I love mine. Yes I could go bigger, but this does fit nicely in my pants pocket. I love face id, so simple, touch id rarely worked for me on 6s+. My only issue is I cant hear on the phone very well, its muffled. I have to call tech support. Hope I dont have to exchange it as it is set up just how I want.

What's wrong with it?
Letterboxing right now in some of the apps I use, but I am surprised with the number of apps that have already updated to the X size

What's amazing about it?
FaceID is pretty awesome, so is the screen. It's brighter than I thought it would be. I also like the fact that the battery life is pretty good. I used it from 5am - 9pm without charging it once with wifi, bluetooth, etc on the whole day. Inductive charging is cool, but I only use it in my car charging dock and on my night table. Speed is great, but the speed on my 6S was pretty good on iOS 11.1 as well.

How's the build quality?
This might possibly be the best built iPhone since the 4/4S in my opinion. It feels sturdy and I like how cases feel on it compared to my last phone (6S Plus)

Overall, is it worth it?
To get 256GB I think it's worth it. I like to take pics and videos of my family so the quality of the phone is much better than my 6S. I also think it's worth it because it is completely different from any other iDevice. I also have an iPad Pro and I hardly ever use the home button since iOS 11 is great for gestures on it.

I returned mine on November 6th. Wasn’t impressed with the screen quality. Loved face id etc. But form$1,250.00 I wasn’t blown away or wowed by the screen. Back to my 7+ and I’m okay with that.

My favorite thing about the X (besides the screen/design) is the gesture based UI. Everything is so fluid and smooth. Swiping between apps from the bottom is so quick that I am actually using multitasking for once. I never did before. All of the gestures are really natural and easy.

Gesture control is unique on its own. I definitely think Apple has a strong future in implementing this in different ways. I think there is also learning curve that goes along with it however.

All New phone users are already use to gestures. I picked it up quick. Bring them on! Lol

I’m still getting used to retraining my muscles but overall I love the phone. It’s heavy thought but looks beautiful and has a fantastic screen

I’ve Never been disappointed with any Apple products. They work out of the box. Continue to do so for years. Not something I can say for Compaq, Hp, Sony and others.

The iPhone X has been a joy to use so far. Took to Face ID and gestures right away. Love the size to screen ratio and the OLED implementation is wonderful. The Displaymate analysis shows just how amazing.

Will be upgrading to new iPad Pro from Air 2 with Face ID next year when it comes out.

The worry of OLED burn-in. Even though there is probably no need to worry it is in the back of my mind.

The screen, FaceID and Cameras. Probably the most impressive iPhone I have had. The gestures that replaced the home button feel so much more natural.

Build quality is very high. It feels amazing in the hand with the stainless steel band and glass back.

For me, yes it is worth it and I can see myself keeping it for the next few years unless next years has something radical.
I wouldn't bet on it. Apple products have an evolutionary release cycle rather than a revolutionary one. What I mean is that next year's iPhone isn't going to be that much different than this years'. This is exactly why I only buy a new iPhone when the new form factors come out. Luckily, this time it was a 3 year cycle so I had an iPhone slush fund saved because I sure used it this year ;)

Seems like iPhone X is a pretty good phone for what it is. I can't wait to get my hands on one to see for myself.
As I said, I have moved over to a 64GB SE for a fresh reliable phone, and oof it's nice. I don't know if my 6S just had a lot of hardware and software issues or what, but this little SE is giving me a better experience than my 6S did when I got it new back in 2015. I don't quite get it, but it makes me sad that the 6S is pretty clunky. Perhaps it was just an issue with my device, who knows.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I dont mind the letter boxing of the apps. I thought it would be worse.

Same here. I’ve read so many complaints making it sound like the apps are unusable or something. My Chase Banking app hasn’t been updated for the screen, but it knows about Face ID which is great.

I'm overall happy with the phone, and think I'll be quite content using it for the foreseeable future.

I love the design of my space grey model. The stainless steel band in this colour was something I had hoped for ever since the first Apple Watch, and colour wise I don't miss my Jet Black 7 at all. Even the rear camera arrangement doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would.

My issues currently revolve around battery life, how both gestures and Face ID can sometimes seem very hit or miss, and how quickly 3rd party developers update their applications to properly fill out the screen.

Someone should start a thread to find out what people think of that new X iPhone I heard about.

What's wrong with it?

Price is $100 too high or Apple should provided a fast charger to complement a feature of the X.

Some might say glass backing but in the proper case protector this is a moot point. At $1000 it should be in a case regardless. Wireless charging is finally here and I paired my X with a Mophie.

What's amazing about it?

UI gestures. Movements are so natural and innovative that after only a week with my X, it feels awkward navigating my old 6S (now my kids phone) or my wife’s 7. It’s that easy and I prefer it now.

Display. Brilliant screen display. Coming from LCD and one who watches 1-2 hours of TV on it a day, I’m not going back to LCD ever again. Next step is microOLED only.

Easy to find glass protectors that stay on, unlike phones that have a curve in the display. Not having a glass protector is NOT an option for me.

Side note to display: (Samsung was shamed with their own panels that they provided to for the X implemented with Apple’s “True Tone” color accuracy. Though the fact the X are using Samsung A+ panels also makes this a bonus for the X. Samsung are IMO the best display makers and were able to fix over saturation with the S9 finally not to be out done.)

Video: Unlimited 4K at 60FPS video recording with no 5 min limit like the S9 I’ve recently learned. Imagine wanting to record a special moment and it running out of time and having multiple 5 min videos for one event and/or missing action.

Camera. Picture are brilliant. I also like the quick 2x zoom feature which is quite useful with auto focus so quickly. No spreading the screen with fingers and tap to focus required that I use to miss further than ideal shots.

Perfect size. Though it’s only slightly larger / longer than my 6S it gives more screen viewing with edge to edge for browsing, it fits in my pocket just right, it’s not too big like a plus would be for me to carry around in my pocket all day.

How's the build quality?

Best quality build for Apple to date. I’ve owned 4S, 5S, 6S and this is the most premium build yet.

One thing about Apple phones has been good manufacturing quality control Apple has on their products that set them apart from other manufactures IMO.

I get insurance all the time and still have to have one iphone just die or start malfunctioning on me. I almost feel like cancelling my insurance but will keep it until I pay it off next year.

Overall, is it worth it?

Yes.

I guess the $100 mark up could be the price you pay for a good iOS software development team that you get with Apple with prompt updates and things that just work. Their salary and what they provide can make the whole experience worthy and it’s one of the many reasons I keep sticking with Apple.

I’m one of those people who think the grass is greener on the other side. Every 2 years I try to convince myself to try an android and every time I feel androids aren’t on par with Apple devices as a whole.

So even if some things arent the best with Apple, it’s not that off par with the competition and it’s worth a balanced trade off to me almost justifying the premium price with a premium phone.

Love the phone. Miss Touch ID dearly. The notch doesn't bother me. The camera is amazing!
I would agree in part, in that I do somewhat miss the fact that TouchID was a fully mature implementation, which -- while it didn't work absolutely perfectly every single time -- came really, really close to that signature Apple "it just works" look-and-feel, whereas FaceID presently bears a heavy dose of that early-adopter "oops... let's try that again" look-and-feel -- which, let's be frank, is exactly what it is. I'm honestly shocked that Apple has sold so many iPhone X units, as I figured the sticker shock alone would greatly thin the herd! But apparently not.

For me a huge mistake given the price. Only myself to blame here of course.

I dislike other things too. Face ID frustrates me more than Touch ID, location of Control Center sucks, inability to unlock on a flat surface, compromises when watching video in landscape.

What's wrong with it?
  • Not much to complain about from my perspective. It's a bit of a stretch for me to use one-handed, but I can manage it one-handed much more easily than the 8 Plus I tried.

What's amazing about it?
  • The camera system, and having dual cameras in a smaller-than-Plus-sized iPhone.
  • The display is awesome as well, but I also think Apple's LCD displays are fantastic.
  • FaceID and the gesture driven interface. I do not miss the home button or TouchID one bit. I still have those on my iPad, and the home button just feels clunky to me now. The iPhone X just feels faster and more convenient to use thanks to the gestures and the way FaceID quickly and automatically unlocks the iPhone and secure apps.
  • The dot projector that makes FaceID, animoji, and the TruDepth selfie cam possible is impressive technology. Most people don't find it amazing because they don't care about FaceID and animoji are silly, but the geek in me sees the potential for this technology as it advances.
  • Wireless charging is awfully convenient. The iPhone 8/8+ has this too, and I like it more than I thought I would. It's one of those little conveniences that I had to use to appreciate.
How's the Build Quality?
  • It looks and feels like a premium product, but also a somewhat fragile one given the all glass construction. I put a case on it as well as a screen protector. If you go caseless, I'd definitely get AppleCare+.
  • My wife says it feels heavy. I say it feels solid. The weight doesn't bother me.
  • The camera bump is a design issue, but using a case mitigates it.
  • I got the silver model with the stainless steel band. I know the stainless will get micro-scratches easily, but I think that's okay and even looks nice. That said I put a case on it, so that's a moot point. Some people have a problem with the scratch thing though.
  • I think it's the most beautiful iPhone I've ever seen. Such a shame that I put a case on it.
  • Three months in and so far no issues (knock on wood). Performs reliably for me.
Overall, is it worth it?
  • I bought the 256 GB model, which is a seriously expensive smartphone. Yes, it is worth it to me. I value what this phone offers... especially the dual camera in a smaller-than-plus package. That alone is worth a lot to me. I use my iPhone for a lot throughout the day, every day. The iPhone is the device at the center of my technology universe. My Apple Watch, iPad, desktop computers are all peripherals. Each plays an important role. I may spend more time using the iPad or desktop. I may interact with the watch more frequently. But the iPhone is at the center and performs essential functions at times when I need those functions to be quick, easy, reliable, and with the expected outcome whether it be a phone call, information retrieval, photograph, video, etc. I also think of it as a pocket camera that allows me to leave my dedicated camera gear at home more often. The iPhone 6 camera wasn't quite good enough for me to do that, but the iPhone X camera is.
  • I can't tell you if it would be worth it for you. It depends on what features and characteristics you value. There are so many threads about the price and whether it is worth it. You can spend many hours reading all sorts of opinions, but ultimately it comes down to understanding your own wants, needs, and expectations enough to decide which model at which price point will be the bets fit for you and your budget.

I forgot to add one of my dislikes beside not getting a fast charger inside the box was removing the 3.5mm headphone jack.

Apples excuse was the water resistance, but we now see with S9 you can have better resistance with a 3.5mm jack as well. Apple just wanted to proprietize earbuds I guess.

I’m currently seeking earbuds with a lightning cord to replace my sennhieser IE60’s that are as good or even close to the same sound quality but there are none.

Beats are over priced and all bass at the expense of mids and highs.

Bose are more balanced with rich bass IMO but still over priced.

So I use my IE60’s with this noticeably awkward lightning to 3.5mm white cord that kinks and is aesthetically ugly. Not to mention the extension seems to slightly suffocate the sound volume and quality I had without it.

I can’t listen to music and charge simultaneously like I was used to either and that’s another negative under this same umbrella.

I’m still very happy about everything else.

I'm honestly shocked that Apple has sold so many iPhone X units, as I figured the sticker shock alone would greatly thin the herd! But apparently not.

Two things come to mind with the launch of the iPhone X:

1.) Apple hype. Anytime a new product comes out from Apple and with their marketing, there’s a lot of hype behind it. Especially given the iPhone, being that it’s the most popular hardware product, the iPhone X had a lot of time for consumers to decide if this is something they were interested in when it was announced in September and did not launch until November 2017.

2.) Monthly installed payments for the iPhone X. Given that it’s the most expensive iPhone we have ever seen, the consumer makes the decision that they will pay it off monthly on their carrier bill. Even Tim Cook mentioned how the iPhone X is financed in comparison to what someone would spend at coffee shops weekly.
