That fluid demo would be great as a wallpaper but it would CPU intensive and impact battery life.

So was anyone else fascinated by the video they showed of the iPhone X that showed swirling, glittery paint on the screen? The paint filled the corners, and moved around the notch. It got me hoping that this is some kind of live wallpaper for the X that would move as you tilted the phone.

I haven't seen or heard any mention of it anywhere, but for those interested, it can be seen at the end of the keynote, at the 1:50:17 mark.

Thanks,
Doug

Hi, I have the X, and it’s not on here...looking around there’s so much on convert Live Photo to gif, but nothing about gif to live photo or Live Photo’s of that wallpaper.
For some reason I’m not able to get the wallpapers on the X to shift slightly every time you swipe the screen of apps over like it used to. It does the perspective thing where you tilt the phone up and down and it looks like the apps are floating above the background, just not where the actual background will shift a bit with each screen swipe.
I like the X a lot better than the 7 plus, I bet you guys will think it’s neat when you get yours. No home button is a little weird, and Face ID works well, you just can’t be too close. Also, no battery percentage on main screen and no zoomed mode.

Ok, I don't have the X, but I did think that "fluid trippy animation" was ONE AWESOME feature just from the keynote, the commercials I've seen all week - and you're saying the phone doesn't have this? Wow.

Reminds me of that Live Photo "Blue Jewel" that didn't come with the (7 / 7+)

Anyway, my only advice right now - there is an app called "Live Maker," you can download YouTube videos (something like this - "fluid design") Import this MP4 into your phone and create a LivePhoto effect. Look for other "Fluid iPhone X" movies on YouTube. Only downfall it may not be perfectly sharp looking on that OLED screen..maybe if your can find a 4K video and save that, you'll get a fairly sharp looking video effect.

Example clip

Apparently the glittery Live wallpapers are coming with iOS 11.2!!!! I kinda want to get beta but am afraid it’ll brick the X.

Yeah I’d just wait for them to get all the kinks out

Yeah that actually worked great...it’s not crystal clear, but hopefully like the other guy says, they may come out with it for iOS 11.2. Having a Live Photo at all of that liquid wallpaper in the ad is still better than the other lame wallpapers...you have a bunch of flowers, the earth (day), earth (night), the moon, a black background, and a ton of diagonal 70’s like designs that look like something anybody could make themselves. I lifted a really sharp river and rocks iOS wallpaper they said from iOS 7 or 9? I love that photo effect where it makes everything in the background black, very nice.

That’s fantastic if they do, that was an amazing screen effect in the ad

I’m on 11.2 also (public beta). The wallpaper moves only with 3D Touch (just like previous live wallpapers). Still looks okay however as others have stated Apple could have really done something special with a constant movement like seen in the video.

This is what the Beta 2 wallpaper looks like. There are 3 different ones. It's part of IOS 11.2 beta 2.

On my wife's iPhone 8 Plus, there's live wallpaper. You have to touch the screen to animate it, though. Which is fine because I don't want it to be a battery suck.
In what way do you have to touch it? I’ve tried all the live wallpapers and can’t get them to work. They just appear as static images when used for either the home or lock screen.

I think it would be a massive battery drain if it constantly moved.

But how much time is actually spent on the lock screen/home screen? Could the ‘app’ not be suspended from utilizing processing when not directly displayed?

I can’t see this making a huge impact to battery life unless you were to just sit and stare at it for long periods of time.

It would definitely drain battery more than usual but, it should be the consumers choice to enable it at least. Everyone’s battery needs are not the same and some could afford the decrease in battery in lieu of a full liwallpaper.

Live wallpapers are the suck. I've never used one other than to look at them once and say meh. Why would anyone want to mash down on the screen just to show something shift around about a quarter of an inch for 2 seconds?

They could use beautiful smooth looping video that plays from when you pick it up until you unlock the phone. For a lot of people, that would amount to no more than 5 seconds per unlock...if you unlock 100 times a day, that's only 8 minutes of video. Hardly enough to incur a massive hit on battery life. It could also loop infinitely while plugged in, making the phone a nice little piece of live ambient art.

Yeah I think that’s one of the flaws of the Samsung always on display...they got it to use up very little battery, but it still uses battery. An intensive display like the liquid would totally shred the battery life.

Good ideas- i was even thinking, they could suspend the loop feature if the phone is in low power mode for those worried about battery.

I do think the default live wallpapers are a bit redundant to have to press the screen to see it play for 2secs - really what's the point!?!

Few clips I found that are pretty decent looking for Live Wallpaper. I did this on my 8 Plus and grabbed the clips from here
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B9vwNOHkS_GmMG4tTVRBVkZMV1U (The small Apple Logo with the moving fluid is a nice minimal look)

Maybe for a cool effect you can take these 3 second clips, create a long 10 min loop of it and have it running a video as your phone sits and charges. Envy your friends and family! :Do_O

Thanks for the videos. I made live wallpapers out of it.

In case anyone wants it here’s the link : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KCVAOniXaQ7qF4tSipf0lopGxBI3poW_

Anyone remember with the Macbook Pro redesign in 2012, they showcased a background with Zebras that wasn't an option when it shipped.

Apple eventually added it because so many people were asking for it.

Hi thanks for that. They look amazing. As I am going from a mere iPhone 6 to the X in the next few days, how does one set these live wallpapers up? When I followed the link it gives me a short clip...
Apologies for the probably stupid question in advance!

I updated to 11.2 and set these as my wallpaper. The update was being buggy with some of my apps so I dropped back to 11 and the wallpaper was still on my phone after.

I used this app https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/live-maker-convert-videos-to-live-photos/id1081872089?mt=8 - Launch the app, you import the MP4, it will convert it to Live Wallpaper and save it to your Photos. Then go to settings, Wallpaper, Choose new wallpaper from the photos folder. You'll see the Live Wallpaper that was saved.

I actually has this on my old iPhone 6 Plus and was still able to create Live Wallpaper - and try it out in my Photos folder...but it just wouldn't work on the lock screen.

What's also cool about this, IF you have an Apple Watch, setting these Live Wallpapers to your photo background on your AW, that will animate briefly on the Watch also.
