I still believe there is something shady and fake about the device being auctioned. For example: being unable to restore the phone puts us in an awkward position regarding Keyloggers and other malware that could easily yield more value to the supposed student that made the device.
Do you really think anyone is going to buy this, an iPhone X, actually intending to use it as their daily driver?

I think we need a 100% tax on retarded purchases. Wow. This isn’t even a big engineering feat. Lots of Apple devices have USBC.

I just...don't understand this. At all.

I don't understand why people are clamoring for a USB C iPhone, nor do I understand why someone is willing to pay $85,000 for one.

I wonder if the phone is a gimmick and the real prize is the 30 minute call with the seller. By winning the bid you’re presented with the opportunity of a lifetime worth millions and millions!

Except what bothers me about USB-C is that thin tongue, and the close spacing between it and the shell of the connector. I wonder how many people have had 'junk' end up in that small gap. In the early MagSafe days, I picked up a metal shaving that blocked the connector.
I hate this about USBC. Although in testing the design is durable it just looks easy to break and like fragile trash. Tongue in tongue is terrible design.

Stupid cannot begin to describe someone buying a modded phone that does nothing more or less than what you can buy today. The type of port is irrelevant as it improves nothing since most people never sync and I do not even know if the USB-C is faster than lightning for synching.

This sale will probably fall through with buyer deciding not to buy.

As for the mod...it's not like they don't have prototypes of these sitting in Apple offices.

wait, so if you get the device, you’re not allowed to open it, you’re not allowed to use it, and you get a 30 minute Q&A for a device you’re not allowed to open or use?
Wow, sounds like an absolute bargain.
maybe I’ll sell my MacBook Air on eBay, claim it’s the first Apple device with an M2, but the catch is that you can’t open it, you can’t use it, and you get 30 minutes to ask about it.
extremely ridiculous.
That's called a CYA statement, my friend.

Similar rules when you buy an iPhone from apple, you're not allowed to install any software unless it is approved and apple get a 30 % cut.

He did what Apple can’t do!
He did what Apple should do..or if they can’t do it they should go with the flow and start to build the newer devices to the c port and within 4 years they will be there.

Can Apple just create a Lightning to USB-C adapter so I don’t need to carry two cables whenever I travel? I’m not sure why they had one for micro USB but not USB-C.
I think the micro USB adapter was due to the EU.

What? They 'lose money' with USB-C? That makes no sense. The reason for the slow transition is all about security issues as I understand it.
They can’t sell ‘made for iPhone’ with usb c. Apple makes money off official accessories. They don’t lose money but they do lose an opportunity to make money.

I certainly hope not. Portless is stupid. Why would anyone want to only have the option of slower, less efficient charging. And how about data transfer? Yea, wireless but what about reloading a bricked phone. And by the way….lightning >USB C
Internet recovery, just like the Mac has had for years.
Not to mention that Apple already has portless products.
Apple Watch, The individual AirPods, even the Apple TV ditched the USB-C port it used for restore and maintenance a couple years ago.
And the HomePod, but maybe that isn’t the best example

Maybe they will see this and finally come to their senses on USB-C for iPhones...

This, but also I think with the introduction of MagSafe, Lightning powered “made for iPhone” devices are going to become less and less.

Are we sure the USB-C spec can handle the physical requirements current lightning users are accustomed to? Firmness of the 'lock' when putting it in. The ability to use the nub to hold the device (clock radio/docks, etc)... I'm not sure this is all just about 'money'.

It’s a liability thing. Of course the buyer will open and use the device, but if it blows up one day without warning, the seller can say he made the buyer promise not to use it.
