If it's bought under any installment/lease plans, it's locked until it's been paid off. I can confirm it as somebody who has just paid off an iPhone 6S Plus on T-Mobile. The phone was locked: I tried an AT&T sim-card and it didn't work. They issue an unlock automatically when your balance is paid off. You need to restore the phone to unlock it.All U.S. iPhones are unlocked, carrier or not
Just remember this simple rule:
T-mobile/AT&T iPhone can work on T-mobile/AT&T interchangeably, but can NOT work on Verizon/Sprint
Verizon/Sprint iPhone can work on any

That's probably only true for Verizon phones. T-Mobile phones are not unlocked if they are not paid off. I assume the same goes for AT&T as well.My friend is on a Verizon installment plan, his iPhone works just fine with my T-mobile SIM. Care to explain?
It is required to provide your account info: you type in your number and last 4 digits of of the account holder's SSN.If ordering thru Apple store online do u require to have a Verizon account to order a Verizon iPhone? Some say yes some say no. I’m in the similar boat as OP, I want to order a VZ model but I’d settle for T-Mobile gsm unlocked version if they require me to have a VZ account.

only at the Apple StoreI have a 7+ in the Apple IUP with T-mobile as my carrier and want to get the iPhone X as early as I can. I've heard that it might be difficult or impossible to pre-order online if T-mobile is your carrier. Can anybody confirm whether current IUP members can pre-order on T-mobile?
You can with the apple store app or on their site, it's that you can't if you are joining for the first time.only at the Apple Store

[doublepost=1508790117][/doublepost]So i called tmobile like 5 times and apparently they all seem to be working together at my location. I had three ladies picked up from San Antonio(which is where I am from) and they were kind rude. One of the ladies was able to give me information about the down payment and when I called again a different lady picked up telling me that she doesnt have any information about the down payment or anything. Which is stupid because she said "I realized you just called one of my coworkers and she's actually one next to me." What made me more upset was I told her "So you're telling me that you cant provide me a down payment price but your coworker next to you told me what it was." I thought that was crazy how this company don't know s***.
Where are you getting your information that all U.S. iPhones are unlocked? A few years back I had an iPhone 6 and I wanted to switch over to t-mobile. The t-mobile rep put a t-mobile sim and the phone said something like "Unsupported SIM". I had to get the phone unlocked and then I was able to use it with T-Mobile.
