I was a bit surprised to find that the sim ejector tool bundled with the iPhone SE seems to be a lot flimsier than the tools I'm used to from previous iPhones. All the previous ejector tools I've seen were the "liquid metal" type. The one in the picture attached seems only a little more sturdy than a bent paper clip.

Has anybody else noticed this change? Do all iPhones come with this type of tool now, or is it only the SE?

Bundled SIM Ejector Tool? I haven't had a free SIM Ejector Tool come with an iPhone since my 3G.

This change happens from iPhone 6 era, as soon as I remember. At least, when I bought iPhone 6 Plus, the eject tool looked like what you show in the photo.

No idea.

My first SIM ejector tool was in October 2015. Sprint model iDevices don't come with a SIM ejector tool and while the 5 and later the 6+ were my first phones that actually had SIMs it wasn't until I ported to T-Mobile that this little tool became a thing.

Correct. The SIM tool is included with for the simless iPhones. I actually purchase a stronger Sim removal tool while back. It works a lot better For the newer Sim trays on the iPhone 7 models with the O-Ring seal embedded around the tray, which can be stubborn to remove. Those cheap one tools Apple includes bend and are junk.

You're right! I just got 3 tools from Apple, and they're different from the photo you posted

Yours look like a pretty folded paperclip

Does it work?

No, Apple just put it in there for ***** and giggles

So you're talking about the looks. Not the function? If it works who the hell cares about how it looks. "Form Follows Function".
Oh by the way my question was sarcastic

Thought you were being serious when you asked if the tool worked

I've only ever seen this one (6 plus, 6s plus, and 7 plus).
Same here, my 5s and 7 both came with the sturdier type not the paper clip looking ones. When I recently sent my phone off for repair to Apple they sent me one with the empty box and another with the returned phone and both were the sturdier type as well.

Mine have never had that break in them but I don't see why would they change it to something cheaper? Apple's whole schtick was always caring about the screws in the back of the machine so I doubt they're trying to cut corners on something already so inexpensive.

UK SIM free models from Apple all come with an ejector tool. Only the SE comes with the one pictured, every other iPhone comes with the solid metal one.
