I love these changes, and embrace the notch. It’s brilliant, really. It gives you the ability to have those notifications and clock etc while simultaneously not eating into the full horizontal screen-only real estate below.

This is such a smart choice I can’t see how anyone is annoyed by it. You lose so much space on the Galaxy S8 etc because Samsung didn’t design theirs as well as Apple.

It seems like the haters here would prefer to have less screen size and have no notch, but the status bar below the sensors. Madness.
I want to know what space are Galaxy S8/Note8 users losing lol. We can use any app in full screen mode so no lost of space. The iPhone display may be 5.8 in but if those measurements include notch space which it seems like it does, you guys are losing screen space.

Measure from the corner of the ear diagonally and you guys only have around 5.5 to 5.6 inches of effective screen space.

I love it!

They just saved a lot of space just by removing the carrier name, and really - why did we need it up there all the time in the first place?
The only thing that bugs me is those huge headers in iOS 11 when we're scrolled up. I wonder how this will behave on iPhone X

Probably more a reference to the chin and forehead on that kind of design, rather than extending the screen as far up and down as you can.

This is absolutely terrible design. Let's hope it isn't the real deal..

I think it's good design. Design is sometimes making the best of a physical element that gets in the way. Besides, with this design Apple will be able to proclaim the new iPhone to be the very first multitouch smart phone with zero bezels. And technically they'll be correct.

A reference to a phone with a much better design than the ugly notch. The iPhone has bezels all around...at least Samsung actually can be considered edgeless on the left and right. There is no such thing as a chin and forehead when they are as small as they are on the S8. The real chin and forehead is on last year's iPhone models.

I agree, from a design standpoint, if you are going to make use of all available space, then make sure you do. Don’t leave a useless bezel along the top just to hide sensors and cameras, embrace the design and make use of the space around them.

One mans bread and all that. No-one is forcing anyone to like any design. We all have our preferences, I’m just all for making use of as much sensible space as possible.

Goodbye carrier name! Finally. As if I constantly need to be told what network I’m on… What a waste of space.

The carrier name is useful when wifi calling is enabled, let’s me know if I’m likely to loose the call when I step outside the house so I can prepare for it rather than hope that the call was on cellular when you loose wifi.

Does anyone know the size of the device difference between the 8, 8+, and the OLED? I have the 7+ and hate it hoping the OLED is closer to the non + models.

I love how the phone's status bar is split in two. Something different for Apple. But they did a fantastic job with it!!

The design is really appealing, applaud the removal of the carrier name.
The one thing I wish they changed regarding the leaked design is the camera hump. I wish it was flat as it was with the iPhone 4s.
I still consider the iPhone 4s the most beautiful iPhone they have made up till now.

I really hope they didn’t kill off the Bluetooth indicator. It is very helpful to me as I have multiple iOS devices and my airpods are not always connected to my phone so the headphone icon is a quick indication to me if it is connected to my airpods.

Why not make the status bar backgrounds black to match the notch?

This has confirmed that I don't want the iPhone 8, I can't ignore the notch. The UI elements look so out of place

Say the same thing on Tuesday then.

Excellent idea, as many mock-ups portray that as well. Hopefully it's an option!

Glad to see Apple are shifting the slider over slightly from form over to function.
