the thing with faceID, at least my understanding of it..
is that it will learn your variations over time.. with touchID, it uses the initial setup as the key but won't adapt over time..
whereas with faceID, the profile can and will change over time.
or-- if this 'trick' for setting up the profile does help initially, it likely won't be doing much in the long run as your profile in two weeks from now won't be the same one used upon initial set up.
