Original iPhone and 3G iPhone work perfectly with my 2008 328i. I have full address book and charging. (another reported problem)

LOL

That was me that mentioned TCU dates and I was only guessing.

I though you were basing your post on something concrete

I guess no one knows at the moment :-(

Yep, that's the problem - getting hard info is difficult as Apple and BMW are both keeping their "secrets" to themselves.

It seems to me that this has been "comedy award of the century" stuff and I'm seriously thinking of starting a thread on the issues which make buying a 3G phone a bad idea until Apple sort some things out, so far we've seen a load of threads on:-

Accessory incompatibility*
Crap Bluetooth stack*
Poor battery life
Poor signal reception
Poor build quality
Loads of activation issues
Loads of backup/restore issues
Some very quirky 2.0 bugs
Yellow-hued screens

as well as all the unaddressed issues from iPhone 1 such as

No cut'n'paste
No MMS
No Adobe Flash support

Really, my Tytn II is beginning to look like a keeper:)

*As well as address book synching which is an absolute show stopper for me the 3G is NFU for me if it won't even charge (and act as an iPod) when plugged into the MOST iPod kit in my car, I'll be slightly po'd if my Arcam rDock isn't 100% compatible.

Couldn't agree more.

I was happy with my 1.1.4 iPhone TBH but like the AppStore in 2.0 but this compatibility with BMW problem is madness.

My fingers are crossed one of them sorts it out so I can keep using my 2G iPhone in my BMW.

I have an Audi Q7 as well and the 2.0 software works fine with that....go figure :-(

In all honesty I'd love to rush out and get the 3G - App Store and the UI make it a pretty good bet, but unless/until there's a fix for most of the problems I've outlined then my boring old WM6 phone is still more useful to me personally than the iPhone:(

It's such a pity as Apple really had the chance to dominate the PDA market at both personal and corporate levels with this phone and I hate BlackBerrys:D - who knows, maybe they'll fix a few of the items on my list RSN and I'll even port away from my 15 year old Vodafone contract:)

yeah, I can confirm that my Z4 cant get no address book sync... crap!
not that I use bluetooth...so not a biggie but yeah, no address book sync with 2.0 upgrade... :(

Confused - how do you sync with your Z4 apart from via Bluetooth?

no other way to sync other than bluetooth. It used to work with older software. Now it doesn't. ( with 2.0 )... I can still answer calls though, just can't use voice dial feature because it can't sync address book.

Got an E70 X5 (Oct 2007) and not tested with either iPhone or iPhone 3G. We currently have a nokia connected upto it from our previous X5. didnt think the iPhone would have worked!

FWIW, I've had no problems with the Bluetooth connection to my 2008 BMW after updating my iPhone 2G to v2.0 firmware. It never even missed a beat.

While I haven't tried charging my iPhone on the wired connection (my old iPod lives there now) 3G owners should be comforted that BMW use a USB-based connection for iPods/iPhones. There shouldn't be any charging issues as these are related to those connections that charge via Firewire.

It works just fine!

TransientWolf,

I have a 2008 X5 and had no problems pairing it with my iPhone 3G. After about a minute, all the addresses, and I have a lot, appeared on the BMW display. So no problems there. :)

Note that I have the updated firmware on my 3G that I got thru iTunes (5A347).

BMW Problems

I have a new iPhone 3G and 2007 530xi. I’ve had the BMW snap-in-adapter cradle for my Motorola RAZR about a year so I’m familiar with Bluetooth integration. I recently purchase the iPhone snap-in-adapter. As far as Bluetooth integration, I’m getting a partial phone number transfer from the iPhone to the car but there are some numbers missing on my iDrive.

The other thing I’ve noticed is that the iPhone snap-in-adapter is designed for the original iPhone, but the new iPhone is a 2mm thicker. When I used a friend’s old iPhone, it seats and ejects nicely from the snap-in-adapter. With the new iPhone 3G, you have to “man handle” the phone to insert and eject it…compared to an original iPhone. Does anyone know if BMW knows about the iPhone 3G being thicker and if there are plans for an updated snap-in-adapter?

Well well well, it was still not syncing on my drive to work this morning, but on my way back it worked fine. go figure? We'll see if it works next time.

I have an 06 E60 as I think I said earlier.

I have a new altima coupe and i could never sync my address book. Just pair etc. :(

No problems here either

No address book sync problems at all with my 2004 BMW 545i and first-generation iPhone with firmware 2.0. The car's firmware is quite recent; update was done less than 6 months ago.

Thanks for all the updates and info guys. See my email to BMW customer services and the reply from them. I will follow up with my dealer idc and report back.

Thank you for your email to BMW Customer Information.

I am sorry to hear that you are now unable to transfer the contacts to your car. Currently we have not yet had confirmation whether the iPhone 3G will be compatible with all our vehicles. The new version was released last Friday and it will undergo stringent test procedures at BMW AG. If this version is compatible, details will be shown on the Bluetooth matrix found on our website www.bmw.co.uk/bluetooth.

BMW do offer the facility to update the Bluetooth software or hardware in your vehicle. As Bluetooth evolves in mobile technology, the Bluetooth levels in our vehicles can become outdated. Upgrading the Bluetooth compatibility in your vehicle can effectively give you software levels in line with newer models, which should offer you a wider choice of handsets.

The Service Department at your nearest BMW Approved Dealership will be able to offer you further advice on the availability and cost of having a hardware or software upgrade completed. The upgrade is chargeable as it is not a manufacturing fault, if technology has moved forward since your vehicle was manufactured. The type of upgrade required will depend on the age of your vehicle and the Bluetooth platform used.

I have included a link to our dealer locator facility for your convenience.

I trust that you local dealership are in the best position to take this matter forward. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely

No problems here.

I have a 2007 335i and my contacts are set to sync with Moblie Me. All of my contacts show up on my iDrive via bluetooth as they always have.

iPhone 3G and 2007 BMW 335i

My new iPhone syncs FINE with my 2007 335i by BMW! EVERYTHING works FINE with the exception of a rare ECHO! Dont believe the BS these these NON BMW owners are saying about interfacing the 3G iPhone with the BMW's. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SPEAKING ABOUT!

I have same phone and same car (no idrive). aside from the address book not syncing, the phone gets HOT and freezes, anyone have that issue?

thanks

For what it's worth, my iphone 2G with 2.0 software works worse than it did with 1.1.4 when trying to use bluetooth on my e91 (build date July 2006)

With 1.1.4 it would pair and transfer contacts, but every time I stopped and started the car I had to delete the pairing on the car and on the phone and re-establish the connection. Annoying, but it works.

With 2.0, the pairing lasts for 10 seconds, drops for about 3 seconds, establishes again for 10 seconds (exactly 10 seconds), drops... re-establishes for 10 seconds...

Completely unusable.

3g doesn't work x5 07 and 325 converible 07

I've just tried to pair my new 3g in x5 07 and 325 convert 07 it doesn't work in both car. The phone is trying to pair but after putting pass key the phone says "could not pair.." with car. I called apple support centre the guy offered me to call local bmw. Maybe somebody know some tips how to pair this bluddy phone with my cars. Thank you in advance.

my own mistake for both cars

hi guys,
Glad to inform you that both above mentioned my cars've paired with 3g iphone . Futhermore all contacts have syncronised. Before pairing swich off wifi and go on. Previously I tried to put one figure for passkey for pairring when I put 4 figures the phone paired immediately but contacts sync took about 2-3 minutes.
Good luck
