Since Apple cannot change prices in real-time with the exchange rate, they build in a buffer to account for such fluctuations.

I know, I know, usual story with Apple. Just unfortunate that they like to hedge to such a degree.

Interestingly the $99 USD HomePod mini is $129 CAD (of course its a less expensive and likely much lower volume product compared to an iPhone).

What a shame for those who paid premium for the 11pro last year. Phone shouldn’t be discontinued so quickly, especially for that price tag. Oh Apple........
Note to self, don’t buy pro models since they become discontinued and hurt resale value.

You've been around long enough to know that is how the smartphone world rolls - Apple, Samsung, Google, Sony, LG.... Everyone has something new and "better" every year.

I used to upgrade every two years (on the new model launch) until iPhone Xs when I went on the Upgrade Plan so now I just get the new one every year for the same monthly price (so I will go 11 Max Pro to 12 Max Pro).

2 - 3 years seems like the new norm

I’m starting to get 90s Mac lineup vibes here

"Hi I'd like to purchase an iPhone"

"Sure, did you know which one of the 7 options you were after? Also, what color, and storage did you like? Oh, and you'll need to buy a charger unless you own a new Mac."

What you mean unless you own a new Mac?

1 USD is ~ 1.3 CAD right now, yet the 12 Pros are priced at a 1.4 exchange rate.

I know it is exchange. But Canadian not earning more than United States. In fact, GDP per captia is much lower than United States.

I don’t care if it is the exchange nor not, simply 1000 dollars phone is not so affordable. This is exactly why Apple would offer iPhone XR for much lower price point.

Why would I buy the iPhone 12 Pro with 128 GB for $999 instead of the iPhone 12 with 128 GB for $849?

That lidar seems like a really silly thing to pay $150 extra for.

If I were to bite, I'd probably go for the iPhone 11 or the iPhone 12 Pro Max, each with 128 GB...

Or maybe I'll just buy a used Pro Max for a much lower price in a few years, same as I bought a used 8+ last year.

Gotta decide if the stainless steel frame and improved additional camera lens + LiDAR are worth $150 to you...

Honestly I think they're smart to do this even beyond tradition. I think the 11 Pro would significantly cannibalize 12 sales. It's the last 5.8" with phenomenal battery life and the 18w charger included (though I guess they could've taken that out).

It's cringe to watch them do this, but at the end of the day, I get it. It just seems more than anything that they're competing with the used market post-release.
It's just the iPod model from before. Start with very few models, keep the message simple. Then once everyone understands what an iPod is, slowly start to expand the line until you've got one at various price points. I know I have an idea of what I want to spend, but if I have to choose between, say, a $399 SE and a $499 XR which seem quite different from each other, I would drive myself crazy trying to figure it out. I don't know that that's how most buyers are, though.

It's a NO brainer, the new mini @ $699 USD, & the reduced-Price 11 @ $599 USD, should both sell extremely well !

Both offer fairly good value !

Will wait on the first GeekBench reports to figure-out if trying-out the 12 mini for a year is a viable option.

DRAM is key !

My XR still works pretty well so I'm thinking I won't upgrade this year. There was really nothing in the Iphone 12 announcement I was too terribly excited about. I guess for me I would much rather have apple improve the overall user experience on the software side rather than hardware. Give me a better Apple Music experience or Apple TV experience (And lets have season 2 of Ted Lasso) and I will be happy.

It's crazy that the lineup has basically all the power you need at every price point. This'll rip a pretty big hole in the used market; the only things that'll be selling above $400 are models with storage. And even then is a used iPhone worth more than a new SE @399?
