Contacts syncing fine after last iTunes update

Until a couple weeks ago my 3g iphone contacts wouldnt sync with my 2007 BMW 335i (no idrive). Then the most recent iTunes update was released, and since then (last week some time), my contacts suddenly started showing up! It still doesnt work as flawlessly as before with the original iphone running 1.1.4, but that iTunes update must have done something...... 2.0.1 didnt give me any noticeable improvements.... anyone else notice an improvement after the recent itunes update?

I have a 07 335i with idrive with a recent firmware upgrade and have no problems with my Iphone 3g 2.0.1.

If you guys are having problems using bluetooth to your bmw, id recommend having the BMW dealer upgrade the firmware in your idrive system, that will probably fix the problem.

The whole iDrive/iPhone success/failure issue seems to vary wildly between models, model years, equipment level, day of the week, whether there's and R in the month &etc. There seems to be no way to co-ordinate collection of data on this at the moment - I may do something on a website if I have time.

In the meantime I've written to BMW GB to see if they can make a coherent response other than "BMW only support iPhone 2G s/w versions 1.1.3 and 1.1.4"

Online survey to gather some decent data, hopefully is now available here

Thanks. Done.

My 650 went into the dealer yesterday for a check over prior to my 4000 mile roadtrip across Europe :D They said they had 3 customers waiting on this and as of now BMW don't have a solution for software 2.0 and above.

Helpful not.

Just tried pairing my 2004 530d to a colleagues brand new 3G (2.0.1) with exactly the same result - pairs, does not synch and drops the connection and re-connects every 20 seconds.

2006 X5

This is odd. My 2006 X5 (no idrive) has been synced perfectly with both versions of the phone. Address book included. Im wondering if the problem is with the idrive?

well today i had my car looked at by bmw, they found no faults found and after much arguing with the service manager they decided to flash my bluetooth module to the latest software.

it was agreed that if the upgrade worked they would charge me half and hour trade price labour but if it didn't work they would charge me nothing....

unfortunately it didn't make any difference, they are now saying that i will need a new bluetooth module for it to work, i didn't explain that this worked on my previous iphone but apparently it shouldn't have ????

my bluetooth module is from march 07 (build date) even though 1st reg was 09 sept 07 WTF? so their saying that i will need to buy a new module for this to work properly!!

the service guy is going to talk to bmw warranty on my behalf and see what they can sort out, hopefully there do a 50/50 deal so i can have my phone working properly with my car again.

i cannot believe how shocking this is!! i also go moaned at for reading forums (seriously who do they think they are) will update when i get a call back early next week.

so is it an apple fault or bmw, im now thinking it would be easier for apple to do something with the bluetooth stack to sort this? does anyone know if there are any differences between the old and new iphone bluetooth????

cheers

2.0 - 2.0.2 all work fine on my E66 745 with Progman28 installed. I get address book downloaded when I enter the car and caller ID / etc all work.

My 2005 BMW 5 series works perfectly with my iPhone on 2.0.2: the address book syncs up, and it's never dropped a call

I can confirm the E70 syncs perfectly. Signal can be shoddy sometimes, but its not often it drops. Still good overall.

I've been on the e60 forums, I don't think theres been any clear trend as to what works and what doesnt.

I have a 2007 530i and my iPhone 3G with 2.0.2 pairs and the contacts transfers and voice dialing works as well.

The results of my survey (240+ responses so far and OK, they need proper analysis) are inconclusive except insofar as it is definitely v2.0+ causing the problems.

2006 330xi with iDrive and GPS (American).
Have not had any firmware updates on the iDrive since purchase.
Bluetooth works perfectly with iPhone 3G (2.0.1 and 2.0.2) and with original iPhone (up through 1.1.4).
Names & numbers sync without problem. No echos on audio.

I need some help with this too. I have a 2005 e46 and am getting stuck to the 'please wait' screen after having successfully paired my iphone 3G to my bluetooth. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks!

On my 2007 BMW 530xi, with an iPhone 3G version 2.1, Bluetooth integration works but the problem I continue to have is that not all my contacts are available from my iDrive. So for some phone numbers, I actually have to pull up the contact directly from my iPhone and initiate a call that way versus pulling up a contact via iDrive. This is not always the case, most of my contacts appear on my iDrive but several are missing. I'm not sure if it's relevant, but I'm using Apple's MobileMe to sync contacts via push.

In the next few days, I plan to erase all the contacts on my iPhone then add them back via a MobileMe push/sync. Then I will break the Bluetooth connection with my BMW and reestablish it. I hope this works.

I'm also one of these people patiently waiting for a new BMW snap-in-adapter for my iPhone 3G. My current snap-in-adapter is for the iPhone 2G.

I am a dedicated PC person and have been seriously considering a change to Mac, but from what I've seen with the problems on the iPhone and the massive problems with MobileMe, there is no way in hell I'm going to trade one set of problems with Microsoft applications (I've learned to work around their issues) and take on a new set of applications from Apple.

Have you tried Scoopz's solution (instructions from the the link at post #73 in this thread)? If not, have a try at that - a lot of people are reporting success with it.

My car won't even pair with the 3G (pairs/drops-re-pairs every 15 seconds or so) so you're well ahead of me. This is clearly an Apple problem as my old WM6 phone and a friend's Nokia N95 pair just fine. However, as yet, Apple have totally failed to address or even acknoweldge this problem:mad:. My local BMW dealer is getting so many enquiries and they're just as pissed off about it as their customers.

Not a great advert for Apple (now, just where is Sir Ridley Scott:D)
