Truly hoping for a usb-c connector on the next iPhone. So ridiculous to keep that lightning port when almost everything is usb-c. Apple could have done us the favour years ago. Been traveling the world with a usb-c Mac for already five years and still have a silly lightning cable for the iPhone alone…
Spoiler alert: the next iPhone will still have lightning.
If Apple truly had USB-C iPhones planned, they would have already done it in either the iPhone 7, which already ticked people off by removing a port so why not change another one, or the iPhone X, which already had enough changes and was a big enough upgrade to justify changing the port.
but they didn’t, that ship sailed, and you’re going to see the port gone before it’s replaced.
it’s kind of sad really, if the USB commission could’ve gotten their act together and ditched micro USB in 2012, I highly doubt lightning would have ever been a thing.
they just hung onto micro USB for way, way too long, and Apple wasn’t going to wait.

Apple's failure to put USB C in the iPhone 5 years after they made it the only option in their portables is bizarre.
It’s the reason I can’t consider an iPad Air for my mom. I know she’ll never Get used to two different cables. If only there were a standard…

What? They 'lose money' with USB-C? That makes no sense. The reason for the slow transition is all about security issues as I understand it.
It’s not about security issues, or else they wouldn’t have changed the iPad mini, air, or Pro, which run the same OS as the iPhone, over to USB-C.
it really is about:
A: Money
B: because outside of the obvious improvement in functionality, USB-C is a much less Sturdy port.

Can Apple just create a Lightning to USB-C adapter so I don’t need to carry two cables whenever I travel? I’m not sure why they had one for micro USB but not USB-C.

There are charging cables with built in adaptors for other ports.

Yep! micro USB is and always was total garbage. And I still have a million little cheap devices laying around that still need it, so I think we're going to be stuck with it for a very long time. And truth be told, I prefer the physical plug of lightning better than usb-c.... obviously usb-c has technical advantages, but the plug itself is inferior to lightning, imo.

There’s not a single functional adapter out there that turns Lightning to USB-C or vice versa while retaining fast charging capabilities. This won’t exist until Apple allows it.

Oh Apple can do it but he definitely proved Apple wrong. Perhaps, Apple should hire him and have him work with the iPhone team. But he did something Apple has been scared of doing?
Apple’s not scared or incapable.

USBC just isn’t in the roadmap for this point in time because they aren’t required to do it, it’s not a competitive disadvantage and it doesn’t yet serve their purposes to change it.
