Calling BS on this. Not in the mod, that's a nice hobby project, stuff that good students do (or at least should do). But the $85k bid is probably fake.

I think it is VERY likely we see a portless iphone once magsafe is mature enough.
Until then(2-4 years probably),lightning .
I certainly hope not. Portless is stupid. Why would anyone want to only have the option of slower, less efficient charging. And how about data transfer? Yea, wireless but what about reloading a bricked phone. And by the way….lightning >USB C

Hmm, I know everyone wants usb - c but you really want to pay this much for a very old, outdated phone with 64 gb memory which you can’t use everyday, update, restore as he listed. So what’s really the use of this phone?

Wonder why he is placing these exclusions. And even so how could he enforce them?
Software hacks to make it work, and he is making people acknowledge that up front, so they can't demand a refund if they update it & brick the phone.

That’s almost certainly not a genuine bid. People were doing this with scalpers too, bidding millions of dollars on GPUs and consoles so no one else could buy scalped goods.

Oh Apple can do it but he definitely proved Apple wrong. Perhaps, Apple should hire him and have him work with the iPhone team. But he did something Apple has been scared of doing?
Oh give us a break will you. How did he prove Apple wrong? And Apple isn’t ‘scared’ of doing this. They have their reasons but being scared is certainly not one of them. And I still don’t understand why some Apple users want Apple to be forced into doing what every other OEM is. If you want a USC-C port on your smartphone buy a Samsung and be done with it. If you want to side load apps buy an Android phone. But no, you want the government to get involved and force Apple to bend to your will. Be careful of what you ask for. The Apple you know won’t be the same Apple you have now when the government get through with them. Innovation will truly be non existent when Apple is banned from trying something new or is forced to keep old technology ad infinitum. And I guarantee you’ll be back here crying about how Apple has changed for the worse.

And by the way, if Apple were to come up with a new and better way of connecting to a mobile device would it be your position that they should not be allowed to put it into production until every other OEM is onboard with it?

1)I guess everyone hope not,but it's likely.we shall see
2)portless can be good for water resistance I suppose .less efficient for now,but perhaps will it get better in several years ? Still a lotta energy get wasted so I doubt it'll ever be as good as wired
3)as for data transfers, wireless is already MUCH faster than wired on iphones, because in spite of the ****ing high prices ,apple still uses USB 2.0 ,which sucks .
For brick phone, well, they want u to visit 'em don't they? Go visit your app store daddy so I can charge u some indecent price for unbricking your iphone ,son

Many of these high prices end up being:
1. Shills
2. Returned as SNAD
3. Non paying accounts

I wonder which it will be here as this device really is not worth all that much.

So $85k or zero when a software update bricks it, bargain!:D
If you watch the video, you'll see its basically a lightning to usb-c inside the phone, if software bricks it, then it would brick all lightning cables. Apple also wouldn't update the software to brick just one iPhone either.

I'm hoping that since Apple has brought back Magsafe, HDMI, and the SD Card reader to the Macbook Pro's, it's the beginning of an Apple that pays a little bit more attention to user feedback, and finally puts an end to lighting, and puts usb-c on the iphone, like this kid has done. It obviously can be done, and now we've all seen it. Lightning has served us well, but it's time to move on to usb-c.
