although it's recognized as one by iTunes and the phone number shows up properly. I can usually get one bar if I go upstairs and hold a phone up to a windowpane. But tomorrow my driveways will have de-iced themselves so I can drive up on a higher hill and try out the SE's ability to grab a tower and actually phone home.
As usual I acted like an optimist and went ahead and loaded the thing up with music and video and apps after setting it up as a new phone. Only once before did I end up belatedly finding out the phone part of an iPhone was actually DOA. Here's hoping the SE will not be a repeat on that score. Love the thing so far. Having fun with Apple News app which I had not tried before. I'm appreciative of some of the accessibility options for aging eyes!
Now to find a case. I liked my bright yellow 5C case for visibility. Guess I'll try to find something bright green or red, that midnight blue or black leather from Apple doesn't really strike my fancy. I hope whatever 5S gem I pick out for a case actually fits the SE. I see a lot of them claiming to do so on Amazon. Time will tell. With luck we'll be back to real spring weather by time the case ships...
