I sent the dev an email, but in case he is monitoring this thread do you guys think it would be helpful for the current application to display if it is already backgrounded?

In all honesty, no. If it's already backgrounded then it's not going to be backgrounded again. Unless you wanted to explicitly un-background an app while using it and obviously weren't sure if it already was.
I suppose the option to do so wouldn't be too bad.

Would be good to speak to the author about this app to implement some nice functionality but keep its ease of use. It's already really simple and does what it should, adding more functions could cause it to be pointlessly complicated for some users.

Mail & phone are designed to always run in the background. Yes you can close them, but they will open right back up and run in the background.

That's why when you open Processes in SBSettings, Mail & Phone are always running.

Sorry for double post, my mail app does not reload when closed via this task manager, meminfo or any other form of closing an app (holding home button)
To my knowledge the mail app doesn't even run when you reboot your iPhone. It only runs when you execute it yourself and then does usually linger after use.

I know the phone is supposed to stay running as that does reload itself. It knocks off the signal when you close it resulting in 'Searching...' to appear.

A good idea for the dev would be to safe-guard apps like phone and springboard from being closed. There simply is no reason to close them.

My suggestion only has to do with the current app you're in, not ones that are already backgrounded.

One example would be if you have been in an app for a while and you forget if you have it backgrounded. Checking for the badge on the SB interrupts the app so this would be a very quick way to check. You can then decide if you want to background or not.

Another would be if you are having a particularly good game and don't want to worry about loosing it. You could pause, check and then BG if necessary.

Yeh that actually sounds like a good idea. If it has some kind of indication of which ones are already backgrounded that would be best. Like highlighted in a different colour or like you said have a badge on their icon in the task manager.

You only need to do this for the Current Application, any else that's backgrounded is displayed in the "Other Applications" list.

And the Current Application is the one that's open on the screen. Why would we need a notification to tell us that the application that we are staring at is open?

Yeah the 'current app' thing is useless.

Mail.app runs all the time if you have fetch turned on.

That would explain it then, I do not have fetch mail on. I can't see the point for the amount of battery it wastes lol.
I hope the author is reading this thread cos there's some damned good ideas for his app. He should start a small blog for people to post ideas directly for him to consider.

I'm just thankful he made the app in the first place and released it for free.

Anyone try the new update yet? You can now launch apps from the menu. You have to add certain apps to your favorites and those are the ones that you can quick launch. It's working great for me. Very quick. So far I have Beejive, Pandora, ESPN Score Center, and my fantasy football manager in my favorites and it makes it much easier to get to these apps then having to go back to the home screen and open them up that way.

It has nothing to do with the current app being open, which it obviously is.

This has to do with knowing if the current app has been backgrounded already so you can decide if you want to background it or not.

Again, this feature is only useful if you are running Backgrounder.

Thanks for posting this lol. i just opened Cydia and BAM updated :D
It's awesome. Hides essential apps, like phone.
Allows you to execute favourites selected from a list (not your favourites menu on the home button)
I was testing the stability the other night with 10 apps running and it froze my iPhone. It made a blip noise and just froze after running the 10th app. Then I had to hard reset lol. This was prior to the current update though, I'll try again later and see if I can break it once again.

I e-mailed the dev and linked him to this page, I wonder if he came on and saw all of our suggestions because some have been cleared up.

Thanks to the dev if you are reading. I'm going to donate to him to keep updating the app!

I donated because I believe the developer has created a great application. And it looks like he has recreated the crash issue which results when two Apple apps that are essentially the same app (i.e. Photos and Camera) are added to the list of favorites. While the issue has been isolated, he is still working on a fix. This was reported and recreated by the dev the same day btw :).

I would hope that the application stays "clean" like it is now and doesn't start to do much more than it does now. Favorites is a nice addition. I would be very much against anything that puts identifying badges on backgrounded apps (this belongs to Backgrounder) or otherwise changes the springboard.

I would like to see Kirikae using smaller icons and rows within the app if possible. 4 or 5 apps and the screen is already full. I would put this as a very low priority however.

Nice job Lance. Great app!!
Over 16,000 downloads...Let's hope some of those are donating. I did!

I totally agree with you on all accounts.

I've also noticed how fast apps open using this. If I run the mail app, or messages or even safari they open instantly (i have animations off) why doesnt apple have this built into the settings! lol. I know animations look fancy but they aren't required and seriously speed up the loading/closing process.

Also, if you remember me saying about the issue of opening an app then closing it with it being the current app running it would reload itself. This seems to have been fixed! Brilliant is all I can say.
If this app got any better it would the perfect app for the iPhone.

Showing the the list of "Other Applications" also displays info that has to do with Backgrounder. IE shows apps that are backgrounded. I'm still hoping for some indication that the Current app has or has not been backgrounded.

Aside from that, keep it as clean and quick as possible.

Two bugs I've noticed with the current version. I've emailed the dev.

1. If your app has a badge, confirmed with Mail and Messages, it will be indented a little in the list of Current and Other Apps.

2. In Mail, for example, when you would swipe to the right on an email you would get a button that said "Delete". Now, because it acts as a task quitter, that button says "Quit" regardless of which app you are in.

Anyone else getting these?

I can confirm number 2. Mail app says 'Quit' for all 'swiped' e-mails or items.
Same goes for Messages (tested). Seems to replace the 'global' wording for these types of buttons it would seem.

I cant test number 1 cos I dont have badges on with backgrounder, they're annoying lol.

I see this as well. Hopefully it can be fixed, but I can live with it as the functionality still works.

What I'm seeing is if there is a message waiting notifier this happens, not if the backgrounder notifier is on, correct? (2 messages waiting, 4 emails, etc).

oh maybe I misunderstood what he meant by badge.

I dont see any difference if I have a new email notification number on the main icon. The icon in Kirikae is still standard without the number on it.

Please explain a little better

...Please explain a little better

Here's a thousand words...

Both Mail and Newsstand have unread items and therefore a badge. This has nothing to do with Backgrounder.

PS. The theme is Pump, available on Cydia or MacThemes if you want all the icons.

I can't replicate this. As far as I can tell the edge of each icon is in the same place. I've even tried adding 50 new e-mails and it still doesn't alter the icon.

Ah ok, I couldn't think of another app to test it on.
Hopefully will be fixed. nothing major though tbh just annoying if anything.

This. This is such a great app, I just wish I didn't have to 1. Scroll to the bottom to find another app I want, and 2. Double click home, then click favorites, for another app I want to launch. The app icons & space is just too much right now, it's a bit annoying.

Also, it'd be nice if we could add a swipe from the bottom corner to launch this instead of the double click home button. I use the double click home button all the time as I'm controlling my iPod while using apps.

With that being said, I'm so excited to see where this app goes. It was a much needed add to the iphone. 9/10 so far!
