OP and story are full of smoke, too bad you're all falling for it.
He wants you to believe he has the girls name and knows she stole, with proof, and yet he doesn't want to call the cops? Come on! Stop giving this thread too much attention and it's 15 pages - it's just silly. Silly I tell ya!

Did you read the thread? He's already went to the police and filed a report and is waiting for the detective to call him back.

If you had a mobile me subscription you could use find my iPhone, and it show you on a map where you iPhone is at and you can also remotely lock, or remotely wipe it clean. If you remotely wipe it then the find my iPhone feature will not work. But if do remotely wipe it and get the phone back and just restore it from backup and you will be back to normal
People need to stop relying on mobile me. Everyone knows to take out the sim card. Also simply turning off locations or simply turning off the phone will disable mobile me.

Good god, I have to sleep sometime. Calm down -_-

Screenshots and everything.

Report her to the police because obviously she thinks making jokes about being a theif is funny. Wow, for a person that stole an iPhone, you'd think she would edit who she adds on Facebook, at least. I would have reported her to the cops after I saw that her and her friends, looked like the cast of Jersey Shore. You should snap a picture of the look on her face when the cops come knockng on her door.

what I still dont get is (and maybe I missed this somewhere in this huge thread) how did the girl happen to add the OP on facebook? Did she get his info off the phone and add him? or was it purely coincidental that the person who happened to steal his phone also added him on facebook through other means? like a friend in common or something.

It may be that Facebook found him in her computer after she connected his phone and suggested that she add him. I know FB has suggested people in my address book with whom I haven't interacted in years. They're extended family, so I keep their contact info, but I don't need to friend them on FB. She may just friend everyone who it suggests.

She isn't smart

There are some amazingly frightening, insane and deeply twisted people in this world. No, I am not referring to either the OP or "Kassie." More referring to people who, in response to this, think the following punishments are warranted:

1) Life-altering criminal record
2) Online harassment
3) Prison
4) ...and worse

Speaking as someone who is familiar with the pain that can be inflicted by having a criminal record for even a minor misdemeanor -- and how difficult it is to get your record "sealed" even if your case is outright dismissed -- you people are either deeply sadistic or have no idea what the punishments you're suggesting actually entail.

By the way, I note with continued interest after reading this entire thread that it looks an awful lot like this girl FOUND the phone and didn't STEAL it. That's a pretty freaking significant distinction that's being glossed over in your rush to condemn and punish a teenage girl.

If you find a cellular phone, you can easily return it to any cell phone store (Verizon, ATT, etc) and they will find the owner. Not to mention easier methods would likely be available as the owner's information is all over the phone. She didn't because she wanted to keep it.

You're a defense attorney's dream juror.

Besides, depending on her age and legal history, she'd probably get little more than a 'talking to' by the cops. Depends on what the OP would want to do.

Yes of course, there is a clear line between stealing it and finding the phone. But when she POSTED that she is going to intentionally take the SIM card OUT so the phone won't get tracked that's not the right thing to do either.

If I found an iPhone, first thing I would do is probably call the contact marked as "mom", "dad", or the most recent call history.

While there is a clear line between stealing and finding the phone, there is also a distinction between TRYING to return the phone that's not yours vs trying to conceal it and use it for yourself......

Sorry ginsengbomb, but I am well aware of the consequences and I feel no sympathy for this girl/woman.

Especially since the owner of the phone has called her multiple times to try and get the phone back.

She is a criminal and should suffer the consequences of being a criminal. If you don't want to suffer the consequences of being a criminal, don't commit criminal acts, like stealing someone's cell phone.

The OP deserves to have his stuff stolen. What idiot doesn't immediately work to get it back because he doesn't want the thief to get in trouble? Seriously.

Well if you have her name googlel her damn parents and say do you know you raised a thief?
Why in the hell would you do her any favors and not press charges?

I've read a good bit of this thread but not all of it... I think your best bet is to visit your attorney and have him/her type up a nice ultimatum to either return the iPhone or suffer the consequences. If she gets wind the police are involved, she will most likely dump the phone (and let's face it, the 5-0 most likely won't do much about a case like this...). Or just call her parents up and tell them about this ordeal and if they protect their child, tell them that you will involve your attorney. Of course this tactic is only used to scare them into returning the phone. A lot of my teenage logic is probably wrong but that's just my two cents. Hope everything turns out well, OP!

If the police havent resovled this by now with the information you have given them, I would be P.O.

This topic moves slower than molasses.

If something wasn't done within the first few days, no progress will ever come of it.

is this the thread where they became facebook friends, and the girl now is dating the Op? we were arguing that she's just using him so he doesn't turn her into the police? :D

anyone else find it interesting that the OP and Kassie both use

-_-

not many people do this...much less both of the parties we are talking about.

I love being investigator....

While I have no idea why anybody would make up this entire story, this post is the one I agree with that makes me very suspicious of this being true.

Yep, just another attention-seeking forum troll. Guy doesn't care about the phone for 10 days, and we're to be expected to care about the lame story?
