The last time I checked, Apple have never claimed that the iPhone was a 'camera phone'.
'Camera phone' is a generic term to describe phones which have cameras isn't it?
I don't think I've ever heard any manufacturer refer to their phone as a camera phone, it's more a consumer term I think.

More pixels is not always better. Trying to cram a bunch of mega pixels into a smaller area can have more negative effects anyway.
Why do people allways have to say its not an iCamera so it dosnt matter that the camera is crap
It dosnt have iPod in the title so can we not discuss the music/video side of things
It is not a PDA so can we not talk about the Calendar/Address book etc
Lets also ignore the internet side of things because it is mainly a phone
There really are some die hard apple fanatics on here that cannot have a bad word said
the iphone is definitely a piece of garbage. sure it takes decent photos during the day, but after 6pm it becomes completely useless.
Well .... it's better than any phone camera I've ever owned before.
*shrug*
Nothing's going to beat a full on DSLR obviously but I've seen some pretty darn good shots from a Canon Powershot in low light. That Digic III chip is very nice.Every non SLR camera is a piece of garbage after 6pm. I dont expect to take good photos with any point and shoot much less a cell phone camera. I think it serves its purpose well for taking quick snapshots but I wouldnt expect to archive those photos.

The iPhone camera is fine. If it were an iCamera phone we were talking about, it'd be quite different.
I don't need to buy a tiny P&S camera because I have an iPhone in my pocket to snap the occasional casual pic. If I'm going to be somewhere where I know I'll want to take plenty of pictures I take my camera, not just a phone.![]()
my main complaint is the amount of time it takes to boot up the damn camera
i wish that when the phone is locked, the lock button would turn into the camera button, and you'd use the home button to turn the screen back on
it's too hard taking pictures in the moment with it, imo
uhh no. 'non slr' cameras still at least have a flash, as with most other decent cellphone cameras. therefore infinitely better than the iphone camera after 6pm.
IMHO, a cell phone camera is there to snap a quick pic of something and be able to send it quickly. In that regard, the iPhone does well in lighted areas.Am I the only person who thinks the camera is alright?
This is what I can remember about the release of camera phones in the UK market.
1) Summer 2002 - Sony Ericsson T68i - The first phone I recall that had a camera. Now the camera wasn't built into the phone, it was an external attachment.
2) Autumn 2002 - Sharp GX10 - Launched by Vodafone this was when their Vodafone Live kicked off. Less than VGA sized pics and terrible quality by todays standards. It was the first phone I recall being on sale with an inbuilt camera. Vodafone also released a Panasonic model alongside. Unfortunately today, Panasonic & Sharp are no longer in the UK mobile phone market.
3) Spring 2003 - Sharp GX30 - 1 Megapixel camera plus flash with memory card storage!!
4) Autumn 2004 - Sony Ericsson V800 - 1.3 Megapixel rotating camera. One of Vodafone UK's first 3G handsets.
5) Summer 2005 - Sony Ericsson K750 - 2 Megapixel camera with Auto Focus and flash.
So this article in the OP is complete bogus!
