I don’t think the casual plus fan realizes this information. I have had plus phones since the original. I wouldn’t want to go back to a smaller phone. The x looks to be so cramped width wise.

Coming from a 6 Plus, then a 6S Plus and currently a 7 Plus it's a compromise I'm willing to make for the smaller size, OLED screen, "edge to edge" screen and Face ID.

I bet more then 80% of iPhone users are not even aware of the fact you can choose a 3rd party keyboard and/or have one installed on their iPhone

But what’s the point of something like Gboard if, like say, you are using dictation and it has to go to its own app then back to finish?

sorry, I don't know exactly what you mean with this.

(But that's mostlikely cause English is not my native language)

as a developer, you can see that Apple made the X to be the "edge to edge screen" for the normal iphone, so next year you will get the edge to edge screen" for the plus model

So the X will be better in almost everyway than the iphone 7-8, a 15% larger key on screen, larger, around 30%, screen area for content, BUT did not have the Plus UI, a lower screen area and so on. And so if you are used to everything Plus does better than the normal one , then wait until next year, the plus will have 6.5" probably, and probably 3000mAh L shape battery, UI enchanted , ipad dock style from ios11 etc

Bummer, I get it now, I've grown very used to the bigger keyboard... then again, cmon guys, we've been happy with the smaller one for many years, and even before the 4.7 with the iphone 5 and even the iphone 1-4 screen size and were texting like crazy. And we could text with one hand, while now on the plus I mostly use two fingers. If the size is somewhere in between plus and the 4.7, it will be fine. No worries, I'll be a happy X customer :))

Were those iPhones back in those days also $1000+ ? ;)

But its cute to see how you justify the small size keyboard of the iPhone X by comparing it to older tech.

What are some other decent 3rd party keyboards? Anyone recommend? I've looked on app store but they all want to be paid before you can even try them out. Dont mind paying but would like to know if its a decent keyboard or not. TIA

It's an easy mistake to make actually.

iPhone X 5.8" > iPhone Plus 5.5"
That makes the X 0.3" bigger than the Plus. Right? No.

Not Apple, or any other manufacturer for that matter, will bother to explain that the new aspect ratio actually makes the 5.8" display more cramped than the Plus' 5.5". They just put the numbers up and let people mislead themselves.

Personally I like my Plus but want an easier phone to handle. The X is perfect. It's slightly bigger than the 4.7" phone with a slightly wider, and much longer screen.

I know we can choose 3rd party keyboard, but I don't feel comfortable to let 3rd party ones monitor what I type all the time especially password, only Apple could know because I have no other choice.

haha okay, some miscommunication then between you and me. Sorry about that! I purely meant keyboard size difference iPhone 8 Plus vs iPhone X

No problem, if they launch a phone next year with a bezelles display and the same physical size as the iPhone Plus then that could be one big keyboard!!

I like the fact that Apple has still made a smallish device, I keep looking at the Plus but not sure if I could use it everyday.

Will the X be tall enough to have a permanent row of number keys? That would be reason to buy the X for me

I didn't start texting until plans came with unlimited text plans.

There's no reason to get the X if you are use to the Plus size devices. You're losing a ton of screen real estate! I've played with the X twice now, both times I hated the experience of how much smaller everything is. I don't care about the bezels.. I'm not paying more to get less screen! I don't care if it's OLED, I can easily wait till next year to get the "plus" model or whatever they name it. This is classic Apple.. take something away.. bring it back as new later. But with the inflated prices.. nope, can't do it!

On the native keyboard, you can dictate texts directly. Whereas, when you use GBoard to dictate texts on iMessage (I think you force touch on GBoard's space bar to dictate texts), it takes you to Google's app, converts your voice to text and then returns to iMessage...kinda tedious. That's what he meant.

But to answer @dulaney22, if you use that feature a lot, you are better off using the stock keyboard. For people like me, who text a lot while using the plus phone one-handed on trams, swipe-to-text is way more convenient.

How are they taking anything away? Only if you look at it as some kind if Iphone plus replacement which it clearly isn’t. If you are wedded to the physical screen size of the plus, then the X may not be that attractive to you. You already get the same internals, dual cameras and larger battery. Wait for the Iphone X+ next year

The point is.. it's in their marketing of the phone. Oh look bigger screen!!! All glass front!! WOW!! When reality sets in when you have it in hand, the edges are completely cut off and the top corners aren't real as far as viewing pleasure. So they are essentially taking away the "bigger" screen in favor of the smaller form factor. I guess people just want a phone with no bezel but they could have.. and should have made iphone 8 with the smaller bezels on the top/bottom.

Thanks for explaining. I haven’t tried swipe-to-text yet but I will. I like it on android.

How have you "played with the X twice now"?? Do you work for Apple or did you attend the keynote?
