When checking my 4S on here is was very accurate. I had checked mine about an hour before I received my email from unlock_fusion and my 4S was still locked. As soon as I got the email that it was unlocked, I checked again on that site and it said it was unlocked.

I had the exact same experience.

As for some AT&T users reporting that they got their iPhone 5's unlocked to begin with, there have been posts on this site saying the same thing. I'm curious whether those reporting that their phones came unlocked purchased their iPhone 5 from AT&T or Apple?

I travel internationally at least once a year...so yeah.

You travelling once a year doesn't quite reach the level of "awful lot", but ok.

----------

You doubting that?

Yes, I am. I think there is a lot of jumping on the unlocking bandwagon for no good reason other than "because I can". Which is a perfectly valid reason, don't get me wrong....

----------

$10 today could mean $100-$150 later when it comes to resale.

Ummm, I haven't seen that. At least not when I was researching 4S prices. The same $10 you are paying whoever buys your locked phone can pay, so it doesn't make sense they pay that premium. Or free if they can talk AT&T into the fact the phone is unsubsidized. When eBay instant sale quoted me $400 for my 4S, it was AT&T OR unlocked. No difference.

Just remember that you are probably getting a skewed sampling here because people who DO travel are more interested in getting their phones unlocked for use overseas and therefor more apt to check out this thread. And as you said, "because I can" is also a valid reason! ;)

I don't think anyone has to travel "an awful lot" to justify $8.
I think the mere possibility of it could justify $8 and some change.
I know once or twice a year I would like to have connectivity outside a hotel and would pay $8 for the option to buy a couple of gigs of data for $20-30 vs $20/MB ATT charges.

And like I said before, these 3rd party unlocks have gone away before just as quickly as they appeared. If that happens and tmobile's refarming finishes next year, when someone goes to sell an unlocked iphone5 to upgrade to get the 5S, there will be a small matter of supply and demand as tmobile customers snatch up all the unlocked phones out there over the next few months and no more cheap unlocked iphone5s are out there, you'll make your money back. If not, sell it for $258 instead of 250. Sounds like all upside and no downside to me.

I bought my 32GB iPhone 5 on launch day for $299.99 (fully subsidized price) and haven't paid for or requested an unlock, but I just checked my imei at http://dev.mk/iphone-simlock-status-imei-checker/ and it says that my phone is unlocked...

Now, the story behind my purchase is very convoluted (I called AT&T last Wednesday asking if I could get my upgrade eligibility bumped up for the iP5 and a rep told me to add a line to my account to get the subsidized price and then he would call me back and cancel the new line and waive the ETF. After dozens of calls and hours on the phone talking to reps who said he had lied, I finally talked to someone earlier this week who honored what he said and canceled the new line, transferred the iP5 to my old line and waived the $325 ETF) Maybe sometime during that process one of the reps inadvertently unlocked my phone?

I just checked my i5 IMEI at that link and it says mine is Unlocked as well. I paid the Early Upgrade $250 fee for my 32gb i5 so my contract renewed for 2 years. Weird. I'm not complaining just wondering if that checker is legit. It did indicate the correct warranty status on the phone though, 2yrs due to Apple+ coverage.

Same exact thing here.

the unlock service time looks like changed with every eBay seller

i checked a couple sellers they listed on the description between 1 - 4 hours, now they have changed to 12 -24 hours or maybe longer.

is something gonna happen? i got mine unlocked, but my wife's one still not arrive yet

Just got my iPhone 5 unlocked by unlock_fusion on ebay for $10

I grabbed Unlock Fusion's special pricing yesterday for $7.33. Got the unlock email no more than 6 hours later, and the sweet "Congratulations ..." message after the iTunes Restore.

Why I unlocked: Int'l travel and not wanting to pay AT&T's outrageous international rates. It's my damn phone and, as long as I honor my two year contract by paying monthly, why shouldn't I be able to use less expensive international services? AT&T is still getting my money ... just not all of it. :)

So I ended up checking with unlock_fusion's IMEI checker, and it does indicate that my phone is locked with AT&T, but the other checker indicate it is unlocked...

I seriously doubt this link you guys are using is valid. I bought my iPhone 5 on contract at AT&T and the link says it's unlocked.

Check iPhoneox.com Don't worry that one site says unlocked and another says locked as long as it works. If anyone needs to test it, buy a $.99 Simple Mobile micro SIM on eBay. You must connect your iPhone to iTunes to test it. You'll revert back to the activation screen on the iPhone and then be unlocked.

This site is processing unlocks in about 5 minutes to 1 hour during the day and early evening. I haven't tried them during the graveyard hours. Make sure you check your email a few minutes after ordering to input your IMEI:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/350607603463?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

iPhone 5 is probably included under the same service, but they don't specify it.

Gonna go on record and say I no longer believe the dev.mk site is valid. I'm going to run the restore on my iPhone 5, see if i get the unlock message, then check on a few other sites besides dev.mk. I'll let you guys know the results later.

I used unlock fusion for my two ip5 and iTunes gave me the "congrats" message, however iphoneox still says they are locked.

My iPhone 5 says "locked" at iphoneox and I got the unlocked confirmation in iTunes iPhone unlocked by unlock_fusion.

However, an iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S show up as unlocked.

Perhaps not.
But I've checked two different sites and they both say the exact same thing: UNLOCKED. And both are accurate as to dates, warranty status, capacity etc.

What sites did you use?

I just restored mine via iTunes and got the Congrats unlocked yada yada message, so I know I'm unlocked.

dev.mk shows everyone as unlocked, so not sure we can trust it.

I haven't found a site yet (besides dev.mk) that shows me as unlocked.

I beginning to thing there's no valid site that can check the IMEI of an iPhone 5. May just have to grab another SIM and test that way.

I think Apple has made it somewhat more difficult for sites like that to pull that info correctly that's why its so much hit and miss now.
Before they were a lot more accurate.
But if you get itunes telling you its unlocked what more verification do you need?

I don't, was just hoping to find a useful website. :)

It accurately said that I was NOT unlocked before I bought the unlock. Then accurately showed me as unlocked after I followed the process.

That checker says my i5 is locked. The other said it was already unlocked.
Did you buy the unlock from the checker site? If so, ya, not too hard for them to maintain their own list of people who bought their unlock service so that their check indicates unlock after purchase.

Well said.
There's a bunch of them showing them all locked.
And then give you a link to unlock it with their service. Kinda shady IMO.
So even if it is unlocked and you dont know it they're charging you anyway:D
