I'm gonna wait to see what Dark Mode is like on my X and decide from there if it's a big enough deal for me.

I use it like night shift. It comes on from sunset to sunrise. It looks great on the OLED, but it should be fine on the LCD.

I was worried about this coming form the X moving to the 11 but I enjoy dark mode on the Liquid Retina LCD display on my iPad Pro, looks great.

I’m considering purchasing a 128gb 11 rather than a 64gb 11 Pro as a upgrade of my X. I had a look at the XS v XR screens and didn’t think there was a massive difference, not £320 worth of a difference. The extra storage space would be welcome.

Here's my thinking...i have an X 256GB. I just upgraded to an 11 256GB through Verizon. After trade in of my phone, total cost of the 11 is $489. A bargain. Now, next year, if an all new redesigned phone comes out, I will have the 11 to trade and its value would probably be around $400. So to me its a win/win. My son has the XR so I know what the screen will look like and to be honest, I don't see a difference between the OLED and LCD screens. The only thing i will possibly miss is the telephoto lens but we will see how that pans out on a day to day basis. After reading the reviews today and reading about the camera improvements, I couldn't resist.

Im in agreement with you on this.

I will be upgrading.

The Pro - you get better screen, build quality and camera. Anything else? I will say the Pro looks super premium and very fresh.

My wife has an XR and honestly the display looks great. I can only assume it would look equally as good or better on the 11. I wouldn’t let the display keep you from upgrading as I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I went from a X to a XR last time and have been really impressed with the phone. Battery life is amazing; screen is just as good as the X (blind tests have shown this too).

I've missed the 2x zoom as I found it useful for taking photos when out running in the hill. And I do prefer a smaller phone, but apart from that, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the XR (now 11).

What blind tests are you referring to? I went and compared and 11 side by side with a pro, and for the life of me, I can barely see any difference. The pro has a slightly yellower tint and has an almost imperative amount of more detail in dark areas, but I need to strain to see the difference. Is it just me or am I blind?

I went from the X backwards to a 7+ because I have the X to my wife. I was going to buy an ax’s Max but just waited two weeks to get the Pro Max because at the time the XS Max would have been the same price as the Pro Max. Is the X trash? Absolutely not. The X is still in my opinion a great iPhone. The big thing for me was obviously the bigger screen.

i love the Pro Max. But if you are happy with the X and don’t want to upgrade keep it. Very good phone.

Debating doing something similar myself

Worse display, but bigger battery, larger screen, newer phone, wide lens and more storage

I fully intend to upgrade next year, whereas the next 12 months i can get the above benefits for £40 a month in IUP, trade in 12 months time if I really like what they show off

Better battery life and wide angle lens is upgrade worthy from the X. OLED isn’t a big deal to most. It has tap to wake and dark mode. Can’t go wrong there.

I think I’m actually going to give my 11 back and get the Pro, the 11 Is jsut bigger than what I like, the X was jsut the perfect size for me

My initial plan was X —> 11, but the size was the deal breaker. The X is probably my personal Max for size/thickness.

I went into a local store and compared the XR screen side by side with the XS and I honestly struggled to see any difference that made one better over the other. I too am considering upgrading from my X to a 11 and forgetting about the 11 Pro. I’ll buy on the IUP here in the U.K. and if next year I’m impressed with the new iPhone I’ll upgrade to that. Buying the 11 saves me £16 per month and also gives me 128gb rather than sticking with only 64gb.
You need to get your eyes checked.

Agreed, I dread next year if the rumours of 5.4/6.1/6.7 being the 3 sizes

5.8 is just perfect

The SE followed by the X are my two favorite iPhones to date. I would welcome 5.4 :)

I had never handled a XR, so I didn’t realize how much thicker the 11 would be. It was pretty shocking. I use my phones naked, and as soon as I picked up the 11 I knew I wasn’t going to upgrade.

Yeah similar to myself, I know I wanted to upgrade for few different reasons, but the 11 is jsut too big size wise and even heavier than I’d like worked out fo an extra £8 a month I can have the Pro and go back to a size I’m comfortable with

People like you will never get it.

I spend my life living in the real world . You on the other hand get satisfaction from insulting people on the internet.

Maybe take a walk and get some fresh air. The world is beautiful. Don’t be consumed by your negativity.

For most people this is a valid point. A stranger can hardly give you useful advice as they are not aware of your use cases and you’re simply attempting a minor upgrade that you will potentially not even notice that much day to day anymore.

You’re getting negative feedback on a discussion forum because you seek the public. Not everyone will like what you’re doing. Not every feedback will be glowingly positive.

As a shareholder, I can but hope you buy as many phones as possible. Being a user of a two-year old device myself and living in the real world myself it’s my impression that a growing number of users keep their devices much longer than the two years from the past. You’re not missing much anymore.

Is Dark Mode going to be issued/available to pre 11 phones. I thought only the phones released this year would have it.
Thanks.

You need to get your eyes checked.

I must need to get my eyes checked too because i know a few people with XR's and compared it side by side with my Max and the difference is minuscule. Only way to tell a real difference is if you're actively looking for it which most people aren't doing. For normal daily use the display is fine even dark mode looks good on it. Yes dark mode is a bit "darker" on OLED but unless you're carrying 2 phones everyday comparing which again..most people aren't doing you wont even notice.

To me, the most interesting comparisons are when you ask someone who knows nothing about the tech specs to compare the two screens. I had someone with a XS do that earlier today - I gave them my 11 and had them hold it side by side with their XS. They knew mine was newer but they didn’t know anything about the different models. They couldn’t really tell which one was better, just that there was a difference of some sort - their inclination was to say mine was better because they knew it was a newer phone but they couldn’t quite tell what about it was better.

I returned the XS for the XR and have been happy for a year. I am pretty picky FWIW. My wife upgraded her X for the XR and she loves it. She isn’t into specs but is brutal on a phone. Sometimes I can tell when she falls asleep as the phone bangs on the floor... she reads to relax.

The XR battery blew away that of the XS but the decision is harder this year with the increase of the battery life of the 11P.
