No, Ben.

It has nothing to do with an inexperienced customer advisor. @Illdoit2morrow has already explained this is a service that is offered by DPD.

As has been explained several times, similar to UPS, DPD allow the recipient to make changes to their parcel whilst in transit. Including the option to collect from depot.

You can’t just walk in to a DPD depot and demand to collect a parcel; regardless of whether you have I.D. or not. Unless you’ve specifically requested the service to collect, it will remain in the appropriate tote to be delivered as consigned.

You have no idea what you are talking about or any knowledge of the UK postal system. You can walk into a DPD office to collect your item! That is how our postal system works in the UK as long as you have ID.

My order is with DPD and collection requesting isn't an option in transit. This is from the DPD app on my UK iPhone X order. Upgrading the delivery does not work.

They must have amended the app as I used it last night to change for pick up at depot. Although this was within 5 min of getting original DPD notification

I'm from the U.K. and receive DPD deliveries on an almost daily basis (I run my business from home.)

I'm afraid you're mistaken, Ben. No, you simply cannot walk into a DPD depot. and demand to collect a parcel. Unless you've specifically requested the 'Collect from Depot' option and/or it was enabled by the sender as part of the manifest process. You might be able to walk into a Royal Mail depot. and collect mail with I.D. etc. but with DPD unless it's requested, the package will remain in the appropriate tote to be loaded to the vehicle and delivered as consigned.

In this particular instance, Carphone Warehouse packages sent via DPD have the 'Collect from Depot' option enabled as part of manifest. It is for this reason the 'Collect from Depot' option was available to @Illdoit2morrow. In fact, I'm sure he posted his screenshot of the MyDPD app that gave him the option.

Ben, stop being salty.

Mine still says 11/3 delivery. Just waiting on the “ready for UPS” to change to dispatched lol it’s absolutely insane that they overnight from China to Alaska, then Kentucky, and it will still get here tomorrow in Arizona.

You’d think they’d be shipping to the us for the past two weeks and then sit in them until launch day. So much work haha

The delivery options change based on what the sender has allowed. Some allow you to request it get delivered to a neighbour for example and some don't, some let you request it to be left in a safe place and other's don't.

Even if the barcode identified the sender as Tim Cook you still haven't explained how anyone at the depot would know what the package contained. That barcode is not going to read iPhone X. I'm not sure how it works in England, but shippers have no idea what's in our packages.

Trust me, every year, all the drivers know the iPhone shipments. They have loads of them, from Apple, with specific strict rules and they're all in the shape box (plus they know and have been prepped for release day)

UPS know all the Apple packages, they have a special "Apple Cage" where non deliveries go so they don't get lost with the rest of the standard packages - Apple come down hard if they start losing or misplacing things. The contract is worth millions and Apple have special options on the labels that normal account holders can't even get.

In my DPD app I can request to deliver it to another address or pickup from collection point .

I picking mine up from a pickup collection that tomorrow as I will be at work

Correct, no convincing needed. And DPD can’t be to blame (see my post on this) as there is no way they could have known it was an iPhone in the sealed bag?

You should go to an Apple shop line up tomorrow and just casually pull it out in front of everyone in the queue.

The phone that is! :eek::p:D

Well I’m in Spain this week. Heading home tomorrow. Got a text from DPD about two hours ago saying it will be delivered. As I doubt I’ll be there to receive it, I changed it to pickup from a local DPD store. Tomorrow will help me get over my post holiday blues.

I did that for the original iPad. I was queuing for a case and confused one of the Apple Store employees as to why I wasn’t actually going to buy one. I said ‘because I’ve already got one’ and pulled it out of my netbook bag. There was a sudden ‘ahhhh’ from the queue and I was then ushered in in front of everyone so I could get the case. That was kinda neat.

I've bought an iPhone every year from the 3GS to now. In most cases, the phone arrived a day before the actual release date.

My X is still saying “Order Processed: Ready for UPS” from UPS, even though I have a November 3rd delivery...

If he went to the Apple store and told others he just bought it, I’m sure it would cause quite the angry stir up. “I don’t know why they won’t sell or show you it, I got mine just fine! They must not like you”.

Im sure when these people are old and telling their great grandchildren about their life accomplishments, they’ll regale them with endlessly entertainly stories (sic) about how they got the iPhoneX before most other people. Or how about that amazing day they waited in line for a few hours and got their iPhone 5s on release day.

Besides of course asking what the iphone was, the children will also ask, is great grandaddy losing it, or was he always this interested in fleetingly pointless things in life?
Are they gonna have kissing iphone pictures?

Who cares, not that big of a deal, there are plenty iphone X's out already for Apples "Chosen ones" because it suits Apple. Those people shouldn't be treated as any more important than real paying customers. There is already enough hype for the phone. It's not like anymore really needs to be generated.

Oh no, God forbid some "proletariate" gets an iphone early, thats an abomination to Apple and their carefully crafted PR blitz.

I'm happy for that guy!! Good for him.

I'm sure one of the largest corporate bullies will bring the wrath of God on whoever is to blame

Reminds me of when I got my iPhone 4 delivered two days before the release date.

Since my walk to work passed by the SF Apple Store, I thought it would be funny to take pictures of people waiting in line for the iPhone 4 with my iPhone 4.

Should've seen the look on everyone's face when they saw I already had the phone. :D

If only you had warned them about Antennae Gate.

You seem to be failing to grasp that this isn’t a shipment from Apple, it’s from Carphone Warehouse. DPD may know it’s an iPhone, or they may not, but if the sender says collect from depot is available then they allow it to be selected in the app. The mistake here is entirely down to Carphone Warehouse.
