Also, the charger has to support the Power Delivery standard for fast charging.

It's not the wattage; it's the fast charging standard I was referring to. It's not the Qualcomm standard.

sorry to be a PITA..

is the 'power delivery standard' ----> USB-C...

or is there another terminology that the product descriptions will state that support this for this year's iPhones?

thanks!

I'll have to do more research, thanks for pointing it out

No. Read my link.

This one says it has the power delivery technology

Probably a bad idea. There's only two bricks (aside from OEM 29w from Apple) are described in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/29w-fast-charging-tests-and-3rd-party-adapters.2052414/

Note: only the OEM Apple Lightning to USB-C cable has been confirmed to support fast charging.

Personally, I only use the OEM bricks/chargers. Not worth the risk of frying something.

What they aren’t saying is all you will need is a wall adapter that has Qualcomm 3.0 quick charge port on it and you will only need ur regular cord that will get you your quick charge!

No. I'm not aware of any 3rd party lightning to USB-C cables that work. Even Apple explicitly acknowledges this.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/29w-fast-charging-tests-and-3rd-party-adapters.2052414/

But it says 3rd Party bricks work. That’s enoigh for me that thing is $50

There seems to be a lot of inconsistency with different third-party cables. I would probably just bite the bullet and buy an original Apple cable.

Ya that’s what I am going to do, but a 3rd party brick for $20

'Member when Apple was all about simplicity? I 'Member.

Now it's all about which dongle and which charger I need to buy to use a feature on the phone.

If you already have a MacBook Pro or MacBook you have the power adapter for fast charging.

If you already have a usb-c to USB adapter as well. You may* have everything you need.

My question is the difference between the usb-c to lightning cable vs say an Apple usb-c to USB adapter in combination with an Apple usb to lighting cable.

I’d assume the usb-c to lightning cable is thicker and better suited for the extra power. Just an assumption though

Apple needs to dump their lightning cables and give us USB-C on the iPhones!

Will never happen. The future is wireless.

They still are. Everything you need to make the phone work as advertised is in the box.

Correct. USB-C to Lightning from Apple is thicker.

Really? I'm pretty sure faster charge is an advertised feature, yet you certainly can't do that with what's in the box.

From what I've read on Amazon, not all of these third-party USB-C to lightning cables will fast-charge an Apple device.
I'm not sure what the issue is, but I think I'm going to wait until we get a bit more specific information after the 8 and 8 Plus are actually out.
Dang this is getting complicated lol. The 8 owners will be the guinea pigs.

  • Fast-charge capable
Nowhere does it say such capability is available from what comes in the box.

Not really. It is appropriate to think the recent iPad Pros share the same capabilities, and we've already tested those.

Some of the third-party USB-C lightning cables appear to work on the newer iPads while others do not. More testing will be needed once the new iPhones are actually out.

Link to such cables, and testing results?

Not testing results, but anecdotal information from users on Amazon. Not very scientific, I know, but if you can provide actual testing of third-party cables used for fast-charging the latest iPads, I really would appreciate it. Not being snarky; I'm just looking for more good info.
