"We believe that USB-C is detrimental to the MFi business's profitability, and its waterproof specification is lower than Lightning and MagSafe."

That's the primary reason to keep the Lightning cable.. money! Apple doesn't want to lose one of its biggest cash cow when it comes to accessories.
Why can't Apple redesign the cable to USB 3.x speed?

That would involve them spending money to make it, I guess.

It comes down to cost - most USB-C charging cables are also not capable of USB 3+ speeds.

Apple has the money to create whatever it wants. A simple cable should be easy for it to do.
It created the lightning cable. The USB-C cable is universal now considering Apple uses it for some of its Macs and iPads.
If Apple wants keep things proprietary, it can create any cable type.

They did?

Adapters don't count when the subject is about the cable itself.
Another way for Apple to make money.. creating adapters when it refuses to replace the lightning cable.

still USB 3.0 (far from USB-C capable USB 3.2) and it doesnt applies to regular lighting ports. just to the iPad, so lighting is not a standard per se, Apple has several version and they arent specified in the devices.
USB-C behaviour is similar, but it could be 3.1 or 3.2, and lighting is 2.0 or 3.0,so like 20 years older…
moreover, the adaptor cost *only* 39 bucks…

No Apple needs to figure out how to move data over the MagSafe port and eliminate that port completely. If they can do that, it would be possible for them to completely seal the phone against any type of contaminants.

Oh that’s another thing, use the vibration through the cheekbone to minimize the notch, then see if they can figure out an under screen camera.

Every time portless gets brought up, I have to bring up CarPlay. I think Apple would have to make a piece of hardware to accommodate non-wireless CarPlay cars. On some level, I don't mind buying Bluetooth headphones because Apple removes the headphone jack. I will not buy a new car because Apple removes the iPhone port.
Funny enough just bought one the other day works great. I get in the truck. 5-10 seconds I have wireless Apple car play. No more cables for me that break in a year.

And yet they got rid of the lightning port and replaced it with a usb-c port on some devices, and got rid of mag safe and replaced it with usb-c on other devices.

If your conspiracy theory were true, why did apple do that?

Why Lighting isn't going away.

But the main reason is simple; It's about keeping control and making money.

The Lightning connector is proprietary for Apple. It brings in good money via licensing fees, since if you need to physically connect to an i-Device, you have no choice but to use Lightning. Apple execs aren't going to walk away from that advantage.”

Apple fanboys will disagree and never find fault with anything Apple.

Many iPhone users disagree and don’t care what those fanboy zealots think or say.

Many Mac users disagreed on various online forums when Apple changed to the USB-C cables but finally accepted it.

Using more universal, compatible items should be more common instead of settling for proprietary products.

Unfortunately, this issue has been going on for years and many zealots will shoot down anyone who disagrees with them. Apple can do no wrong in their view.

We already know MagSafe can't carry any data. There's nothing to figure out.

MagSafe battery packs and accessories rely on an NFC chip to communicate.

And yet apple got rid of lightning in ipad pros, got rid of MagSafe in macs, etc. The pennies they make on licensing is clearly not the issue. But apple haters don’t have answers when confronted with evidence that directly contradicts their theories.

Lightning is still a usb cable. A universal plug on one end. And with millions of iPhone/iPads out there, the other end is universal too.

One more reason to turn me away from apple products. I do like them, but the lightning ports are just something that can turn away a lot of customers.
