Ah the hubris to think that Apple is depending or not on one’s own personal preference to a possible unannounced device. ::chef finger kiss::Definitely will be passing on this gimmick its an ugly phone looks like a brick.

My only issue with some foldable phone is the asymmetry when it’s closed, one one side it’s rounded corners and the other a squared-off corners. Why not just make it all squared-off like some Sony phones and have a symmetric look to it.
I am sure there is a solution to this problem to have all rounded corners but maybe the technology is not there yet or it has yet to be revealed.
Agreed, if you're a pro max user this is just wasted time and a useless thingI thought this might explain the actual problems folding phones solve. I get “bigger screen” but that’s a feature, not a user story.
Hmm, I haven't noticed that on my z fold 7 what's the last foldable you used?My only issue with some foldable phone is the asymmetry when it’s closed, one one side it’s rounded corners and the other a squared-off corners. I mean I feel like I can answer this and I don't have to ask, 2k is about it, after that it's just some collectors item. With an average of what, two to four years actual use time until most will upgrade? What’s that line? “If you have to ask how much “?
Used the Z Fold in the store, I guess it depends with which hand one holds the phone with.Hmm, I haven't noticed that on my z fold 7 what's the last foldable you used?
There is a balanced between too much rounded corners and too much squared-off corners. The UX/UI with LiquidGlass has comically rounded corners while the iPhone and iPad also has too much rounded corners. MacBook Air/Pro have a good balance the two.My Z Fold 7 have a more squared off look and I don’t like it, makes it look more industrial. There’s also something emotional when interacting with the screen with rounded UI elements, feels more organic.
I also think rounded corners makes it more comfortable to hold so I’d rather take the non symmetrical look.
The point is that with the outer screen being more square the larger open screen ends up being more iPad ratio and so it will add a significant amount of screen for watching movies or reels compared to something like the zfold that basically is a square when open.someone please explain to me what problem a square screen solves
it adds precious little for watching movies or reels
genuine question

When you say more square are you referring to the outer display? Because the point is that you would unfold to the larger screen and now have a better aspect ratio when you do that. This thing is designed specifically to be better than something like the zfold that opens into a large square which actually has huge black bars. The challenge is the aspect ratio; more square results in black bars for unused space. Unless it is wider than an iPhone is tall, openning won't add any extra space, unless you zoom and crop. The extra space will be useful to those wanting such a phone, just not for videos, IMHO.
It turns out that lemonade is delicious and the Dynamic Island (software feature) is useful.I don't understand the hate for the notch, frankly, but I equally didn't understand people hailing the dynamic island as genius. It struck me mostly as a well executed lemons->lemonade move.

Ah I see, yeah I agree with you if this was two iPhone airs that folded out into a big square screen similar to the Zfold I would have no interest in it.I was refering to the unfolded shape. If it is essentiality the same as two iPhones side by side you get no advantage for viewing videos, you could actually lose some vs turning an iPhone on its size. You do get more space for thongs ot in a standard video AR.
Do you really not know the difference between the two?why does Tim believe a crease makes it unusable but a notch is fine?
Bah humbug. At the very least, it will generate buzz, interest and foot traffic and lead to an overall increase in iPhone sales. If I had to guess, the reception ends up lukewarm.
As much as the concept appeals, can’t help but feel it would be too fragile still. Then there’s the price tag. Probably in 2x iPhone price range minimum.
Next people will discover they don’t unfold it much in practice. And that it makes for a worse feeling iPhone when not unfolded. Chunkieir, heavier.
Which leads to realization they might as well carry a cheap iPad on trips or in their backpack if they want to watch videos on a bigger screen. And stick to a single screen phone.
Same here. I have plenty of use cases on a daily basis that make me wish for an iPhone that is smaller and bigger than a Pro Max at the same time. That flexibility in a single device is the most important feature for me … everything else is secondary, e.g. I do not care whether it has Touch or Face ID and I don‘t mind having to unfold it first to get the “bigger than” advantage. The point is that you don’t have to carry an iPad with you for the times you do want to do more than just use a phone. A foldable replaces my phone and iPad Mini while enabling me to always have the tablet size with me which comes in handy a lot both when im out and about and while I am at home.
Yes, if watching video were the only thing for which I needed it. I got myself an iPad mini for trips and backpack. The experience led me to the realization that having a larger screen in a smaller device always within easy reach would be much welcome when I am out and about.Which leads to realization they might as well carry a cheap iPad on trips or in their backpack if they want to watch videos on a bigger screen. The notch and “island” are marketing signatures - this is an Apple product! The crease would be just another could be anything. Will be shocked if they don’t mess it up somehow. The MBN is good to look at with no notch on it. Praying they do that to the updated MBP.why does Tim believe a crease makes it unusable but a notch is fine?
Will take TouchID over a notch or island any day of the week.Needs to have good battery life. And no face id will be surprisingly annoying I guess.
I think the Neo will cost more iPad sales than the iPhone Unfold. It really works, whereas Apple has to screw up the iPadOS so it’s a closed system that AAPL shareholders and Mr Crook can ensure an anticompetitive advantage! I think the Neo represents much better value and small and portable. Except for artists and watching videos, MacOS makes it better in every single way. Includes the keyboard and trackpad even!Curious on people's thoughts. Do you think with the release of a "folding" type iPhone, the sales of iPads/iPad Mini will be reduced, significantly?
