Id hardly count five words as lengthy but fair enough, I don’t think anything refutes popular belief. People will believe whatever people choose to believe, regardless of how ludicrous a notion it may be.

I was talking about your justification of getting the X regardless of kinks and flaws. I can feel your buyer’s remorse and I don’t even know you. But, your decision ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You’re right, they didn’t. And they never claimed they did. What they said was they gathered a billion images.

They also took images from many different angles and distances. So no, they didn’t need a billion different faces to do that. How many they did use is anyone’s guess, it’s not been made public.

But its supposedly 3D and doesn't work with images, so how would a billion images work? Will be interesting to see this roll out.

Then you’re severely lacking in your ability to detect what a person thinks of anything. I could not be more excited about the X, my wife would tell you I’ve been like a big kid before Christmas morning. Hell my time to pick it up tomorrow is 2:30, I’m going at 12:00, I’d go sooner but I have to wait on my wife finishing work because she wants to go too.

Having the ability to isolate and acknowledge a products potential shortcomings doesn’t preclude you from being excited for it. If anything it prepares you for the reality of ownership prior to the fact, resulting in less or no disappointment. There isn’t a product on the planet that couldn’t be improved upon, or have you discovered the ever elusive perfect phone that you will not replace regardless of what future changes occur?

You’re also conveniently choosing to overlook where I mention that I have no doubt that any of the minor shortcomings which can be improved upon will be quickly resolved.

Considering some of the work I’ve been doing for over 20 years, spotting potential issues with a product is just second nature. It happens almost subconsciously and frankly I wouldn’t want it any other way. It’s the single most important thing that has ensured I’ve very rarely been disappointed with any purchase I’ve made for rather a long time now.

Don’t presume to project your own insecurities onto anyone else. One would assume that’s what it must be at least, for it to be playing so heavily on your mind that you imagine you see it in people you know nothing of from a few words written on the internet.

It’s a good question. I wouldn’t object to a bit more insight into the process. Though I doubt we’ll get it.
I keep telling myself I’m going to read the white-paper to see if there’s mention of it there, but I’ve yet to get round to it.

The video seems to make the phone look much larger than in reality. (Everything looks distorted.)

I wouldn’t know how to do this but think a hands on video such as this would be improved with more accurate perspective. (If that’s the right term.)

Also, for what it’s worth, I don’t like the intro music used, which reminds me of an annoying alarm or ringtone meant to grab attention rather than sound pleasing.

Edit: rewatched the video. Also don’t like having background music playing at the same time as talking.

Jesus, you must really admire yourself talk. Most of what you write are assumptions over what you think I said or who I am. A good day to you too.

Hey iPhone Notch, can you do this?

Yeah, it was the bit just before the supermarket when he started talking about the bright sunlight for me, I damn near spat my coffee out. And I do NOT like to waste coffee, not even the cheap horrible stuff you get at Starbucks.

Now, ok, fair enough I don't know how tall Nilay is. He may be a person of short stature (is that what we call midgets these days? I lose track of all of that PC arse gravy, it's forever changing :p) for all I know. But were talking about a device designed to operate within 10 - 20 inches, so probably 15 being the sweet spot.

I'm 6 foot 3" and on me, where he's holding it is a lot more than 20 inches from my eyes. In direct sunlight, with a quick glance, while strutting down the street.

Really Mr Patel? That's your testing methodology for something? Put it just enough outside of it's defined operational parameters so that it fails but doesn't look too obvious. Yeah, that gives me complete faith in your impartiality, not to mention your usefulness as a product tester and opinion giver.
And before anyone makes a crack and we all know you will, I've been professionally testing pre-release products for over 20 years. It takes a little bit more, let's say for simpleness, actions grounded in reality than that particular "test" to cut it.

I mean for God's sake, I'm not expecting it to be perfect, I'm not even expecting it to be quicker or always as convenient as Touch ID. But give me a break.

**Edit**

I've just realised I've not taken my morphine this morning, oops. That, the fact I’ve not slept for three days and a distinct lack of coffee in this damn house may be making me ever so slightly grumpier than usual. Just a tad, a wee bit, minuscule even :D

Oh, and obviously if Nilay does happen to be 4 foot 2", then I take back everything I just said.

Wow, people still do that with them? Weird :p

Why the hell would height have anything to do with it? You really do sound like you’re on drugs.

I have been using “Assistive Touch” since long. It helps a lot getting around things. And will not affect the way i use phone.

I’d have thought that was pretty obvious. The shorter you are the less distance there is between your eyes and your waist, or your head and your waist if you like. And yes, I am on a ridiculous amount of medication, though it didn’t stop me from spotting basic mathematics.

Sure, but why not maximize whatever non-notch space you do have for content on the X?

Then the video will not be 16:9. In fact the video you take from the X will itself have huge bezels when displayed on that phone. I am not sure if the video player will adjust it to fill the whole screen. Even if it does there will be loss of information at the long edge. I think this whole obsession of bezelless screen is ok as long as the phone is 16:9 which is a standard.

Here we go again... a flood of iPhone X reviews and observations.
How about other news?
Aren’t you excited about your new iPhone X? Maybe not, but others are.

Anyway, it may come as a surprise to you, but the mix of articles isn’t selected to cater to your exact wishes—don’t be so self-centered. Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but it’s not all about you.

Do we also get a new batch of emojis?
That actually came with iOS 11.1 that came out a few days ago.

I ordered 4 cases all clear to show off the silver iPhone X, I can tell you right now that holding the case in my hands feels perfect, now my iPhone 7 Plus just feels ridiculous, I’m so excited my iPhone has been sitting in NJ since Monday, I have friends at Fedex so I should have it before 12pm on Friday
I always thought the Plus was way too big. But I bought it because of the better camera (that I rarely use-lol) I'm excited to go back down to a better size! #sizedoesmatter

I did get a Chase banking app update that stated "Users with eligible devices can now use Face ID to log on". So there must have been some change somewhere it wasn't seamless. Or they had to change some wording in the settings. Who knows.
FYI, I test mobile apps for a financial institution and we currently are disabling FaceID to perform a smoke test for security reasons. I would imagine other banks are doing the same.

i didn’t day i’m not excited, but there’s more to talk about and report than the iPhone X.
After all, this site it’s called MacRumors, not iPhoneRumors.

Ok, but it’s not a zero sum proposition; we’re not getting less other news so they can publish more articles about the X; were getting all the news/rumors they have, there’s just a lot about the X right now since it’s launching tomorrow.

If there are 25 articles, with 10 about the X and 15 other, why would it make any sense to only publish 20 articles, with only 5 on the X and 15 other?

The X is what is driving a lot of the traffic and hits. If you don’t want to read about it, don’t click on the article. But don’t expect MacRumors to hold back articles on the X just because you don’t want to read some headlines you’d rather not see.

So you just showed up to MacRumors less than two months ago, and now are acting as some sort of moderator?
You gotta be out of your mind, dude.
As your name says: pick your poison, but keep it to yourself.

Well that's the thing with faces.. they are all different. Perhaps it doesn't work as well with his face. There have been a lot of discussions that say FaceID is a tiny Kinect on the front of the phone. Anyone remember Kinect being called racist because it couldn't see people with dark skin? We'll find out after its used for a few weeks, but I still expect this not to go as smoothly as Apple is portraying. Hopefully I'm wrong, because that is a lot of money to spend on something if it proves to not work well.

How did your predictions turn out? ;)
