I would just get an iPhone 11 if I were one of the people interested in a SE Plus. Smaller footprint, larger screen, better features. Obviously you have to pay a little more, but not nearly as much as the 11 Pro.
nope, we want full hd display and lot of us touch id instead of face id...

Does anyone really care about this old kinda phone lol

Yes, people who don’t want to shell out hundreds of extra dollars for a more powerful device that they don’t actually need. Plenty of people’s smartphone needs are more than met by “old” kind of phones. Why pay more for features you don’t use? People don’t buy the most powerful car or most powerful computer unless they actually need it or have lots of spare money. Why shouldn’t they have the same choice when it comes to smartphones?
If all you do is drive around town, you don’t need a Bugatti. If all you use your phone for is web, email and social media, you don’t need the latest and greatest.

Why would Apple re-release the "iPhone 6 Plus" again just get the X, XR, XS MAX, 11, 11 Pros, and whatever large phone I'm missing

I think this rumour might be confused with the next SE. Which will likely have FaceID and effectively be a ‘plus’.

That is just marketing to the features it has.

That doesn’t mean the SE model was built with the idea of being small. Apple has used SE naming for a spec upgrades in old Macintosh computers.

SE was never about being “compact” like the iPod shuffle or iPod Nano where.

Apple may postpone a larger version of the new low-cost iPhone SE until the second half of 2021, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a previous note, Kuo said that Apple was working on an "iPhone SE Plus" set to be released in the first half of 2021, but now he believes Apple will "likely postpone" this new model until later in 2021.

The current iPhone SE
The iPhone SE Plus is expected to have a 5.5 or 6.1-inch display with a full-screen design, similar to the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. It will not use Face ID, though, and will instead feature Touch ID integrated into the power button on the right side of the device.

With no Face ID, the iPhone SE Plus will feature a smaller notch as the front of the device will only need to house a standard front-facing camera, microphone, and speaker.

Apple just this month released the iPhone SE, a $399 iPhone that is similar in design to the iPhone 8 but with an upgraded A13 processor. It marries Touch ID and an older iPhone design with newer iPhone performance and is an appealing upgrade option for those coming from older iPhones like the iPhone 6 or iPhone 7.

Kuo has not provided details on the pricing of the iPhone SE Plus, but if it's in the SE family, it will presumably have a price tag lower than that of Apple's flagship devices despite the full-screen design and relocated Touch ID button.

I think Apple is beginning to lose it again, with so many devices and such weird release schedules of these devices. I mean seriously, it's like deja vu back when Steve returned to the company to clear all the product lines again... Apple really needs to refresh and a clearing out of its product lines, because they are falling in the same trap I am fearing...

We’ve been saying that for years and I don’t think it’s like it seems.

Apple has made some really good products since Steve. Like the iPad line up, most of the latest iPhones, AirPods and Apple Watch.

iPhone however is becoming a bit like Pepsi. We are getting to a point that it’s not really a “new” product like he said. So the marketing people are mostly in control.

se plus - not for me
if 2nd gen se was same size as 1st gen se with gen 2 specs - i would bite
likes 1st gen form factor
fit back pocket on my levis great

Pretty sure Apple has a plan. It is a company that learns from itself. The issue complicating the planning process is the state of world at this time. Makes planning difficult...for everyone.

Make iPhone SE Plus top bezel smaller as possible.
Apple tried hard from iPhone 4-8 to keep iPhone look symmetrical especially front. Than Apple let go symmetry concept when introduced iPhone X with top notch and nothing similar at bottom.
So, Apple can increase the screen towards top side giving more screen in the same iPhone 8 Plus size frame by reducing thick top bezel like most android phone's top part of screen. Bottom can not be reduced because of beloved Touch ID. This could give iPhone SE Plus the new identity. You missed this on 2020 SE, but do it on SE Plus.

Just make an SE with the current screen size without the bezel and home button and the. It would be smaller in size.

They can't just "remove" the top and bottom bezels... there are actually components under those bezels.

So what you're asking Apple to do is build an entirely different phone in a completely redesigned case.

Could they do that? Sure! But it would be a brand new phone and it wouldn't be their entry-level-priced phone anymore.

Look... I know we all hate that Apple recycles old designs for their updated cheaper models. But that's what they do. The old SE re-used the old iPhone 5S case and this new SE re-used the old iPhone 8 case. And they sell it for $400

The only real engineering effort is put towards their new models that retail for $700 or more. And unfortunately those have larger cases today full of the newest components.

Just be glad that Apple has some interest in smaller phones. The iPhone 8/SE still has one of the smallest cases today.

Android users have a difficult time finding an iPhone 8-sized phone today. And it's been a decade since there was an iPhone 5-sized Android phone. :p

*shrug*

Size was literally the tagline of the original SE launch. Even Apple's press release for the new SE pointed out how people loved the small size of the original SE.

Apple already created a "cheap" branding line when they launched the 5C alongside the 5S. They could have done exactly the same with a cheaper 6C alongside the 6S. But instead they launched the SE as a 4" form factor but with the latest internals because that's what the target audience wanted
I think Apple marketed the SE opportunistically to those who wanted a smaller phone. Why not? They wanted to sell as many as possible.

If Apple could have offered a 4.7” SE in 2016 at $399 (and later $349) and still made their margin, they would have. But the 6s was a $649 iPhone. Few ways to cost reduce it at that time. They had to go back to older tech that sold hundreds of millions already to get to a $349/399 selling price.

Similarly, if Apple could have offered the new SE based on the 5.5” 8 Plus and somehow hit the $399 price point, they would have; a $399 5.5” iPhone would sell better than will a $399 4.7” iPhone.

But the 8 Plus is a $549 phone, and switching out the A11 for an A13 doesn’t really cut costs. You can’t get to $399 with a Plus model right now. $499 would probably be the best they can do.

nah. they don't have a visionary any more. they just churn out product "updates" that are designed by committee (and not a very good committee). Cook doesn't have the talent to guide with a bold vision and plan like Jobs did - he's a run-of-the-mill rich old businessman just going through the motions. I'm not saying they can do better - after all, a Jobs or a Musk only comes along once in a generation in any given field (if that). We just got spoiled back in the Jobs days. Now Apple pursues "thinner and lighter" without any idea WHY they pursue those goals. Jobs got it - the products were designed to fulfill particular functions and user experience in a sublime ('magical") way. I haven't been excited for a new Apple product since 2007.

If this rumoured SE plus device is being developed with an all screen display, dewdrop notch and touch id in the power button then its not really the updated iphone 8 plus that we all want and crave i.e A13/14 and better camera etc. The dewdrop notch in particular would just kill my interest stone dead. I think we are going to have to accept that the iphone SE is the best option for us for now. Its a shame as that 1080p 401ppi 4:3 screen is excellent and unique amongst iphones. It was great whilst it lasted.

Exactly. IMO, the whole point of the SE was to give customers a smaller form factor with the latest tech. It's not the price, it's the size that matters. But maybe Apple thinks bigger sells better (especially when cheap).
This would be great, but it might be that the "latest tech" can only exist in larger phones, because of the increased size to fit that tech and a larger battery to power it. Or it might simply be that they realize that there wouldn't be a market for a high-cost small phone.

I love the small form factor, but personally I think their target market should be the nuts-and-bolts working professionals, the people who don't want a tablet-sized phone banging about in their pocket with 50 different lenses and a screen that is so good you can just fart about watching videos and scrolling through instagram all day. IMHO, their focus should be on it being small, light, weather-sealed with good connectivity and an all-day battery. And by all-day, I don't mean it's capable of doing nothing all day, but actually making calls and you know, doing stuff. I think with the iPhone 11 range they got into that "all day" zone, but I appreciate that it's not currently possible to get that battery life in a smaller form factor, because of the smaller battery size. Hopefully as battery technology evolves and the general power requirements of mobile CPUs and phone architecture improves, we'll reach that point where you can have a 4-5" ultra-slim, ultra-light, ultra-fast IP68 iPhone with an all-day battery. I'd buy one straight away.
