In order of importance:
  • Dual cameras in a smaller physical device
  • The best display ever shipped by Apple
  • More physical display area than similarly sized iPhone 8
  • Two hour longer battery life than similarly sized iPhone 8
  • 1GB RAM more than similarly sized iPhone 8 (3GB vs. 2GB)
  • Better telephoto camera (brighter, stabilized) than the 8 Plus
  • Face ID and related AR enhancements - can use with gloves and in the rain
  • Polished stainless steel band design reminds me of my original iPhone
  • Front camera supports portrait mode
Things I like that both have, in order of importance:
  • Improved cameras (larger sensor, deeper pixel wells, etc)
  • Wireless charging
  • Fast as hell CPU/GPU
  • Louder speakers (I particularly hope the top speaker is louder than my 7, which is drowned out by the bottom speaker and throws off the stereo effect somewhat)

I'm driving around in supercars and have a few houses in different countries.
I simply don't need to work any harder but if money wants to fall in my lap - i'll happily take it.

I can't stand people like you, why can't you think of others' feelings and desires who aren't as wealthy as you??

You are arguing against a pretty core pilar of capitalism. Thats how people get rich. They buy something for X and sell it for Y based on what people are willing to pay and how scarce it is. Are apple making money the honest way by charging crazy money for their phones in the sole pursuit of profit? Is the trader making millions a year making money the honest way?

Its a buyers choice as to whether they pay someone above face price for an item they want. They don't need it, its a luxury item and they could just wait. I don't necessarily agree with the practice but I don't really care if people do it. Takes 2 to tango and all that.

sure, but it's not fair to customers like me who want this more than a greedy iPhone scalper

I am ordering at midnight on day one, but i have to order through my carrier 'cause of my contract, and it makes it unfair for customers like me who will be outsold by customers who can buy at apple and receive theirs first before others

But you might get lucky and get right through and have your new phone on launch day. Which is exactly what I hope happens for you. We all want our phones as soon as we can get them. But know that there are many reasons that an opportunist may flip a phone. Heck, my wife gets a new iphone and uses 5% of the features. In some ways she is no better than the flipper.

You have a choice though. You chose to be in the contract, therefore have to order through them. Other choices could have allowed you to order otherwise.

How do you think business works?
Why are apple not pricing this phone at $199? Because they are willing to profit from peoples desires esp those that cant afford it with upgrade programs, that's "apple tax", that's capitalism, that's supply and demand. I repeat, blame apple, not the market. No one is forcing anyone to do anything.

Its easy, you don't NEED an X on day one, it won't kill you. No demand, no profit.

Ahhh, the under appreciated "Rocket logic" ;)

A question for you. If you get one at launch and decide that you don't get on with it for whatever reason, what would you do?

Return it to apple and get a refund

-- or --

Sell it for $2000

There is a disconnect on here as to what most people hate about flipping the phone and reselling. Most of us including me don't care about people needing to make the extra money someone is willing to pay. It's the thought of whatever percentage of ppl on here will miss out on the phones initial release and possibly have to wait for a 4 week delay bc they were 1 minute later to the preorder bc someone who doesn't want the phone itself purchases several, and got through the servers faster. I want one so I will buy one, could be someone we talk to on here all the time that loses out, I do not want to take that one away. Obviously some on here don't give a **** and will do it anyway, this is just my opinion.

We could also look at blaming apple who have clearly released the iPhone 8 to try and flog a dead horse one last time (lets hope they aren't selling an 8S but lets be honest, they will next year) before launching an overprices iPhone that should really be the one that is priced for all their customers. If apple had made more iPhone X's we might not be having this discussion.

Just a joke man...

I pre-ordered an 8, but honestly am second guessing my decision...

Here are my real thoughts... I've always gone with the smaller of the current offerings (6S vs Plus, etc), because I really don't want a huge phone. I still love the form factor of my old 5S, but the SE doesn't offer enough of the tech I want.

The 8 is really as big as I prefer to go, but in reality the X isn't "that" much bigger physically.

The dual camera is very appealing, plus being a tech / toy guy, right or wrong I do absolutely love having the "latest" gadget available.

FaceID feels like one of those things that once its out there will be highly adopted. I love the convenience of TouchID, but I'm sure FaceID will end up being just as good or better.

I could care less about the notch.

I guess the bottom line is that the screen and camera are really the 2 compelling reasons for "me" to be interested in the X vs the 8 that will be here Friday.

I also do believe that more will come of the facial recognition technology in the pretty near future, so there's also that.

if you're really buying this iPhone 'cause of talking crap, please don't ever breed

I have an iPhone 7, before that I had an iPhone 6 and 6 plus. The plus model is just too big for me. I have regular size hands but it's hard to reach across and have a device that size in my pockets. I saw how amazing the dual lens is and have been so jealous that it's not on the standard size iPhone.

I followed vlogs all year to see if Apple is releasing dual lens on the standard size and the closest is the iPhone x. I want this iPhone so much, it's unhealthy. I don't care for any other feature of the iPhone x othern than the dual lens and potrait mode. I don't care to use face id, I'll use passcode. I don't care to chat as a fox face. I won't even take advantage of wireless charging. I just want a small iPhone that has dual lens. It sucks 'cause I have to order through my carrier instead of Apple and I know it'll be January before I get mine even if I order at midnight. Some customers just want it 'cause it's new but I really really want this iPhone. iPhone scalpers are scum and ruin it for us true fans. Anyone else have a similar case?? Feel free to make fun of me, I know it's a silly desire.

I wanted this phone until it dawned on me that I consider the iPhone 8 (and thus the models 6-8) to be iconic and the last of its kind in terms of design. For that reason, I'll get the iPhone 8 because beautiful handsets with bezels are going to be a thing of the past and soon all phones will look absolutely identical. The iPhone X looks okay but the iPhone 8 looks extremely classy, yes, even with those outdated bezels.

For my daily driver, however, I'll get the LG V30. The wide-lense feature is crazy cool on the LG G6 (which I also own) and the V30 is a huge upgrade and - in my opinion - the BEST phone of 2017, even though it's not out yet. The reason being, it has the camera of the LG G6, an OLED screen, a good and pocketable size, AMAZING QUAD DAC! which is what completely sold me, and a aesthetically fantastic design. Oh, and it's IP68 to boot and has expandable storage. So, the iPhone 8+ and LG V30 will be my main companions until the iPhone X has matured, or rather its successor(s).

Difference: Apple put the effort to make the product. A person buying a phone is no effort and should not be rewarded with making a profit. It's the dark side of capitalism.

I'll love this iPhone, I am not returning it

The dual lens camera along with the Bokeh effect was the reason I upgraded to the iPhone 7 Plus last year (from a 6 Plus) and I don’t regret it.

The reason I’m upgrading to the iPhone X is for a number of reasons.

Better camera
4K footage films in 60fps now
OLED display with HDR
bezeless design

I like the look of Face ID much like I did with a Touch ID, I also like the design of the iPhone X, I know some people don’t like the notch but I don’t mind it. Overal I think the iPhone X is going to be a great upgrade.

I not afraid to admit it. I want the newest greatest things. And I like to show off too. iPhone 8 is way too similar in appearance, to a 3 year old 6, and trust me that’s what boils down too, the looks.

because i hate my current iPhone 6 on how slow it is. the 7 & 8 never wowed me and i think this new iPhone will give me that "new" and different iPhone. also a lot better camera and performance all around. can't wait.

Because...

I've already had the 6s Plus for the past two years, so I don't want to carry around a phone that is basically the same design for another two years.
I want a phone that is slightly smaller physically, but I don't want to lose screen size.
I want the new portrait modes in the cameras.
I like emojis and use them in texts, and I like the Animojis.

But I'm also not sure I want to deal with iOS for another two years, and I'm not sure I want a phone with a full glass back.

I'll be ordering to resell.

darn I'm afraid there's going to be a lot of this... which I don't have an issue with I don't knock the hustle its perfectly legal.... But it diminishes my chances of getting one for release date... I'll have to be on top of my clicking game at 3am on the 27th.

What about the supply chain?
They are all taking a cut including the network providers. By your logic, what effort did they put in to make a profit?

People selling phones are just an outlet. no more, no less.

This is no different than buying and reselling other goods -- look at Walmart, t-shirt companies, virtually every middle-man ever, etc.

As @AFEPPL said, people selling phones are just outlets. You have an in-demand good, and you have folks that are willing to buy and resell that good to you -- for a markup. It's the free market.

I'm not bagging on you. I totally get that. But this is the way that things have been for hundreds of years.

But maybe the people( stupid as they may be) willing to spend hundreds above the prices Apple asks would have been able to acquire one directly from Apple( or an authorized outlet by Apple such as Best Buy, etc) without these people who buy the phone for resale reducing the supply of an already supply constrained product.

Best Buy, Target, the network themselves, etc may be outlets, but they also have made efforts in some sort of fashion. Whether it is to market themselves, able to use the iPhone as a way to sell their own product( in the case of the networks), etc. They have an inherit risk to their monetary investments. As AFEPPL kindly stated, him buying the iPhone X carries zero risk. If he doesn't make the profit he wants, he simply returns it within the 14 days. Zero loss, all gain. That's the bad side of the free market. It may have been that way for years, it may be legal, but doesn't mean I have to like it. :)
