Nowadays it's cheap to unlock iPhones because AT&T made the process easy for those who have access to it. Heck, I even have a website of my own (http://www.UnlockSimple.com) to unlock it for others ever since eBay started to take down the listings.

looks like you just came on to tell us about your website as you have been inactive ever since lol....ya its easy these days to make money from AT&T unlocks, I've been doing it as well but this forum isnt the place to advertise unless your desperate...

So... I took my unlocked AT&T iPhone 5 to the apple store a few weeks ago to get replaced. The home/sleep button stopped working. They replaced it no problem. I was worried I wouldn't get one that was unlocked back since I bought my unlock through swift unlocks.

Anyway, I restored the phone and nothing. No screen that said your iPhone is unlocked or anything. I bought another imei unlock and still, nothing in iTunes when I restore.

Today, my sister brought me her t-mobile nano sim to try and sure enough, The iPhone 5 is unlocked. Everything worked. But why wouldn't I get the unlocked message in iTunes like before? Did they change things?

its because apple transfers your unlock over to your new device...its not going to show you the message every time....its 1 time and 1 time only no matter how many times you replace your device.

I actually get that message every time I restore when I restored my 4S. Only restored once on my iPhone 5 so I don't know yet for this phone.

I decided to give it a whirl on my iPhone 5.

Any sites with an accurate unlock status? imei.info shows mine as

SIM lock: Unknown

thanks

Sometimes this can mean it is factory unlocked. I just unlocked a iPhone 5, used a website checker and it said "unknown" so I had the customer do a restore and it was unlocked.

What model is your iPhone?

Hi Mate,

its an iphone 5 16gb (UK T Mobile originally)

Is Sprint still being douchers and only unlocking the GSM portion of the phone for use outside of the US? I'd sure like to switch to Tmobile or Straight Talk. Makes no sense. I'm switching regardless even if I have to buy a new iPhone, but I should be able to use the phone I've paid for.

You answered your own question by saying "Sprint". They are hungry for customers so they will probable never change that policy.

I had to sell my 32gb iphone and rebuy the tmobile one. the sprint iPhone was in perfect condition and sold for 450 on CL which basically covered my ETF.

EDIT: Also, sprint doesnt tell you this but they will NOT prorate your monthyl bill if you switch over to T-Mobile in the middle of a billing cycle. So I suggest that if you want to switch, then you should do so towards the end of your billing cycle.

Exact same thing happened to me except with a 4S. Apple replaced my old unlocked 4S with a new one, and said that just syncing with iTunes would transfer the unlock. Never saw a Congrats message in iTunes, tried restoring, and nothing.

Put my new IMEI through the AT&T site and was granted another unlock, got the email and waited 24hours and still no unlock.

Have had a few websites I don't trust say my imei is still locked, but IMEI.info returns an error when I put my number in.

Will have to find a friend with T-Mobile to check but I'd be surprised if my unlock actually transferred with no message.

*edit* Not going to bother with a new thread. Just checked my friend's T-Mobile sim and to my surprise it worked. Replacement Apple Store phone was unlocked with no message in iTunes.

They are hungry for customers but they treat the ones they have like crap. Thanks for the advice, I'll pay the ETF at the end of my cycle for sure.
