but honestly not many person transfer a lot of datas over cable anymore. especially on iPhone what much data u want copy since its all synced with iCloud?

iCloud is also slow. Want to show a video to someone that you recorded that's synced to the cloud, you have to wait for it to download. That's the way it's been for me. With manual syncing, it's instantaneous.

The iPhone will NEVER, and I do mean NEVER, switch to USBC.
As reports have shown, they’ve been interested in removing the port since 2017.
It will happen eventually. They’re not gonna change the port one year, just to remove it the next. If they wanted to switch, they would’ve done it years ago.
Lightning works. It’s not the best, it’s definitely not the most convenient, but they are still putting it on new products today. The AirPods max came out not even a full two months ago, and they still have Lightning.
So to reiterate, as much as I and several others would love it, USBC Will never be added to the iPhone
I wish you were wrong, but you're not.

While USB Type C does work, I do worry that the male connector itself is prone to clogging. 😒 USB-IF should have made Type C look essentially like a larger version of the Lightning connector instead.

It is very frustrating when the rest of the phone world is on USB-C and you are over at a friends house and cant charge your phone due to Apple's anti-consumer practices.

I would hope your friends have adopted wireless chargers like mine have by now. That’s usually the case when I’m with my friends.

I know I'll catch flak for saying this, but...

I'm glad. The lightning connector is a lot more durable than USB-C. I honestly think that this is why Apple keeps using it in their highest volume products.

We tend to plug and unplug our phones a lot to charge them, sometimes on a daily basis.

I've seen Macbooks with USB-C where the socket has worn out to such an extent the plug will fall out if you turn it sideways.

I've never seen a lightning connector wear out. At the worst it needs an occasional cleaning.

Yes, it's annoying to have a different connector than my Android friends but honestly, it's not a big deal. I almost always have a cable in my car I can use in an emergency.
I have an iPad Air 2, an iPad Pro 10.5 and an iPhone 8 all with worn out lightning ports. The charging becomes flaky. Charging on and off when you move it slightly.

iPad with first generation Apple Pencil is the worst in this, because you have to charge the pencil in that lighting hole too. It really wears it out fast.

Learn more about Lithium Batteries and why it's not good to fast charge, then you get it. Remember the competitor has an IED version of the Note series due to this.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 problem was due to the poor design of the battery pack itself, as Samsung admitted. Modern cellphones that offer faster charging like the iPhone 8 and later support fast USB-IF PD charging, but automatically slow down the charging rate as the charge exceeds 75% to extend the life of the battery.

Clean out your ports, there's likely lint and crud in them that keeps the plug from going all the way in.

There's no way a sizable user base needed TB at all, let alone TB3 vs 2. eGPUs only, basically.

You're not providing any data to back that up.

You're suggesting average customers are buying $1200 and $1300 pro accessories.

My eGPU was $150.

Sold out means higher than expected sales, one of them at the beginning of the pandemic a year ago when the market was weird, not high sales. So no, I'm not placing myself more important than everyone else, you are.

So...you're saying Apple partnered up with LG to create the Ultrafine series displays to address a less-than-sizable-user-base? That's stupid.

My friends have new Macs and docks like everyone else. They only use those USB-C ports to adapt to other ports. The only thing they're good for if you're not a creative pro.

Creative pros are "a sizable user base". Assuming you know 200 "friends" that don't USB-C natively, I can easily find a department in LA that exceeds that number that exclusively rely on at least one thunderbolt port to suit their needs.

Really, you are making yourself and your friends more important than the larger user base.

This is exactly why USB-C sucks currently, it's hard to find a "splitter" (for lack of a better term) for it. For USB-A, $5 buys you 5 more ports. Give customers an actual improvement, and they will switch, like every port migration of the past.

And yes, we will be stuck with both USB-C and A if they don't fix this. All the more reason to keep my current laptop.

are you really going to complain about $1.90 to adapt USB-C to USB-A? https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...offerlist.normal_offer.d_title.16ffd4ffz9XOkn

No, I'm complaining about the $30+ to get just 2 USB-C ports from a single one, and the extra ports have weird limitations on them like no charging. This is why accessories are USB-A, cause you never run out of USB-A ports.

You already mentioned you and your friends don't use USB-C other than to adapt. So you don't need to spend $30+ to get more USB-C ports, just get the $1.90 hub.

You're not providing any data to back that up.

Not like you're providing data either. We both know who's right, and it's undeniable that average users aren't using >20gbit/s of bandwidth on a single port.

Look at some eGPUs on Amazon. The first result has 1300 ratings. The rest have very few, like <100. Google "eGPU." Notice how the results are from TechCrunch and Reddit.

Now look at USB-C hubs. All of them at 1-10K ratings. 24K on the top one. Cheaper items too, so probably a lower % of buyers rated. Google "usb-c hub." Notice how all the results are from Amazon and mainstream news sites that normal people visit.

good thing: I have lots of lightning cables and dongles. They won't go waste

bad: I can't just carry the Mac charger when traveling and use it for everything. I was thinking of switching to the samsung airpods since they have USB C. Won't bother now

Ok, then that perpetuates USB-A accessories existing alongside USB-C forever. Might as well just have USB-A on the laptop to begin with.

Perpetuates USB-A for you while others have already moved on to USB-C only.

Again, you're putting your usage above others. Apple caters to the masses, not just you.

Links to sold out reports is far more data than whatever you provided (nothing?).

We both know who's right,

When you don't give any data other than "your friends", that's hardly being right.

and it's undeniable that average users aren't using >20gbit/s of bandwidth on a single port.

You went from "my needs" to "the 0.0001%" to "sizable user base" and to now "average users".

Moving goal posts.

Notice how it's not $1200 like you said they would be? $300 is closer to $150 than $1200.

The rest have very few, like <100. Google "eGPU."

Ratings does not equal sales.
EGPU does not equal to all use cases of TB3/USB-C.

What point are you making here?

Notice how the results are from TechCrunch and Reddit.

And?

And?

I sure love getting charging, external hard drives, ethernet, 2x displays from plugging in one thing. Many others do too. See? A nice benefit to using USB-C. Can't do that with USB-A. ;)

Considering you still have yet to provide any evidence to back up your case, and considering you seem to only factor your use case as the only case that matters (which makes no sense), I'm done. 👋

0.0001% is an exaggeration, but I'll stand by 1 in 1000. USB-C is mostly only used for adapting to other ports. Enjoy your fantasy where regular people buy eGPUs, and enjoy the dongles.

They are clean. Apple looked over the devices and recommended whole device replacement due to worn out ports. The little springs on the sides of the lightning plug is weakened, so they don't hold the plug in.

well that depends on your internet speed

While often attributed to abuse due to dirt, it’s also my experience that the ports wear rather easily.
