I have tried the Samsung and Microsoft one, and I have to say that the Apple Pencil is a far satisfying experience...

I owned the larger iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and while I do agree that it's operates more smoothly than the surface book/pro and possibly the samsung line. To me it's about use cases.

On a phone, as with how many use the note. I'd 9/10 use any pencil to take... notes and with that in mind. The Apple pencil would already be eliminated for me due to it not attaching to the phone.

Apple “Magic” will somehow reduced the dimensions of the Apple Pencil. It would be interesting nonetheless to see how it is implemented :)

Not sure why Apple did not have the Pencil magnetically attach to one of the side of the iPad Pro, maybe that is coming with the Pencil 2.0 with longer battery life and a female lightening port for charging or the W2 chip for pairing.

I'm sure that Apple and others will be selling cases with a pencil slot.

I have seen the 3rd party cases with a slot for the Pencil, and I have tbh, most don’t look good at all. Some have it nicely tucked away behind the iPad when not in use and is not visible, other have this attached that resemble some odd growth on the side of the iPad.

"Different cases, different 'Apple dictated' solutions" (needed to fix that for you)

You just explained why I'm not a customer of Apple any longer. This dictating of what they want, instead of what customers (I) want. You said, "you don't need creativity on a phone". That may be your opinion, but its not everyone's. Apple says, "you don't need touch or a pen/pencil/stylus/stick/etc. on your computer", so you need to buy an iPad if you want to use that. Why sell me one $1000 device when they can sell me two, or wait... three! Good for them... except no, thankfully there are other companies selling this stuff.

I’m not defending apple here, I’m actually in the process of moving away from iOS myself as well towards other manufacturers that still innovate and think like apple once did, and the points you mention are part of the reason too. But one can do that much with the tiny screen of a phone. You cannot really sketch/draw on a phone because of the screen real estate, hence not much to gain from a stylus there. Even the apps that directly benefit from a stylus are not available for iphone anyway.

On a computer screen, though, is another story. But that functionality would require a partial redesign of macOS and clearly apple is not willing to do that. It’s definitely a shame to get all this gorgeous (and expensive) iMac, with all this 4k and 5k screens equipped, and having absolutely no such functionality.

Having said all that, though, it is a bit weird that apple pen is not working for all ios screens and is deliberately limited to work only on ipads.
