Isn't it a bad tradesman who blames his tools......
I have an nikon D70 a mere 6 mp and have successfully enlarged up to 46inches no worries

My iphones meesly 2 mp camera is far superior to my ex nokia 6121 classic total crud...and on a par with my nokia 6280

Bottom line it a phone it gives you adequate photos as an extra me thinks too many people want more for nothing why buy the dam thing if the camera is lousy go get one of those dam N95/96 things or others....
My 5 cents worth
Cheers:D

That's what i did, i got rid of my iPhone for a N95 8GB Black, never looked back!! the camera quality of the N95 is a million miles away from the iPhone's, and Video recording is incredible on this thing, the microphones on the N95 record some fantastic audio. I went to a Slipknot concert recently, where obviously you can't take a standalone camera in with you, the Nokia took some awesome shots and some even better videos!

If apple added a led flash, 5mp censor and video recording abilities, they would be onto a winner and i doubt it would cost them much more.

my 5 pence.

From memory, over the years I've owned (with cameras) the Sony Ericsson T68i, Orange SPV E100, SPV E200, Nokia 6600, SE K700i, Nokia 6230, SE K750i, HTC TYTN, SE K800i, SE P990i, Nokia N91, HTC Arthemis, Nokia N95 and the iPhone 3G. There may have been a few more, but I can't remember them all. Anyway, I can honestly say that the iPhone takes the worst pictures out of all of those phones except for the T68i, but even that had some options in the camera app for scene setup, lighting, etc. The E100 ran WinMo 2002, so that tells you how old some of those cameras were and WinMo are renowned for rubbish cameras.

And tell me ... how is the web browsing experience on all those phones you are mentioning ? or which of them come close to itunes / appstore/ ipod offered in the iphone ?

No phone is perfect .... some are better in certain things , some are worst .

My iphone has a camera with limitations .... oh well I can live with it

Saludos

Consider that a 20% thicker (and heavier) shell might decrease iPhone sales by more than a better camera would increase them. Plus a camera with a better lens would almost certainly reduce profits. So why would Apple want to do this?

.

That isn't really relevant - there are other reasons for that phone's form factor. If you disassemble a SE C905 it's camera assembly would fit quite happily wihin the iPhone's case. Even with the Flash, with a bit of clever motherboard rejigging.

That's what you can do with a body that's almost twice as thick. 12.9mm vs. 21mm. I love the thinness...I can't even tell it's in my pocket.

While I disagree that the camera assembly form the C905 could fit in the iPhone currently, it definitely does fit into a slim profile. I still think the iPhone's body would have to be a little bigger to accommodate.

While I don't fall into the "ZOMG!1!1 iPhone camera suxors!" crowd, I definitely think it could be better.

Heck, if you want a good camera, buy an actual camera! You can get 12MP ones for around £100 these days, that's about twice as many pixels as the best camera phone to date. I seriously hate it when people complain about the iPhone camera, it's not there for taking fantastic pictures, just quick little fun ones.

I dont understand this logic,

should Apple not do any improvements to get GPS better, If people need this facility then buy a sat nav

perhaps the best thing is not to make any more changes to the phone and just let people move to standalone bits of kit

want a better camera, buy a camera
want something changed with music/video, buy an iPod
want maps/gps improvements, buy a sat nav

I think he means now. People who complain about the camera now.

For example --
I imagine it's akin to people saying (and people have actually said this) "iPhone sucks as a video player! It only has 16 (or 8) gigs on on it!". Naturally the iPhone capacity will increase in time, but some people feel they need EVERY episode of some nerdy TV show with them AT ALL TIMES. For these people, they need something other than the iPhone, even though the iPhone is a fantastic video player, IMO.

The camera will keep getting better ... and people will just keep on complaining ;)

I agree with your example, not seen that one mentioned but it made me laugh

I just fail to see why some people have an objection to Apple making a slightly better camera, surely it would benefit all

Ya ... I imagine the camera will see a boost in the next version.

I really have a feeling the iPhone will be pimping the "HD" angle in the near future. HD screen, HD camera, the CPU, high memory count, everything in general. I dunno ... we'll have to wait and see I guess.

That makes the most sense so far in this thread.

Apple left room to improve a few secondary features in some future product cycle, and thus encourage a slightly higher percentage of customers (more than walked away from the current product because of the tiny camera lens) to upgrade, if/when that eventually ships.

Yep, and the point is that it won't actually benefit Apple to release a new version now because there isn't a notable % of potential customers who aren't buying the phone based solely on the poor camera. Some people say they switched because of the camera, but if that's actually true that's flat out stupid. If you want a GOOD camera, buy a real one, and the "poor" iPhone camera (which is comparable to many phone cameras) hardly justifies surrendering the great features like Mobile Safari for some other phone with a slightly better camera. Apple will improve the camera when they release the new version of the iPhone (again, probably around 2010), and probably improve a number of other things so that they can hold onto their marketshare when those people begin to be eligible for upgrades on their AT&T (and thereafter other networks) contracts.

Hmm, 1998, that reminds me of the Nokia 3310, oh wait that didn't have a camera... ;)
MP counts only for the size of the image, yes it's nice to have bigger images, but it's the quality that counts. From images I've seen, it doesn't take bad photos.
