So the A11 is apparently not strong enough for iOS according to Apple: (iPhone X has 3GB, A11)

But the 6th gen iPad, an A10 with only 2GB Ram also gets iPadOS 17:

Doesn't Make sense, if A10 iPad can do lock screen customizations, why couldn't the iPhone 7 do it? The same applies to the 8 and X, iOS 17 was a minor update and Apple didn't need to drop support for more devices after dropping 6s and 7 in iOS 16. Sad that iPhones have a shorter software support life than iPads.

It doesn‘t have to make sense.
Apple may or may not drop support for devices as they please. They‘ve done that in the past and they will do that in the future.

I would have liked to use my X as a beta testing device, but here we are…

Apple did the same in iOS 16 for iPhone 7 and iPad 5. This is Apple’s playground and Apple sets the rules.

Same thing happened last year with the iPhone 6S and 7 being dropped but the iPad 5th gen being supported, despite being equal to the 6S and slower than the 7.

It’s obvious that someone sits and decides the supported models without any reference to the technical ability of said devices to run the software.

I’m an iPhone 8 user and feel betrayed. I love my home button with fingerprint reader!

IMO Apple has been snubbing the iPhone X for years with increasing severity since iOS 14, this is the just the final ultimate snub. I'd understand if there was a technical reason but if both A10 and A12 are supported I don't see why A11 is barred.

Just like last year, I have the same theory: battery life. iPads can cope a lot better with their larger batteries, whereas the iPhone 6s has been obliterated by iOS 15.
iOS 17 may have been too much for the A11 and small battery combo.

Even no iPad 6 gets iPad OS 17 keep in mind that it will be a vary limit of iPad os 17 wish mean you won’t get all futures if even any in fact you can kiss iPad 6 and may be 7 with iPad OS 18 next year

Which is why the SE exists. Also you've had 6 years of being on the newest version, that's 2-3 times as long as a comparable android device.

I seriously lamented the end of my iPhone 6s Plus and beloved TouchID when I upgraded to the 11 Pro Max; but FaceID won me over pretty quickly. One way or another, we all must forge ahead.

I guess there is nothing like opencore legacy patcher for iOS, upon searching I just find Cydia apps which mimic iOS features. As some others have said I am disappointed, it’s only been 5.6 years since its release, and personally 3 years since I ordered mine from apple refurbished. Didn’t 7 years of OS updates used to be the standard?
I’m not going to waste money and discard my well functioning X
