She lives in a city called Orange.

No updates so far. I haven't been able to confirm which address the girl lives at, and I'm not going to give the address over to police until I'm 100% certain that it she's there. I'd really hate to send them out to the wrong house.

Help

We could help look her up if we had info on her!!!

Orange is pretty far past Beaumont.. I'm new to this, but found it interesting since I live in Houston as well. Just wanted to stop by and say hope you get the phone back while teaching the girl a lesson. My brother had his iPhone stolen by his best friend, and I found it on craigslist later the same night. To say the least, it was an interesting experience. Good luck.

Realistically, the longer this goes on, the more likely it becomes she gets away with it, so trying to confirm this on your own doesn't make sense. It's the police's job to confirm that address, not yours, and they do have some resources to do so that we as civilians don't have ready access to. If there's enough evidence to potentially link her to it (same last name, etc.), then let them do the work of determining who really lives there. They're not likely to go out there just on your say-so anyway. Give them the address tomorrow; you can always contact them again if you manage to confirm it on your own.

Count me with those who have no sympathy for this girl. I'd like to see her nailed before she learns she can get away with anything she wants. Good luck!

You really need to be more assertive with this. They're not going to go in shooting. Just give them what you have and keep researching. If you find better data hand it over to them. IF you want your phone back. You're doing well...get your phone back man.

dude, you need to have them track the IP address that way they can find her.

DO IT NOW.

I'd be all over this just to teach this little b**** a lesson.

OP, be more assertive with this. Even if you don't get your phone back, you'll hopefully teach her a little something about life.

Look into the small claims court rules for Texas, the point of incident. If she has your property and no way of proving it is hers, then she may be liable via a judgement. Even if you never collect, her credit is history until the judgement is resolved.

Plus if she does not show up for the hearing, show your evidence to the judge and the judge can & will make a decision based on evidence presented on court date.

She is a thief and deserves to be treated as a thief.....

The problem is with small claims is that if she ditches the phone then there is no proof that it was his phone that she "found" unless the police can get it so they can match up serial numbers.

Orange is about 20 or so miles east of beaumont, right there on the tx/la state line almost. My father used to live there years ago before he retired. If anyones from that area please dont take offense to this but most of the people i met while i visited a few years back seemed to be of the trailer park trash class. nice enough people, but thats the impression i got.

I agree with all of the above. Don't drag this out. If the police are willing to investigate, let them.

I really hope things work out for you.

anxiously awaiting the next update...teenage girls are so entertaining, aren't they?

+1 You can be open with the police and say you have two addresses and you're not sure which one it is. Ask them whether they want you to verify it or will they handle it.

But you are losing time.

But you are losing time.

Time is apparently not a concern. He lost 11 days before he contacted the police. By now, the girl has probably dumped the phone and deleted the FB posts. Screenshots can be faked.

Oh, and El Paso isn't South Texas. Get it right. And it's not part of Mexico either, last I checked.

If the OP needs additional proof, he has the names of people who assisted and encouraged the girl with the stolen iPhone. They could always be questioned to know if those posts on Facebook were real.

You apparently didn't read his first post. He said that he reported it to AT&T and FILED A POLICE REPORT WITH THE HOUSTON POLICE.

He didn't wait 11 days to report it, he contacted us after he got a friend request on Facebook.

All of you amateur sleuths need to get your facts straight. And you, PT, who claims to work for a college newspaper, should be more concerned with the accuracy of your facts.

To all the rest of you...
... who want him to go to her house, He DOESN'T live in Texas, he was traveling through the airport in Houston.
... he is letting the police do their job, as he should.
... recommend small claims court, you have no idea what you are talking about. You have been watching too much Judge Judy.
... want her friends to testify - get real. That would only happen after this goes to trial, and I guarantee that this won't happen over an iPhone.

You guys have to stop watching so much TV.

dude stop being a wuss and give the police her name already, they can easily look up her address and slap some sense into her. You've been dragging this on too long, she's a thief now have her arrested and get your $600 phone back.

well now...too lazy to read all the posts on this thread....but since I live in Houston I'll offer up this little tid bit...you have not filed a police report yet....why not?
