PVD coatings can wear off...they've been used on watches...this is nothing new. Example below. Unless you know how to do PVD coating yourself, once it's scratched...you're screwed. No polish can fix it.

SPace Grey looks just like the previous Jet Black, just not as black....the silver looks like a much more special phone IMO. Looks new and sleek yet also a throwback to original iPhone. Cant wait!

To all the silver owners talking about the bands around the phone...

I’ll take the space gray anytime, silver is going to be a scratch nightmare with that SS mirror finish.

The joke's on you though - the silver band can be repolished to its original shine using Cape Cod wipes or other stainless polishing wipes. Doing this on the dark coating will likely rub the finish off.

Case in point: the Apple Watch. I've had a Series 0 stainless since launch day and every couple of months I take a Cape Cod wipe to it and it looks like it just came out of the box.

Bought a SG. Liked the silver too. Oh, there’s a notch. Everyone can have an opinion. Mine will get scratched. Oh but the notch.

MacRumours right now.

Here’s my Unboxing in space gray...
I’ll also post some pics on my Instagram tomorrow @ EMKWAN.

Looks amazing. Thanks. Wonder why they just don’t call it space black or jet black. I wish Apple would be more consistent with their colors.

Oh, it's beautiful! I love how the camera blends in. I like the silver also. I think Apple created two great choices. It's just a matter of opinion. I'm glad i got the SG though.

Hmm, now I'm debating if I should've ordered the Space Gray instead. Diggin the darker look and the darker sides, makes the phone look smaller and stealthier. Oh well, Silver is still quite pretty anyway. I'll give Silver a shot.

You guys sound ridiculous

I bought Black Bc I like black. I don’t like silver on phones or stainless steel.

I love stainless steel watches. Hate black watches.

And the notch looks exactly the same on both colors. You guys are trying to justify your color choice. It’s odd. Lol

Love the new live wallpapers seen in EmkwanTVs video, expect I don’t get why they have to be 3D touched in order to move. Would be cool if they just moved on the home and lock screen.

After watching the MKBHD unboxing, the new gestures to use the phone plus button combos seems a bit clunky. Power + volume up to switch the phone off because of Siri being remapped? No thanks.

People who bought the silver act like there is no notch at the top of their phone...lol

I’ll take it in Space Gray any day
Oh there’s a notch, but it will probably look slightly larger with a thicker black bezel around the edges vs the silver that will contrast.

I still think the space gray looks phenomenal though.

Here's another one. Yuck. For those of you who hate that notch? Man, it sticks out even more like a sore thumb on the space grey since it's more of a blended "seamless" design. Glad I went with the silver.

There is no spoo...errr, notch.

Notch will look identical when 90% of this forum put a case on it

Looks very stealthy and very black. Not sure why they even bother calling it space gray. I was worried based on all the pictures online, but this video makes it clear that it's pretty much jet black
That shade of black doesn't even look close to any of the photos I've seen online; even the images at Apple.com, it doesn't portray the space gray in that color black. I actually like it.

(EDIT). I see it much better as Space Gray in the first video above as the guy played around with it. It's the lighting in that photo that makes it look true black.

I agree the videos from today make it look much better than the pics from apple. Maybe they made the black look like S@#T online to try to even out demand for the two colors.

I think it’s very difficult to properly represent a glossy reflective black object in photos. It will only get definition from reflections, and they can’t exactly put random world chaotic reflections.

The silver looks better because each layer or separation in the design creates a focal point. It’s easier to see deliberate design elements highlighted in the silver.
