there is a market everywhere for this and people will pay it. it's a marker of social status not simply a phone anymore. when you are holding the ten and using it in your hands, it feels like a product from rolex.

Except your fancy new phone will be utterly obsolete and worthless in about three years. A Rolex? That's another matter entirely. The two things don't even warrant comparison. :)

Sure it did. The first wave are the same crazy people that went out and bought the nonsensical MacPro trash can. This will normalize pretty soon in the states also.

Only thing that saves it here is that most people pay it in installment plans.

That's the only thing saving it anywhere. I know a ton of people with iPhones, but they won't upgrade until their contracts are through.

I'm a Verizon employee and they WON'T let us upgrade or pre-order the iPhone X. Same with the 8/8 Plus at first, then a month in they let us have that option. So frustrating that I can't even buy one straight up unlocked and pop my SIM in...

Shipping estimates for the iPhone X have improved to 2 to 3 weeks across Europe, suggesting Apple's efforts to ramp up supply and production are starting to see some success. The 2 to 3 week shipping estimates are an improvement over the previous 3 to 4 week shipping estimates that have been available since early November.

The new 2 to 3 week shipping estimates are available in all European countries where the device has launched, including the UK, Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and more.

iPhones ordered today in these countries will arrive well ahead of the holidays, in early December.

Other countries in North America and Asia Pacific still list 3 to 4 week shipping estimates, but the last time shipping estimates improved, we saw better estimates in Europe that then expanded to the United States. We expect to see U.S. shipping estimates drop soon.

In addition to improving shipping estimates from devices purchased from the online Apple Store, we've also been hearing continual reports from MacRumors readers who have seen their pre-ordered iPhone X models shipping out much sooner than expected. Many who originally had December shipping estimates have already received their devices or are expecting them in November.

Apple retail stores are also receiving regular shipments and customers who check stock on Apple.com early and use stock-tracking tools like iStockNow have been able to make purchases with no wait time.

Back in early November, Apple CEO Tim Cook said Apple was working to ramp up iPhone X production week by week, with the aim of getting the new smartphone out to customers "as soon as possible."

Ahead of the iPhone X launch, rumors suggested the device would be heavily constrained and in short supply until well into 2018, but given the improvements we're already seeing, supply/demand balance could be reached earlier than originally expected.

i preordered my iPhone the 1st day on october 27th and it still says its coming from the 1st to the 8th. it got improved last week from the 8th to the 17th tho

I got my iPhone 8 Plus A1864 Qualcomm model for $799 Plus $300 gift card Sams club. Which is like cash to us since we do grocery shopping there.

So really cost me $500 Plus $56 tax. Activation fee waived.

$556 for iPhone 8 Plus 64gb vs no discount for $1000 Plus $70 taxes for iPhone X.

Basically a $500 price difference.

So the iPhone 8 Plus was a better buy for me

Easy decision. Plus i paid off the installment already and eligible for another att promo next week. That’s how u I pay the att next game.

I ordered the iPhoneX on Thursday, Nov.9 from Consumer Cellular and receive it on Monday, the 13th. That was over a weekend and there were no problems. The price was the same as Apple.

Wow. I guess, they really make sure that customers get them first. I get it though, but it's a bummer to be a carrier employee now. I bet Apple has the same policy for their staff as well.

I too was at this fork in the road and opted for the 10. The 8 plus and 10 are not so far off in price so i said why not, i'll throw in a little extra $ and go for the X. i also took this opportunity to join the upgrade program so I can upgrade to the ten plus next year ;)

Yes I would have preferred the X if I could have secured one, but circumstances would not let me wait 2-3 weeks, much less 3-4 and as I was quite happy with the 6 Plus, I expect the 8 Plus to serve me well (performance is notably better in iOS 11, for example) till the next generation (and hopefully larger) OLED handsets are released next year.

I have been quite pleasantly surprised by how much my three-year old iPhone 6 Plus is going for on eBay just shortly after I listed it. Considering how much better a phone the X is, I think it will be far from "worthless" in 2020...

Price outside of the US is criminal. Bump up the US prices another 30%, and I'm sure the wait times will decrease state side just as easily.
US prices don't include tax/vat/whatever you want to call it. If you exclude the tax from the price in other countries, you'll see that you end up with roughly the same price as in the US.

Sort of, yes. Some friends of mine that work at Apple Retail were told they had to wait in the line for a reservation, just like a customer. No preferential treatment, or discounts on the iPhone X at launch.

That and that there are plenty of high end smartphones that cost $850, so $999 is no big deal.

Apple told the street they fully expect iPhone X to not only sell well but ramp up significantly THIS quarter when they guided for $87B.

Demand isn’t slowing...production is improving just like Apple told us it would. Be prepared to eat crow when AAPL reports in about 75 days.

The screenshot in the article clearly shows British Pound. The rate is 1.32 (Pound to USD), which gives us $1320 for the base model. I paid for the same model $1087 after tax in the US, so it's a $233 difference. I would not call it "roughly the same", it's a big difference. The 256GB model is $1516 doing the same math. That's insane. Frankly speaking.

Shipping estimates have definitely improved if you ordered from T-Mobile in the states. My silver 256GB X went from a 12/01-12/20 ship date to 11/14-11/16 ship date today. Not sure what time it updated because I checked it around 10:00 AM PST. By 12:00 PM it was updated. I originally placed my order on 11/4.

My bank account has already been charged and everything. So excited! Nevada for reference. Not sure if location would make a difference.

And if you do the math for the € price it costs even more.

If you went to Apple and bought one or had one given as a gift by your spouse they would realistically penalize you? I doubt that and a sale is a sale to Apple. Regardless of who it's from. Dumbest thing I've heard of.

Actually, it's the opposite, with Euro the price difference is not as steep: it's 1.18 rate for Euro vs 1.32 rate for British Pound. So buying the X in the UK is the worst deal price wise.

Rolex? You can get a brand new A. Lange & Söhne for 2.2 million US$, or a brand new Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime for 2.4 million US$. Both are beautiful watches that feel more premium than the iPhone X.
