It is your right to believe in what you want :). I am telling you that with my usage (which is rather specific and not typical) this phone can last 5 days.

And in terms of exaggerated claims well people get what they deserve. When iOS users that have never used Android talk to me how iOS is awesome, no bug and offers the best battery life out there I can only laugh. Tunnel vision at its finest.
The problem is that right now you are talking to someone who’s been using android phones for over 10 years ( Samsung, LG, Sony, Huawei, Honor, Oneplus, Xiaomi etc) And the best battery life on any android is probably Huawei/Honor because of their aggressive ram management. And yet even those phones can’t do 5 days on a single charge

Do you use the phone like me? In normal usage it cannot do 5 days for sure! My specific and weird (for normal person) usage changes the perspective. On average per day I get around 1 hour of screen time. Sometimes even less. I spend most of my time around tablets and computers and they get used far more than the phone around me.

During trips and being outside the phones get used more (for camera) to take photos and then I can kill them for less than a day. But this happens once every 4-5 months. So I don't count it as my typical usage.

I have not used Huawei and Honor so I cannot compare them to what I had with my Sony. My mother has Huawei but her screen time is more like 5-6 hours a day so I cannot compare it to my usage.

Also over time, Samsung phones tend to get bogged down
Spot on, people in Australia were complaining about lag 3 days into owning their s21u, can't believe they were restoring their phones so soon. 🤦‍♂️😂 Agree with you better off sticking with stock android, samsung is trash.

Samsung is basically giving their s21 line up away for free here in Australia, what's the matter samsung no one wants your exynos garbage. 😂

Giving customers free vouchers on newly released smartphones, desperate times Samsung. 🤔😂 $50 sign up voucher, what is this Costco. Loyalty voucher. 🤦‍♂️😂

Lol, out of all their trade in offers, they offer the most $ for iPhones, even Samsung knows their phones are trash. 😂

Not a good look when you’re offering more money for your competitors phones than your own phones.

A few hours isn't destroying the competition?🤦‍♂️😂 that is a huge difference.
Of course. For you, I would say that at the end of the day I would maybe have 25% on the Note 10+, and on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, around about 40%. And that’s using the Note for film and TV and Zoom calls and using the IPhone for everything else.

You seem to have a real chip on your shoulder about Samsung. Have they burned you in the past?

Yep, poor customer service, terrible battery life, phone lag, a ton of other issues, safe to say I’ll never buy another Samsung phone ever again.

This would just be a simple software update to correct this, maybe this has already been implemented. Isn’t Samsung 2nd to Apple, so clearly not trash. It is interesting to note, that in the US, the likes of Sony, Huawei et al aren’t even sold there, so consumers are limited on their choice of a phone.

According to Techradar the best phone is actually the Samsung S21 Ultra, with the iPhone 12 at 3 and the 12 Pro Max at 5. This is only one source checked and accurate to the end of February.

Maybe get out there and have a go with other devices.

I’ll stick with iPhone, even with software updates and restoring the phone, Samsung phones are prone to lagging after a short period of time, and battery drain has always been a issue with Samsung.

I’d agree with customer service, it isn’t great. You’re wrong about battery life, I rarely experienced lag, I get lag on the 12 Pro Max, that is just a thing with phones, dependent on what you’re doing. You should check out the upcoming OnePlus 9 Pro. A real powerhouse, with Hasselblad technology.

Never say never

If I was going to try a android phone, most likely be a pixel, heard they’re the most consistent phone compared to iPhone. Shame about their crap processors though, need to go back to flagship processors.

Good to see Samsung has fixed their camera and heat issues. What a joke 🤷‍♂🤦‍♂️😂

Someone please tell me again how much better Samsung is these days. 🤦‍♂️

guess this explains why Samsung doesn’t use their exynos is back chip 🤦‍♂️😂 in their own country.

Always on display isn’t a deal breaker but it’s nice to have. To be able to see if I have any notifications at the glance of the screen without having to pick it up. Also being able to display images on the screen all the time is a nice touch, also music controls that stay on the AOD all the time. You don’t need to life up the phone. It’s just there and ready to go.

I have to ask...: Have you ever considered an Apple Watch...? All those things you mentioned are much more handy (no pun intended) on the watch. With the watch there’s really no point of an AOD, as I see it...

I already have an Apple Watch lol. Had one since it first came out. Sometimes I miss notifications on my watch if I’m busy or occupied. Now I have to lift up my wrist, wake the AOD and scroll through my notifications to see what’s there. An always on display requires minimal effort on my part. The only effort is to glance at the screen. I don’t have to use my hands unless I want to interact with the notifications. However as I said it’s not a deal breaker. I can wait until it comes to the iPhone.

I see... Just FYI, in case you didn’t know, the Apple Watch series 5 and 6 have AOD... I have a series 4 myself (a flip of the wrist wakes the watch). I use it all the time. My phone is not attached to my hand, so I, for one, find it really useful to get my notifications on the watch (which is literally tied to my hand 😛).

Ok so I thought that with the iPhone 12 Pro I have lost the NFC connectivity stuff but it seems not to be the case. Stupid question on my part but are iPhones 12 considered officially to support NFC? I know that the iPhone uses sort of NFC to recognize the color of the smart cases and for Apple Pay but I thought that it is customized Apple implementation that would not work with general NFC devices. Well not the case as just today by chance I saw that the iPhone manages to turn on the Sony WH-1000 XM3 by touch. It did not connect to them automatically for some reason but it definitely turns them on. So is this just some fluke or it is a feature of the iPhone that I just obviously missed.

Yeah for normal people I see what you mean about the notifications. I exclude myself from the group of normal people because for me those notifications can distract me so I tend to not want to see them. About the music I see what you mean.

To be fair I have not tried it on a phone either. I have tried on my iPP 11 inch and I compare it to my 6th gen iPad. I do not see difference. It must be something subtle but I really do not see it.
I can definitely see 120hz refresh rate and even 90hz. I have a iPhone 11 Pro Max (60Hz of course), Huawei P40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro (both 90hz) and iPad Pro 11 2020 (120hz).

I can see the difference between the 60 and 90hz and between 60 and 120hz, but between 90 and 120hz it’s less clear as both are just ridiculously smooth.

HOWEVER with the above said, I still enjoy the 60Hz of my iPhone as the iPhone still has a high touch rate which already made it feel smoother versus other 60Hz phones, so moving between all my devices I don’t feel a negative impact but I do notice the difference.

Do we need 120hz on a phone? I don’t think so, I think it’s cool to have, I did try the S20U in store and set it to 1080P and 120hz refresh and it was incredibly smooth but it wasn’t a “I MUST HAVE THIS” moment in all honesty, I would actually be happy with 90hz in the next iPhone, I think that makes the most sense, my Huaweis feel outstanding to use when scrolling, so I don’t think Apple need to go the full hog to 120hz, but if they do I will appreciate it, but I think 90hz will be the sweet spot mixed with higher touch sample rate. :)

All these smartphones are so damn good at this point.

Something I miss is RGB notification LEDs, I remember having those on my Nokia Symbian phones, in a BB Curve 8900 as well as on my first Android the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 🤣
Notifications LEDs are super underrated, you set it to the colour you want for each app and then you know whether to bother lifting the phone or not and they didn’t use any battery/very minimal power usage.

This is my first login to this forum in 10 years or so. The last iPhone I had was a 3GS. I remember being really disappointed with the first iPhones after all the hype. No 3G in early models when we'd had 3G on every phone for years at that time in the UK.

I switched to Android after that because the iPhone seemed so behind. Well, after about 10 years of Androids and getting each new Sony/Samsung (or LG at one point) and setting up my home screens to look almost the same I decided I wanted a change and that I'd try an iPhone again.

I'm not an fanboy of either Android or iPhone, I'm not what you'd call a 'power user' (or whatever the term is these days), not an expert by far - but I know my way around a bit more than the basics of an Android/iPhone/Windows/Mac/Linux.

My honest opinion is that a flagship iPhone and a flagship Android are on a par and it's pretty much personal preference.

Coming from an S21 Ultra 5G to my new iPhone 12 Pro Max wasn't actually as much of a jump as I thought it would be. (By the way, I never had any problems or lag with the S21 Ultra.)
My very first impression of the iPhone was - oh my god what have I done? At first switch on, with the change in resolution and the lack of ability to change the homescreen grid size, it looked like one of those special phones for the elderly where all the buttons are massive. But now that my eyes have adjusted I'd actually say I prefer the iPhone.

The main things I've noticed are...

The camera, even though it's technically inferior, is much better for video recording on the iPhone. The S21 U has 8K video and all the bells and whistles - yet on the iPhone camera the video quality somehow looks so much better, in just 4K!

The battery... How? My S21, with a bigger battery would finish the day on about 30% and would need charging overnight. The battery on the 12 Pro Max is amazing, I can charge it at 6pm and it'll go overnight on standby then all through the next day and get to the following evening with 50% left. It's amazing!

I didn't think that the 120Hz refresh made a difference and wasn't bothered about it. But when I first used the iPhone, it seemed so, so jerky and stuttery. It was insane how bad it looked in comparison. My eyes have adjusted somehow and I don't see it anymore. But it was a huge shock at first.

Mobile signal - It's much better on the iPhone, no idea why. But I get much better signal in a lot of places. Same network and no extra available bands.

I thought I'd be bothered by not being able to poke around in the file system - I'm not, I can pretty much do everything I want to without needing that.

Some of the default apps aren't as good on the iPhone. I shamefully found myself installing Google Calendar today. Apple maps is very slow, but useable and I'm using it.

But there's nothing I really miss from Android, which I didn't think would be the case when I made the leap. Like I say, they're definitely on a par these days.

I'm kind of getting a bit tempted into getting a MacBook again now, which is totally what they want! But I'm resisting because I splashed out £2,500 odd on a windows laptop not too long ago and can't justify it!

Just addressing #3. If you continually allow your phone to discharge to 30-40% your batteries life span will be much less that what it should be.

Agree with everything you said here. Regarding tje MacBook, the M1 is an incredible laptop, and I can tell you with some certainty that if you do get one, you will get hooked to the iPhone and the rest of their ecosystem too. I find so many things that irritate me about them iPhone, but overall, like you, I’m ok. The one thing that makes it very unlikely I’ll switch back to Android is just how good the integration between the MBP and the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. My 16GB MBP 13” M1 is quicker and can have more apps open than the ‘20 Dell XPS 17 with 8 core i7, 64GB RAM, dedicated graphics card, etc. It makes no sense, but it just is that good.

This is what I thought about too. 60hz on an iPhone is so much more smooth than 60hz on Android so I wouldn't be surprised if Apple decides to go with 90hz. It'll probably be no difference than the 120hz on my S21U.

Considering how smooth iPhones are with 60hz, don’t see any point in adding 120hz to iPhones, not going to notice a difference on such a small display, only reason android have 90-120hz is because they lag and are nowhere near as smooth as iOS, good luck getting them to admit it though.
