Bids are being accepted until November 11, with estimated delivery by late December. Pillonel said anyone who bids on the iPhone X agrees that they will not restore, update, or erase the device, will not open the device, and will not use it as their daily device. He also cautions that the modded iPhone X is "just a prototype."
once he's sold it he loses any and all rights he had to the device and can't make any demands on what they do with it, however he could possibly be held liable for any incidents since he was the one that modded and sold it.

Can Apple just create a Lightning to USB-C adapter so I don’t need to carry two cables whenever I travel? I’m not sure why they had one for micro USB but not USB-C.
Probably because Lightning’s data transfer speeds are embarrassingly glacial.

Kind of ironic that the guy that opened the original device to mod it is refusing the new owner "right to repair".

It's still a fun mod, but why all the restrictions? If you can't even use it as a daily driver and you bought a used phone with no warranty, who cares what you do with it? If he wants it preserved as the "First USB-C iPhone" then don't sell it.

wait, so if you get the device, you’re not allowed to open it, you’re not allowed to use it, and you get a 30 minute Q&A for a device you’re not allowed to open or use?
Wow, sounds like an absolute bargain.
maybe I’ll sell my MacBook Air on eBay, claim it’s the first Apple device with an M2, but the catch is that you can’t open it, you can’t use it, and you get 30 minutes to ask about it.
extremely ridiculous.
That was a truncated disclaimer. The full thing is basically saying that if it stops working, or causes any other issues, he won't be held responsible, and won't have to replace or repair it. Basically, use it at all, and there is no warranty. Thus, use it all you like, just don't come back crying for a refund if it breaks.

Never going to get that money for this.

The auction is likely to disappear, and soon. ebay hates to carry on with the idea they will get money when they know they won't. They will either look at all the bids and throw out the 'new accounts', or will look at past history, and toss those with no past history.

I remember an auction, decades ago, where they went through and found out that many bidders were 'first time', and opened their accounts that very day, and that some had the same IP address. They 'reset' the bidding, and removed all of those accounts. In the end, as I remember, the 'winning bid' was in the low hundreds of dollars, and the actual winner backed out. It was a disaster, but ended up well for most...

It is the people bidding on this thing whose business it is, but I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for that phone. Why would anyone think a hardware hacked iPhone is worth any money. All this proves is that Apple is denying USB C for no good reason. Well, the reason is simply the licensing fees that they charge for Lightning.

If anyone believes the winning bidder will actually pay up, I have a few brides to sell:)

It’s the reason I can’t consider an iPad Air for my mom. I know she’ll never Get used to two different cables. If only there were a standard…
If your mom won’t be able to figure out how to charge an iPad Air when given a choice of 2 cables, then an iPad may not be the device for her

It’s not that she can’t figure out how to use two cables. She’ll just be less than thrilled to have an additional cable in multiple places and when traveling — enough to the point where it’ll be a blocker to her actually using it.

But while you’re being condescending, please tell me which non-iPad tablet is better for my iPhone-using mom, who won’t use two cables.

Are we sure the USB-C spec can handle the physical requirements current lightning users are accustomed to? Firmness of the 'lock' when putting it in. The ability to use the nub to hold the device (clock radio/docks, etc)... I'm not sure this is all just about 'money'.

Apparently it's good enough to be used on every other Apple product

Not sure that's a fair reply though. You can lift a phone by holding the adapter, but none of the products are such that people would naturally do this to my knowledge (clearly too heavy/bulky). In the car, especially, or grabbing a phone from a nightstand both have this as a common use of holding by the adapter. Maybe the hollow usb-c design would bend or otherwise fail.

At best, it’s a first world problem, having to carry a second charging cable. Plenty of us manage. If it will be a blockeR to her using the iPad, maybe She doesn’t really need one?

I don’t have a recommendation for a non-iPad tablet, and I was not being condescending, but ironic
