86 Grand for a phone with a poor choice of a connector for a mobile device? Who can I give my money to?

I wonder how much a wireless charging iPhone would sell for....

In all seriousness do we really need to change the port when the functionality is basically obsoleted with wireless charging and data transfer? This is seriously the most frivolous thing I've seen. Europe should push for wireless instead of producing waste.
Wireless charger ALSO generate waste. Your phone don’t get power from overhead transmission line you know. Apple not adapting USB-C on iPhone looks more and more absurd the time goes on, and there is zero justification at this point.

Every app on the App Store is made by a dev that at some point has a phone plugged into their Mac to test it on. It technically works over wireless but its much slower and very unreliable.

I use Xcode daily and if they released a portless iPhone, I'd hold on to my current one for as long as possible for that reason alone.

Plus they have just released ProRes video and Airdrop isnt reliable enough to transfer 100s of GBs of video.

What an unbelievable waste of money… do people really think apple could not engineer a usb c port into the current iPhone??

It’s obviously a choice…
I think most people are joking about Apple buying it. To figure out how it's done. Given that the iPhone is still on Lightning and USB 2.0 when their other major lines have mostly transitioned to USB-C.

Personally, I don't care that much. All that bothers me is that Lightning is still stuck at USB 2.0. I really needs to be updated to USB 3.2 Gen 2 or USB 4.0. Because a 1TB transfer over 2.0 takes a long time.

Wireless charging is very slow, inefficient and the cheaper options are unreliable. While you can get cheap wireless chargers, they simply suck. Having 3 lightning cables is much cheaper than having 3 expensive wireless chargers (1 in car, 1 near bed, 1 in your backpack in case you run low on power). There are way more options for wired charging, it just works, it's much faster and cheaper.

As for wireless transfer: You can't really wirelessly sync iPhones as WiFi sync has been very unreliable ever since its introduction. So again to transfer data like syncing music from "iTunes", you have to use a cable.

So in practice wireless is not ready to replace wires.

Doesn't mean the bidder paid. With weird auctions like this, you always see crazy prices but frequently they're bid up by people using stolen cards or having no intention of paying.

USB-C is that thing that would be good if it came out before it was obsolete. Like how BlueRay would be been great, but it was competing with the internet. USB-C would have been great if it weren't competing with wireless. Its another almost great.

I don't follow the logic of buying an item like that for that kind of money!

Definitely an apple enthusiast!

That guy should start modding iPhone 13's real fast and put a usb-c port on that and flog it on eBay!

Wireless is great but it doesn’t replace USB-C everywhere. Wireless can’t charge your laptop at up to 240W, and can’t drive dual 8K displays!

I suspect it’s Apple that bought this to determine how he was able to do it. Or some rich Silicon tech who doesn’t know what to do with their billions in venture capital funding money.

2022 Sept - Apple releases iPhone 14 Pro Super Maxi King with USB-C for $86,000

Poor Souls!

iu
Which is equivalent to $1,200 in 2020 dollars, so really not as ridiculous as it sounds.

It amazes me that some people are suggest Apple would buy this to ”see how it’s done.”
I’m pretty sure Apple already has prototype iPhones with USB C. Hell they could probably switch their current production over to USB C with a phone call if that’s what they wanted to do.

The irony here is that wireless charging is incredibly wasteful because of how inefficient it is.

I had my 12 pro for 11 months. Never plugged it in once. Wireless/MagSafe charging only. For all I care the phone could be portless!
