I'd say I have no interest to switch iPhone 6S back to smaller iPhone SE/5S, but can deny that it's good choice for iPhone starter.

One of my friends is really sick of using Android phones, and she's going to have her first iPhone. NOT considering 6 or 6S, so SE or 5S? Appreciate you guys advice.

Why would you want a 5s if the Se for better in every way?

Not sure how someone could compare the 5s to the SE at this point. The only way would be from a jailbreak perspective that the 5s may have an edge. I have a 5s and the SE is my next phone.

Since it's de same externally and better internally and cost barely the same, who ever wants a 5s?

Not to mention the SE is $50 cheaper then the 5s was.... Go for the SE identical design to the 5s, all current tech as 6s, and cheap (for an iPhone).

How is this even a debate/question. With the price of the SE I don't know how anyone would even consider a 5S for a second, unless they are getting it second hand significantly cheaper

I am using iPhone 5s and I will always use it because it's very good
Yeah, me too! I hate phones that run faster, have more RAM, have a better camera, have longer lasting battery, and are the same form factor and size, and cost about the same.

They will have to pry my 5s out of my cold dead hands and force me to use the 5se. Got to run now, my horse and buggy are double parked. Besides my other Amish friends shun me already because of my iPhone.

Definitely SE is superior to 5S in every possible way, except price...You can see detail comparison first and then make your decision.

Good to use for sure, though you don't want to change to 6/6S at this stage, you'll like more advanced iPhone in the future, such as 7/7s/8 or so...esp. when there's huge improvement..

Not camera, the one in 6 and 6S has aggressive noise reduction processing in software which can not be deactivated, it's well documented in several places, it can take worse photos than 5s, it depends. This issue is also known as the watercolor effect. Here's a photo I took with my 6S, notice the aggressive noise reduction on top right, and other photo samples I found from threads discussing the issue:

Phones should only be used for photos where a camera is not needed, so this should not matter too much. The compromises being made simply by forgoing an actual camera make this issue tiny in comparison.

SE.

Saving money from buying a 6/6s while still maintaining most of the important specs of the 6s. Don't be foolish going back to 1 GB of RAM. This is the best iPhone that Apple ever made inside/out since the 5s but just done better.

At this point i wouldn’t get the 5s and go for the SE, unless you can get new unlocked dirt cheap.

I think i'll wait for the iPhone SE/30, like I should have done when I got my Mac SE and did not want to wait for the SE/30 to arrive at ComputerLand 20 something years ago.

If there first foray into the iPhone market is going to be successful, it would be wiser to spend that small bit extra and go for the SE (and preferably 64gb) so that if they do plan on holding the device for a few years - they will still have a VERY capable little handset with the latest software in 2017/2018 etc ....

If however this foray into iOS is transient and likely to be over in less than a year - go for the 5S.

I have a dslr with multiple lenses and a PASM compact. With child strapped to me and diaper bag slung on me it's rare that I have a standalone camera with me when I actually want to take pictures. Not that I really have time for that in any dedicated capacity.

So, phone pictures are often the only ones I'm going to have. A noticeable reduction in quality matters.
