Yeah. TL;DR: we don't know. And the pics I've seen don't really persuade me that there's a problem. In particular, another thread had pics that looked like someone had tried to clean up their space gray iPhone X with a belt sander. It's hard to feel much concern about something like that.
Oh...you mean the "flaking" thread? Heh...don't get me started!! :D

I really wish Consumer Reports (or someone similarly unbiased) had done scratch tests on the SBSS and iPhone X with Mohs picks.
Hopefully someone at Apple will spill the beans one day soon so we can all quit wondering.

Help me out if I'm missing it, but I don't see that on the Apple web site. I *thought* I'd seen it recently, but I just checked and can't find any mention of DLC for the SS SB.

For whatever reason, Apple removed the DLC information for the Series 2 Space Black Apple Watch on their website. However, I recall the thread where another member contacted Apple and they confirmed the DLC coating is still used on the Space black model. It's incredibly durable. Wore my space black Apple Watch today.

Going back to some of my earlier posts, on watch hobby forums you can see pictures of DLC watches and PVD (should we say "other PVD"?) watches and the difference is really notable. The DLC finish wears really well. PVD finishes show wear on the edges and high points and where there have been scrapes or impacts. (And to Fischersd's point above, I don't recall ever seeing pics of any of the "flaking.") We're sort of in the meta-discussion phase here so I think I'll sink slowly into the weeds on this thread. :D
