Or orders are not as strong as anticipated...
They clearly aren't, and after all why would they? It's a overpriced phone with outdated technology. The only truly innovative thing is A11, and it's available even in the considerably less expensive iPhone 8.

I think you see a lot of orders being cancelled because you can't turn a profit by putting it on eBay. After fees, you would basically break even which isn't worth the risk of fraud. Everybody anticipated a tight supply but either demand isn't that great or supply just isn't that tight.

Or people just aren’t in a rush to spend 999 and completely unwilling to pay a premium on a premium phone for a scalped unit

Well yes, and even more unwilling if the delivery estimates aren't that crazy. In the US, they never slipped past 5-6 weeks. Now if it were 12 weeks and they wanted it for the holidays, they'd be more willing to pay the scalpers.

What specific parts of the iPhone X are outdated?

Wonder if £1350 with AC+ or over £70/month is helping with supply issues in Europe ..... getting too greedy Tim

All the evidence says sales of iPhone X are off the charts. Apple, the carriers, the retailers, everyone.
What is the "evidence"? Apple doesn't give any sales numbers. "Off the charts"...hmmmmm....which direction? top or down ;-)

Not surprised at all. The price is absolutely obscene in Europe. I wonder how many people in the UK are buying it?

The average consumer/household is probably having trouble even paying mortgages, food, gas and electric bills etc. Simply not the same economic conditions compared to a few years ago.

Hoards of people are buying it. It’s a status symbol, the most sought after Apple product in a long, long time.

As reflected by the huge guidance for next quarter from Apple itself.

You‘ve got to be kidding me! I ordered 40 minutes after the preorders went live and I still have a delivery estimate of mid-december!!!
Which one?

I ordered a 256 Silver ATT - 3am pacific - original window was 12/10-12/18. About a week ago that improved to 12/1-12/8. Got informed it shipped today.

Exactly my thoughts! No wonder it would drop there faster. It's just very very very expensive. Especially, the 256GB version.
Outright, no question. But a lot of people get in on contract. For example, my 256 iPhone X cost me €453. Sold my 7 Plus (128) for €600. I actually profit. It makes no sense not to upgrade.

My X was originally set to be delivered on dec 1-5, and today Apple notified me that it will arrive Nov. 24!
I am hoping for something like this to happen with mine. Currently my status is

Delivers 01 Dec, 2017 - 08 Dec, 2017 by Standard Shipping

But I leave on the 5th or the early on the 6th for a three-week road trip. I'd sure like to have a new iPhone X with me on that trip.

No it will come w a SIM of the carrier version you buy.

For sim free when that comes out, will come without a sim of course -- hence sim free

What happened to the Apple SIM? Supposedly this is now the default in every wireless product that Apple sells (directly, at least). The idea is you won't need a carrier-specific SIM.

Possibly, though I am not sure. For the iPhone the equivalent might be the SIM-free model (not yet available). I guess if I go AT&T and buy outright it doesn't really matter.

I tried a sim-free 8 around when it came out and tried it for a weekend before returning it (deciding to wait and see if the X would be worth getting— it was for me), and it came with no sim at all.

Who let you buy and return? I ask because I need a phone for a few weeks until the X arrives. Talking to AT&T it seems all they can offer me is a prepaid. No idea what kind of phone that will be.

I just ordered on Nov 15. It claims ships 3-4 weeks, defining that windo as Dec 15-22, which I would identify as the 5th week. :-\ Oh well, hoping for good news like many of you have seen.
