you would have to recreate them in photoshop. you can't just resize it or else it will be blurry.
does anyone know how to change more parts in teh messages app? i'd like to change the background and make the name at the top transparent if it's possible.
To change SMS background: Rename the picture you want to use to "SMSBackground.png", put that into a folder, name it e.g. SMSBackground, SSH it into your themes folder, respring.

What program did you use to make those bubbles? Im trying to do some with textures/patterns like wood grain not quite sure where to start tho...

Forgo it entirely. Download Afc2Add from cydia. Get something like iFunBox or iPhone Explorer and manage the iphone when connected through USB.
they are not showing on mine.. I did everything step by step also..
are you on IOS4.1?
also do you use winterboard? i found it better to make this customizing as a theme so it can easily be turned on or off
yep 4.1 and also winterboard.. Is it supposed to show up in winterboard? or is there an option to turn them on? I SSH'd through PC
ok since your on OS4.1 you have to name slightly different
name the
Balloon_1@2x~iphone.png
and
Balloon_2@2x~iphone.png
now to make this a "theme" in winterboard so you can turn on and off do the following
make a folder on your desktop call it whatever you want it called in winterboard
ie: custom sms theme
in this folder you can add a background if you do not it uses that default background, custom background needs to be 480x480pxls and needs to be called
SMSBackground.png (case sensitive) this goes in the main custom theme folder, then make another folder called Bundles then inside that make a folder called com.apple.MobileSMS
put the two png files in this folder
copy theme to the var/stash/theme.xxxxx file on your phone open winterboard slect respring and you should be good
and to be clear there is a _ after Balloon its hard to tell because it underlines it all but you need the _ after Balloon
So i followed the provided instructions....
I got the INCOMING bubble to change fine, but the OUTGOING doesn't seem to want to change for some reason....
Anyone have any insite?
