more stable

it definitely is a lot more stable. i've been browsing safari listening to music for the past 20 minutes (at least). not a crash yet. pretty impressive.

yes, i noticed that i can now browse safari and listen to the ipod now with no problem since updating. i will have to wait to see if safari randomly shuts down like it was doing on me.

hopefully the battery life is better. when i get on safari or youtube, my battery drains very fast. but i can listen to the ipod for like 12 hours non stop with no issue.

My weather icon just stays at sunny and 73 degrees, nothing like conditions here.

Same as mine, and it is definitely not 73 degrees. Was the original person who posted this the *only* person to suggest that this was changed in 1.0.1? If so, it's probably untrue.

the sound is much better

Oh wow!

I don't know if I'm imagining things but now it seems that the iPhone plays sounds through BOTH the speaker and the mic and not just one of them.

Somebody please verify this! I swore it only played sound through one side before...

heck yea!!

i thought i was trippin when the sound came so loudly and clearly from my phone. that is a major improvement!!!

This isn't even possible. There is only 1 speaker and 1 mic at the bottom of the phone. Unless this update turned the mic into a speaker I don't think this is likely. I have not noticed a difference here.

Also, for people who are claiming that their sound is clearer on the external speaker when they play it at higher volumes please do me a favor and set the EQ to rock and download and play Elliot Yamin's song "wait for you". This song severly rattles my outer speaker. I think this might be due to the fact that it was encoded at a very high bitRate and it also had some extra bass in it. This is exactly what I was experiencing before and after the update. You will notice that songs will sound clearer with the EQ turned off. Maybe your EQ was reset to OFF after the update. Please test with it on before saying that the sound is clearer.

AMAZING update!

This is amazing - after installing the iPhone update my screen stopped showing fingerprint or smudges. Thank you Mr. Clean ;)

Seriously everyone is getting out of control with wild claims - many of which have been part of the software since day 1. ..... OK ....... take a deeeeep breath and RELAX!

Well stated. This is update 1.01 NOT 1.1 which means there are only going to be minor fixes. These fixes are only to fix security issues as Apple has explicitely stated it was for. The purpose of the update was to fix bugs not make enhancements to the software.

I really debated screwing with my coworkers and putting like, Sprint, Verizon, etc there..

Verizon, that's funny, I did the same exact thing as an option, but used "CJ's iPhone" instead.

Any one know what font it used for the standard AT&T logo? I used Lucida Grande...

The iPhone manual .pdf download on apple's support site is now dated 8/1/2007.

And, by the way, somebody CALLED ME while I was updating and it crashed. I had to restore.

You would think Apple would put the phone in Airplane mode during updates, as the phone obviously needs to be on to install an update and any one can call during that time and mess it up. Something pretty simple yet overlooked. Hmmmm.

.
A microphone and a speaker are essentially the same thing. It's definitely plausible. You've never used your headphones in a mic jack before?

Exchange folders

I didn't see this mentioned, the update fixes MS Exchange nested/folders issues. Now all my smart folders with rules show up and work.

If you used iFuntastic, don't install this update. I think I have to restore my phone. :/

EDIT: Had to restore phone, it's downloading a 91.2MB file. I assume the 1.0.1 package as a whole. A message informed me I will loose all my music, etc on the phone. Glad I have everything backed up...

EDIT2: All mail was lost on my iPhone, needed to redownload. I now have 70 new mails to go thru. I also lost all my voicemails on my phone, but they seemed to have downloaded as well. WiFi, Voicemail and Gmail passwords needed to be re-entered.

Man, it's horrible that you did something Apples doesn't support to your iPhone and now the update is a pain.

I think you are imagining. I just checked mine, still only one speaker and sounds liek crap when I turn it up with Bass Boost on. :)

Settle down there Beavis. As a Systems Engineer I often do things that "are not supported" and "support" them myself. I just wanted to make other folks aware that if you used iFuntastic, etc, you may have some issues. The updates I provided are the hurdles I encountered in restoring my iPhone back to the way I had it. :)

Anyone know if there is a way to filter out iPhone posts? Ever since the iPhone came out, the forums have been flooded with iPhone posts. Since I don't own an iPhone, I could care less and I'm tired of having to wade through all of the posts just to find something relevant to Mac. I remember the time when this was a website about Macs. Now it seems we have to indulge the iPhone people even though iPhone has little to do with Macs. Yeah, I know it's the same company but that pretty much all that's in common with Macs. They need to open a new website called iPhonerumors.com. To make matters worse, half of the posts don't even say "On my iPhone..." so it takes a moment when you're reading to realize that the poster is talking about his iPhone.

You COULD care less? Well if you could, then what is stopping you? Just go ahead and care a little less. What are you worried about? Does it have something to do with the Care-O-Meter losing points and Care-A-Lot breaking apart?

If so then I certainly respect that, but if you really meant that you COULDN'T care less, then please just say that in the future. :D

Same here. I still keep firefox around but haven't used it in a while. Safari 3 (with inquisitorx plugin) in just awesome.

I tried and tried to use Safari 3, but it's features just don't compare to Firefox. As of last week, I had to switch back. Being able to just start typing and go to any word on the page, AND being able to go to links just by pressing enter after (after the automatic text find), is just too valuable to give up.
