For 86 Grand there are too many stipulations no restoring the phone not using it not opening it up for that kind of money I will do as I wish with the phone

I wonder how much a wireless charging iPhone would sell for....

In all seriousness do we really need to change the port when the functionality is basically obsoleted with wireless charging and data transfer? This is seriously the most frivolous thing I've seen. Europe should push for wireless instead of producing waste.

I'd actually argue that wireless charging is the most frivolous thing I've seen. We waste a lot of energy just because we're too lazy to plug a cable into our phones.

Once you know that wireless charging only has just a fraction of the power efficiency of wired charging, every fibre in every decent human being should be screaming: We shouldn't be doing this. Unless of course you think it's cool to need twice the power to get the exact same result as before, a charged phone.

Wireless charging is inefficient compared to wired. Even with MagSafe your phone will charge slower, get hot, have to have a puck on the back of it while you use the phone. It also only works with your phone so you need to take another charger with you for other devices.

You also then have to produce propriety MagSafe pucks with processors and everything in them. Or you can use a simple USB-C cable you probably already have. I know which one is better for reducing e waste.

Who wouldn't want the ability to charge an iPhone from 2017 with a USB-C cable?

You can. 😉

Wish I had so much money to burn it on something like this. I understand if it was an authentic prototype from Apple. But a third party mod (impressive, but a mod). Wow
Neither is impressive since can't sync. Also display seems not original or elevated. This is crap sold for many moneys.

Winning doesn't mean much more than publicity. Getting the money is another thing. Could easily be a shill, a scammer, or someone who got it for novelty who will take pics and then return it as SNAD for a full refund. Ebay almost always sides with the buyer even when given clear evidence that the buyer is disingenuous.

Wireless charging is awful for the environment. We're a long way off from that becoming the standard.

Might have “sold” for $86k but I have no doubt in my mind he won’t ever see the money. Hijackings on newsworthy eBay listings is common.

I am guessing money wasn't just for the used iPhone. Who ever bought it probably going to reverse engineer and get the patent for it.

I don't see the point of Apple moving off Lightning for the iPhone. It's a cable. It charges the phone and if you connect it to your computer you can copy your music to the phone. I have not seen any article stating that an iPhone with a USB-C port would transfer 2x or 5x or 10x faster my music or somehow make my experience more magical. Yes, in the world outside Apple, in theory, and with the right equipment, USB-C *can* transfer a lot faster than USB 3.0...but you need the right cable, a fast enough drive on one end, a fast enough drive on the other end, and the computer hardware that actually supports USB 3.1x.

My gut says that 90% of the iPhone users out there use the cable only for charging...not transfering data. So what's the point in adopting a new cable (other than for adoption's sake)?
