I guess my situation is odd. I was told my jet black 7 would be available in 2-3 weeks but never got any email indicating this. But I've been assured a few times that it will be there...

Got the email, then another email telling me to go to my closest store to pick up the phone. Got to the store, no phone. Apple done messed up.

After you spoke with a manager there? The regular associates didn't know much.

The Mac specialist was clueless, not her fault though. The manager came up to me and apologized for the error and took my info to have one of their business reps call me personally when the phone comes in. I'm a videogrpaher and was planning to use the iPhone 7 as a B-Camera for a shoot this week, but I couldn't' do that.

This is the kind of thing that I'd expect either money off the phone or something for a discount. That's really bad on Apple, there.

Agreed, but being a former Apple retail employee myself, there's nothing they can do and blaming them doesn't solve the problem. It's a supply chain issue that lies at the feet of corporate. I've emailed the corporate team to let them know that their process is messed up. Whether I see any results is another story. Still waiting on my phone.

Did anyone else upgrading on the upgrade program that called in the support line to give information on what phone they want get an email like the one posted below?

If you did, I'm just curious about how they contact you to set up a reservation time.
Got the same email for pick up on the 26th but ended up emailing a couple corporate email accounts and got it escalated even further and received the phone much quicker.

They have a separate list, for those where the upgrade people have told them to hold them for people. I had to show my email twice and then they were able to find it. They are only required to hold it for two days for you, that was what I was told.

This. Not the regular specialists. The box has a sticker on it and it comes that way from the factory, with your name, especially barcode, and the hold until date.

They couldn't find my name on the regular reserve list when I first got there they called a second person over who said there was a separate list and he found my name on that list.

Did you get a second email saying that your phone was ready or did you go in unprompted ?

I got an email saying I could pick it up and to show the email when I got there. I was still worried it wasn't going to be there. But after waiting until it was my turn and two people looked at the email, they found my name on a second list and brought out my phone.

So I am curious for those of you on the IUP and who did this escalation. My understanding is that people were upset because they were told they could upgrade in 12 months after 12 installments were paid?

I'm just curious... I am on Verizon's installment 12 month plan, others are on 12 month installment plans with their carriers. What makes the IUP any better than my installment plan? Why should I have to be ok with paying a 13th or 14th installment plan, but IUP customers shouldn't?

I enjoy the idea of the IUP because it gives you independence from the carrier, including an unlocked phone (great for travel), no price hike, and in theory some better service with purchasing and upgrading via Apple. The carriers are often such a mess when it comes to all of this. In reality, obviously there were some snafus, but I believe to some there was an unspoken belief that at 12 months, an upgrade would be made available to them emphasizing the annual aspect of the upgrade program. Whether apple intended it or not, their response to this makes me think that it was their intention but the carrying out portion didn't quite work out.

I was told by Apple on the phone that if you make any additional payments you will receive a gift card in the amount of payments made passed the 12th payment .... my 13th payment will be this Sunday (25th) and I was told my phone would be ready by the 26th .... we'll see what Apple says and does on Monday.

You do not have a contract with Apple for a new phone every 12 months. Actually why anybody is stupid enough to buy it with a carrier contract is beyond me. Why be tied to a contract until the entire phone is paid off. That and the iup comes with AppleCare + which provides much better support is a huge bonus.
