If i had iphone x , i would only upgrade due to one reason and that is night mode. All other upgrades mentioned are minimal for basic users, as iphone x is still fast enough for day to day usage.

I really appreciate these generational upgrade comparisons. Thanks JR and MR! Very useful. You could probably present this as a big matrix across multiple generations.

iPhone 1st gen early adopter and yearly upgrader for most years up until the X. I skipped that generation because I prefer larger screens. 7 plus and XS Max are daily drivers now.

Both phones holding up well under serious abuse (drops, wet/dusty/hot/cold environments) and lots of use. Battery still serviceable on both at +80% capacity. Audio quality for both earpiece and speaker reduced from dirt I assume. Camera focus slow and no longer very sharp.

Still, it’s impressive to me to have a consumer device last so long. Most electronics are simply garbage.

I was going to upgrade my X to a 14 Pro, but the tumor of a camera bump thats been floating around for the 14 Pro will now have me waiting for the 15 Pro. I already hate the minimal bump on my X and the insanity that is projected to be the 14 Pro is a total non-starter for me. All those flush camera rumors really got my hopes up.
It’s reasonable to assume that the modules will get even larger or stay constant in the 15 Pro though. Virtually no chance of the modules shrinking or looking flush

To those looking to upgrade to the 14 from a pre-11 iPhone, why not get the 13? I don’t think the 14 will be much different to the 13.

I have an X that got a new battery in 2020 and is running pretty well on iOS 16 beta.

When I replaced it, the tech tested it and said "FaceID does not work." I unlocked it with my face and he noted it down :D The battery is not bad but I will not replace it this calendar year as it's more than fine for what I want and need. I might see how the new phones go and I assume 14 Pro would be my size and spec.

But it would be good to be USB-C for charging because the iPad and MBA are..... one cable for all :)

I was going to hold out longer, ideally until the 15’s come out, but I just can’t deal with the glitches any longer, and they have been piling up since last summer… I have a dead pixel, the battery life has been getting increasingly worse over the last 6 months, and my camera is almost unusable - a software issue (diagnosed at the genius bar) with two options - buy a new phone or reset the phone every time the camera app stops working (which is almost any time I take a photo or video).
I’ve decided its time… will be upgrading my watch at the same time, so we’ll see what this new combo of tech brings to my life!

You guys always forget to mention RAM improvements. It’s a pretty major upgrade on its own.

Also would love to go Pro Max size if i do get the new iPhone this year. For me personally the X screen is too small for my hands/fingers.

That's actually a dilemma for me. My sight has become worse over the last 2-3 years and I often need glasses when I'm on my phone, so the bigger screen on the Max model would actually be practical for me ... but I feel it's just too big physically. Don't know what I'll do yet, though. We'll see in a couple of months :D

For me its more so the screen size being to small for my fingers hahaha and my battery now is down to 74% health wise.
